Description
A curse looms over the town of Kesslar. A dark Shadow dwells beneath the eves of Wormwood forest spreading its taint throughout the surrounding countryside. Kesslar is a town in need of heroes and it just so happens that an unweary party is about to discover its dark secret. This module is for 4-6 new characters of 1st level. This module is part 1 of the 'Sins of the Father' series. The module uses bindtone and ring of recall scripts. 'Shadows of Undrentide' is not required . The module has no known issues. I would like to thank all the Scripters and module creators that provided their resources on the web for those of us delving into our first module. A special thanks goes to James Ponder for all his scripting assistance. Enjoy!

Avoid.

I agree with Pogos, Treasures and XP are indeed excessive.

Take that back about the vote timing, my vote isn't improving though.

Three votes of 10 within minutes of each other looks a bit suspicious for something of this 'quality'.

It was eerie to play this game and see the Arthur Miller headstone, after he just passed away the other day! How prescient! (I suppose it's not TOO difficult to predict the death of a person)

Well me and 2 others played this mod tonight and I would have to say I was totally disappointed. Some critisms below from what we found about the mod:

1) Magic items were _everywhere_, absolutely everywhere. We all ended up stocked up with magic weapons, armours, potions and all sorts of other things that we had to put absolutely no effort into getting.
2) You suggest 4 to 6 1st level characters, but we played through with 3 first level characters and minced everything we met with very little difficulty or effort. I'm not sure if you were using placed monsters, but if you were then you need to learn about encounters so that your mods give a party a challenge.
3) The plot was very weak, there was no indication that we had finished the mod and no real sense of achievement in doing anything. There were some good ideas, but nothing really led anywhere.
4) There was far too much xp available. After a few hours, ending with level 5 characters is just a little excessive for what we were doing, which wasn't much.
5) The level design was poor in general. There were floating shelves in the tavern, chests were facing into walls in a couple of the caves. Some of the terrain felt nice, but it was let down by a lack of anything feeling like it wasn't just randomly placed.
6) It was in fact more entertaining and challenging to just go nuts in the tavern and murder everyone in sight, after hunting through endless skeletons that posed no real threat.

I'll give you that it was humourous in places but it was a little out of place in a NWN game. I'm not counting this as a critism because it, in general, didn't affect the little gameplay that there was. However if you are going to put conversation options like 'I want some crack' in then at least make them do something.

I'd give it maybe a 2 out of 10 simply for the amusement in turning skeleton group after skeleton group with no effort. I was horribly dissapointed after reading the other reviews.

And I would have a registered account but I haven't recieved the confirmation email. I only registered because I felt something had to be said about this mod so that other people didn't end up downloading it and wasting a few hours as well. I don't like to sound harsh about someones effort but it really was terrible. I would have to say it is the worst mod I've played so far.

Great mod to play. Loved the undead. Kain was hell. No problem finding the locket. Just ran the whole map with tab on. Made 4th level. Can't wait to continue this character. Hurry up with the next mod already!!!

Very cool mod. Loved the creative construction of the grave yard and headstones. Spent lot's of time checking that out. Quests were straight forward for the most part, lots of great humor too, great job, and hope you post up some more!

Thank you for your comments. I'll try to avoid those mistakes on my second mod.

-spoiler ahead-

The locket can be found in the town on the hill by the fountain. Also the purpose of the old man and his hut will be come more clear later in the series. These mods are loosely based on my pnp campaign from the 80's.

thanks again

Must Agree with most of Alcarin's Comments. I too could not find the locket anywhere within the game so i Suspect a Bug, I took in a level 3 Fighter and had no major problems with any creature in the Mod. A good first Mod if the that is what it was but a few problems with dialogue, seeming to be in broken english now and again, also if playing single player as i did it is quite strange the player talking to team mates who are not there (Schizophenia maybe). But still good non the less, short and sweet adventures are much more fun I Think.

Hi! I finished this mod, this morning and I wanted to add my kudos for a good mod. :)

Minor Spoilers ahead!!

The storyline was good, though a little abrupt, perhaps. I liked the beginning quest to use just in case you feel you might need a level before venturing further. Although I will admit that I didn't understand the point behind the old man's hut and his remarks, much less the dialogue options for my character basically saying he was a looney and let's beat feet.

The only quest I couldn't finish was Dalia's locket quest. I couldn't find it *anywhere* in the forest -- either sections. I thought maybe one of the wights or the Shadow Fiend would drop it, but no go. I scoured the forest, even checking *every* skeletal remain I could find and still couldn't come up with it. Nor was it in either tomb I explored.

I took in a solo fifth level cleric -- I know it was a bit higher than you recommended -- and I found that the fights were pretty easy. I didn't have any really exceptional magical items when I came into the module, but I did gain two levels, even so. I imagine if I opted for a third level cleric, it would have been more challenging.

In any event... it's a very good effort and enjoyed it. I look forward to the next one. :)
