Thank you so much again for all this epic serie which is the most enjoyable I have played with "Dance with the rogues".
I was just not lucky after the fight with Abbadon at my first try.
The Archangel could not reborn for no good reason.

Oups ! The former is wrong !
int StartingConditional()
object oPC = GetPCSpeaker();
object oHench;
string sHench = " " ;
int j = 1;
int k = GetMaxHenchmen() + 1;

while (j < k)
{oHench = GetHenchman(oPC,j);
sHench = GetTag(oHench);
if (!GetIsObjectValid(oHench) || sHench == "BLACK") break;
if (sHench == "BLACK" && GetDistanceBetween(oPC,oHench) < 15.0) return TRUE;
return FALSE;

// // Hector is in sight
// object oHector = GetLocalObject(GetModule(),"black");
// return GetObjectSeen(oHector);

I add an adaptation of the GetIsHenchman for Robert Black.

int StartingConditional()
object oPC = GetPCSpeaker();
object oHench;
string sHench = " " ;
int j = 1;
int k = GetMaxHenchmen() + 1;

while (j < k)
{oHench = GetHenchman(oPC,j);
sHench = GetTag(oHench);
if (!GetIsObjectValid(oHench) || sHench == "BLACK") break;
if (j < k && GetDistanceBetween(oPC,oHench) < 15.0) return TRUE;
return FALSE;

// // Hector is in sight
// object oHector = GetLocalObject(GetModule(),"black");
// return GetObjectSeen(oHector);

A fantastic module. Thank you so much.
One regret : It is too easy to be stuck in the Archeron because the "label_failsafe(n) are not launched by the appropriate triggger if the henchchman is not the first of the list (or has the rapidity). Note this triggers are in other area too and I don't understand the sense of that to check if someone is in sight! It is so difficult to use the GetIsHenchman and either check the distance or GetIsObjectSeen now, instead of too much sophisticated "label_failsafe" not safe at all odds 1/3. Perhaps have you met a problem with this code ?
I may be unlucky !

When I first played through this series, I think the third act had not been finished. So the past week I have been playing it again, since I find myself bored with new RPGs such as Skyrim that, although beautiful, don't possess the storytelling and character development (and overall awesomeness) that an epic series such as The Aielund Saga does.

Quite fun. Finished it with my PC at level 37 as expected. Lawful Evil, dual kama Monk/Fighter/WM(7). I enjoyed the many choices throughout all the acts, though there was less in this one when I kind of wanted to be good (It had NOTHING to do with the Amulet of Life, haha). I only ran into one problem, and that was with Nellise's Ascendance hide - it didn't seem to equip and ended up in her inventory. That's okay though, she still kicked ass and the visual effect was there. Could have made a lot of money out of this (after a polishing of the spelling errors and... "its" not "it's" in most instances!), as I'm sure others have pointed out, this is a large improvement on the OC and most other mods.

The finale before the credits was great, that needs to happen more often with stories/games -- but that's another awesome thing about this saga, how all the companions were weaved so well into the storyline.

Incredibly keen to experiences the differences as a female and a good aligned character, regarding the plot with Criosa.

Environment wise, Hell and Twilight were both amazing. Hell just felt cool. Twilight made me think it was some amazing mix of sci-fi environments - Stargate, Dr. Who (Well the Hall...) and steam(or post-nuclear/apocalyptic)-punk. I would have actually loved a module that showed all the events that happened on Twilight, especially when they were a high-end civilisation. I'll finish ranting now... time for finishing that first book now that I've finally completed this saga. Thanks Savant!

Argh! >.< I killed the drunk noble and saved the game after I killed the wizardess...and after long searching I decide to check here for answers *sigh* is there any way to respawn the noble or do I have to restart the module? Also why couldn't Savant just make him green instead of neutral!? This sucks.

I was feeling nostalgic, and I'm wanting to play this classic adventure again. It's better written, and more fun, than just about any of Bioware's official content.

I got really frustrated by the unusually high difficulty of the final act the last time I played. I was so emotionally invested in the series, my frustration led me to make some very negative comments, both here and in the old NWN forums.

Having done that is one of the biggest regrets of my life. Seriously. I am so ashamed that I ever disrespected this masterwork and its esteemed authors in some of my past posts, that words can't express the depth of my regret.

The Aielund series is one of the best, most immersive roleplaying experiences ever created. The love of the co-authors for the game of D&D and for high fantasy shines through every act. I can't recommend this module series highly enough.

...Okaaaaay. I ended up finding out what I was doing wrong, so no need for that emergency help anymore. Turns out that in my frantic haste, I saw the nearly transporter and assumed, 'OH MUST USE IT NOW, HURRY!' and... yeah. Wasn't done on that level!

My boyfriend, fortunately, (who has never played the game, mind you) kept on stressing to me that I must have missed something, and made me---in spite of my sad frustration---go back down, and check with those last two minutes. He was right. (He's always right.) What would I do without the gaming men in my life?

Thanks, anyway. I'm just a derp!

Okay, I have grown desperate! I'm at the final part, in the citadel, up on the command deck ...with a whole two minutes remaining, from the time I arrive there. I figured, well, I'm sure I can make it, but ...well, I was surprised to learn that not only were there a great number of fights still waiting for me, but---most frustrating of all, really---the game doesn't allow you to interact with things while in combat (and makes you even wait until combat officially "ends" ...which takes too much precious time!)

Needless to say, I quickly learned that two minutes was not enough time.

Now, I'd had a previous save, but---to add another bruise---I found that it'd somehow been corrupted, and I can't load it without the game crashing. So I've been trying -desperately- to win with those two minutes ...up to and including wildly cheating, but I always fall short.

