It's a real shame this never got finished. It would have been my favorite NWN modual/campaign if it had. Loved the dialog, liked the direction and the music (even though not included in the demo) was perfect. Makes me want to do something just like it, only I can't make music and would have to do all the voiceing by myself, but that might be fun.

Ah well, I can still hope it gets done.

Wow! Amazing game, Stefan!
Umm... could you do us all a favor by finishing it?
I mean, I'd be happy to help in any way I can, but I so badly want to see this finished!
Scripts, voices, levels, ideas in general! I'll do anything!

Unlockable charectors will no doubt be handled the same way he did the unlockable desktop pictures in the PR series: Locked zip files, and give out the correct password at the end of the game.

Very entertaining and unique module. Im wondering how you're gonna pull off "unlockable" characters.

I had the same bug listed below with the barrels and Tofu, nameley, if you attack the barrels, Tofu runs forward. Perhaps an on spawn Paralyze on Tofu and having the cutscene remove it will fix this, or possibly simple faction editing.

Was amused with the special attacks.

Also can't wait to see what other characters will be available.

Stefan, please tell us if there will be a full beta version of this mod. TIA

I have a few things to post:
1)I was cracking up before I even started the story mode and it just got better from ther, great job again Mr. Gagnes.
2)I noticed a small but irritating bug on with Tofu, I was testin easy mode and instead of directly going to his tent I first bashed the barrels in the ruins. This caused Tofu to run over to me and stand there without doing anything or going hostile. Of course my next instinct was to attack him anyways, I did and he went hostile, however, he was still marked as plot so I could not damage him. I ran towards the tent which froze me in place for the conversation, unfortunately, he continued attacking me. This is no big deal on easy, but I would hate for it to happen on hard.

Can't do it; the codebase has progressed since the demo and I can't 'regress' back to a demo level of content without really messing things up.

Posted by Selric ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-09-23 22:29:00
Could you at least release an updated demo containing the first level with the voice acting in it? or at lease the first level with that burning peasent village song in. It would just make things so much more entertaining while I wait for the whole thing.

A bit of an update: This is looking more like a winter 2k3 release. I'm busy with Elegia Eternum 2, and I'm missing some key art and sound resources I need to finish Fist of Discomfort. Bioware's 1.30 upgrade also threw me for a loop. :P Pardon the delays.

Amazing! Simply amazing what you have done with the NWN engine. The arcade action mixed with the roleplay options makes for a extreamly fun module. Could this still have a glimpse of hope to see the end of summer 2003?

wowza

i didn't even know that this was possible with nwn, and i'm a bit of a programmer geek :)

well, i played with all the characters, and so far pao-pao seems the strongest (but i think i played on medium with her and hard with the other two).

aaaaaanyway... just a quick question. how did you make the characters what they are (pao-pao with luck - which is a halfling trait - etc)??? i've always wanted to do something like that for my mod. and if u don't want to post it here, email me.

after the penultima series i was afraid that that was going to be the last of you. (you are by far the best nwn modder - apart from adam miller, "dreamcatcher", who i consider is on equal footing with you). thank god you didn't leave all your fans in the cold...

sorry if i yapped on. i tend to do that in posts...

In the peasant villiage, one of the goblins escaped past the barrier to the next section. I couldn't chase after it, so I couldn't kill all the enemies and was stuck in that area.

Posted by Bacchus ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-06-02 20:34:00
Perhaps the 1000 swords should be immune to mind spells. The practice ninjas stunned them with their stunning fist, and that seems odd.

Posted by Stefan Gagne ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-31 23:36:00
Ahh, crud. Yeah, ZeoX, that's a bug. Bjorn, everybody, make sure you download the 0.93b version I just posted instead of playing 0.92b. Fixes that error, which happens if you have a summoned kaiju / 1000 sword / multiplayer partner with you.

Posted by Bjorn Stronghertim ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-31 16:50:00
Alright! The new version is up! Anybody who wants to playtest this online with me, e-mail me.

Posted by ZeoX ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-31 11:37:00
Damn it Stefan, you did it again :]

I'm cracking myself out laughing with this mod, it's becoming a true masterpiece! Just some bugs I bumped into... when I begin the 'Story Mode' cutscene, that dialog, if I don't press the 'continue' once it ends, the dialog box will close and I'll have to restart the dialog over again. And... the last boss, Tofu, has a double... which is friendly and marked as plot character. Hum... is it ment to be there? :]

BTW... was pao-pao inspired in 'Dead or Alive' fighting game? eh eh eh...

Keep up the awesome work!

Okay, v0.92 is now up! I wanted to add in the PvP but I don't think I should before testing it and coding up some bonus-item respawn points and things. The AI also might need more tweaking. BUT, here's what you get in this update:

* Snipers and mages have better AI, and will flee from you!
* LEVEL 2a, the Risky Forest of Risk! Go north after the bonus stage to see it!
* You can't instakill Sneer anymore with Hideo's ultimate attack. Sowwy.
* Sensei won't attack you, even if you stab him.
* Attacks will work on ANY hostile target... setting the stage for future PvP :)
* Ranking indicator / return to main menu functionality at the end of each stage
* Cutscene start jumps all players to scene locale in multiplayer. Haven't fully tested this.
* More HP for Sneer based on difficulty
* You can't go into training ninja overload
* You can't summon more than one set of 1000 Sword Strikes
* 1000 Sword Strike only lasts 75 seconds! Beware.

Okay, if I can pry myself away from WarioWare Inc. long enough, I'll have the new version out tonight (at the latest, this weekend). It'll have the new level and better multiplayer support, maybe some preliminary PvP.

Posted by Bjorn Stronghertim ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-28 07:07:00
ok, since the newest patch is gonna have a 2nd level, we should wait to play online till then.

Posted by Rowf Alonbark ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-27 21:07:00
I do agree with you Gagne, I was just thinking that in fighting games it seems like all bosses seem to have a quirk even if it's only a little time to add that l'il extra bit of hell to the players lives. Perhaps he just needs more HP or maybe something like a knockdown or a triple-speed-attack kinda thing might come in handy, nothing special but something to just make him look like a boss rather than a run of the mill enemy. Yanno?

Anyways, I'm glad to hear you've got special things planned for the later bosses and all and I'm really looking forward to this. I can't help but think I've made too many criticisms and suggestions too far though but mebbe that's 'cause I think that my respect for all things Gagne is too obvious anyways. If it's not, go Gagne! There's nothin' else out there like Fist of Discomfort and I really can't wait to play that next level - or whatever the heck you manage to do next with the NWN engine.

Posted by Stefan Gagne ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-27 17:56:00
I'm saving teleportation for a later boss. :) Bosses have gimmicks and patterns in FoD, I just figured the first boss should be straightforward. But he could use a few more HP.

As noted, working on an updated release which WILL include a new level. Stay tuned. And try it multiplayer, it's a blast!

Posted by Egarthen ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-27 16:59:00
Sure. I'd be more than interested. Just shoot me an e-mail sometime and we'll work it out.

Posted by Rowf Alonbark ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-27 15:53:00
I certainly would be Bjorn. Any chance I get to kick around in something of Gagne's.

As for Sneer, I found that his power level was right but that his 'balance' was off. He'd just stand there smacking me. So I have an idea; Why not give him a special move? The Hammer brothers in Golden Axe had Hammers andsoforth, there've been lots of bosses with unicque aspects, remember the Boomerang guys in Streets of Rage? So that's what I think. I think maybe a teleport spell would be good for him, to allow him to randomly disappear from one side of the player to the other, so he could launch an attack on their back. I think that'd make him considerably harder. Some kind of Teleport-Punch thing.

Just an idea though.

Posted by Bjorn Stronghertim ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-27 12:49:00
so, is anybody up for a multiplayer game with me? How about you Egarthen?

Posted by Stefan Gagne ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-26 21:46:00
I think it's too late to add a morph-based character, but maybe for FoD2. :) I also want a steam-powered mecha suit in FoD2... but that's for later. MUCH. LATER.

I'll be working on a revision soon to limit the number of training ninjas and 1000 Swords you can summon... and maybe it'll have Level 2 of the game, since I made great progress with that.

I tested it multiplayer last night and DAMN THAT WAS FUN. If you have the chance, I highly recommend it. A three person party with a balance of classes works best, on hard difficulty.

Posted by Egarthen ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-26 21:39:00
Turning into dragons would just be silly in a brawler.

And 2F, the alternate weapons thing sounds great. 'Cause I know that with Jake and Pao-Pao, I never even touched their distance weapons. I'd use Hideo's, though, while fleeing.

Posted by Psycofungus ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-05-26 19:44:00
VERY cool. I think it would be uber cool though if one of the other characters could turn into a big, red, firebreathing dragon of death as a special ability or it could be different type of dragon but as long as its a dragon its cool.