I've played---and HEAVILY---enjoyed this entire game, and now I'm committed. I don't care if I have to cheat to make it work, I -have- to see the ending after all this! I even peeked in the toolset for the timer variable, to see if I couldn't restart the timer, but I can't make heads or tails of it.

With that said ...IS it possible to restart the timer via Debug? Please someone tell me there is ...I must have this ending, but the thought of restarting from scratch makes me weep! Thanks, either way!

An Absolutely epic series, that is a must play, and eventually replay.

Loved the polish and balance, however the story haven't really grabbed me. Perhaps I am spoiled by the kinds of stories you get in Grim Fandango or TLJ, I don't know. The series however is really solid and well worth the time spent.
Do dance with the rogues.

Yes, it's updated for 1.69.

Try having Robert leave your party and rejoin.

I seem to be unable to level up Robert Black past 29. When I select the option in his conversation window for him to level up it says "missing blueprint for black31." Is this intentional or is something missing from my version of the module?

Just finished all the modules, and I must say I realize why people say this is better than the OC. I agree. Sure it has a few flaws like every other module here, but it's an epic series of modules both in story and in gameplay. Great work.

Hi Savant:

Looking to play your series again, perhaps in a few months (started many years ago, but never finished due to real life and some glitches with the modules). Can you advise if you updated all your modules in this series to ver 1.69? Thanks.

The romances break if you use the horses (the engine just can't handle them imo). This is something I want to correct one day, by removing horses altogether.

There will be spoilers, you are forewarned.

Finished this module series recently. It was good enough to get me addicted and actually want to press forward - which is a good thing. In order of preference:

Act 4 pt 2, 4 pt 3, 4 pt 1, 3, 2, 1.

I was almost turned off by the huge (If temporary) difficulty spike Act 4 pt three presents. From entering the Hall of Worlds until whenever you beat the first 'epic equipment' area is a hell. Literally, in my case, as my Paladin/PDK/Champion stormed Hell first. Going in wasn't bad. Getting out was Hell. But after that the difficulty settled down a lot and I was satisfied.

A few nitpicks that just nag on me with a module of this scope. At the finale video it said Dante 'lived happily with Mona' and the like. When I remember for a fact I both killed and stripped both of them at Bracksworth. Minor plot hole, could probably be easily glossed over with a 'they got rezzed' deal. :P

I also can't help but think my Criosa romance got broken, if you even put that option in to follow through into Act 4. I recall that in 3 she specifically told the King she loved me. Again, no big deal in the long run, but made some continuity errors.

And, finally, it would've been great to give the SPACE MIND FLAYERS some characterization. Even a conversation with the Commander at the end explaining beliefs and goals would have done a lot to help there character.

Aside from those, a spot on series of modules. Something I'll definitely replay in the future.

I finished your wonderful saga: the best elements of NWN are present, the four modules are exceptional. Honors.

I do want to use it. I like it, it fixes a lot of stuff, and I've installed it and it's working fine.
Problem is, when I'm updating my dialog.tlk file, the readme for EMS isn't very good.
So, to restate my question, does anyone know what Tenser's actually does?
(Plus if anyone can tell me how to fix the Greater BS/CG etc. functioning just like the standard BS/CG etc.)

Posted by Savant at 2011-03-10 21:36:39
Well, you just drop the EMS.hak file into your hak directory. If you don't want to use the EMS, I think there's a fake version that comes with it (if not in this version, than one downloadable from the EMS page). I can't guarentee that one will allow you to use horses, but that's actually a good thing as they do break a lot of scripts in the mods.

Oh, and you'll need to go to comment page 1 if you're not logged in. (Gah; triple post :P)

(By which I mean, not how to use it, but some other stuff to do with it. See the link, look at my comment.)

Posted by Savant at 2011-03-03 23:27:55
Oh and yes, I want to go through it after I finish moving house and squash some more bugs. I'll be removing the horses too, they account for a lot of bugs just by themselves unfortunately. Completely ruins the romance dialogs in act 3 :(

Posted by Savant at 2011-03-03 23:26:30
I have a friend editing my novel at the moment, and he gave me an education on the proper use of "Its" and "It's" just this week :D
Next; figuring out exactly how "Whom" works :P

SORRY FOR POSTING A LENGTHY REVIEW HERE and hogging up all this space. If it's inappropriate or "bad form" or whatever, let the moderators do their thing.

OK, I have finished the saga. More! More! I want more!

Moving on into review mode:

Act I -- 9/10
Act II -- 10/10
Act III -- 10/10
Act IV pt 1 -- 10/10
Act IV pt 2 -- 10/10
Act IV pt 3 -- 10/10

The 10's don't mean it's truly perfect (what video game actually is?). But it clearly offers more compelling and memorable game play than the original NWN -- far better than the insipid and unchallenging sequel NWN2 -- and this seems quite a bit longer than the NWN1 campaign and expansions, taking you well into the epic levels at 31+ levels.

One of the best RPG experiences I've had in quite a while. There's some real magic here.

Replay value -- I can easily see myself firing up a new character and playing through this all over again.

Covers a lot of ground. Nearly all classes will have strengths and weaknesses tested. Good variety of monsters from undead to construct. Plenty of traps and dialogue checks.

Writing is quite good. Storyline works well. Dialogue is crisp and genuinely humorous -- hilarious at times. A humorous flair throughout the narrative and even in some of the descriptions. Story is complex enough to hold your interest, but also obvious enough not to require too much concentration. I was impressed by all of this. (And we'll forgive the multiple occurrences where the contraction "it's" is used instead of the appropriate "its" for the possessive function. But I kvetch....)

NPC's are, for the most part, memorable and interesting. My favorite was probably RB, didn't see that one coming. Could have used maybe one more NPC class choice in each act, a monk or a bard maybe, but being as the ones who were available tended to be fairly well developed personalities and each useful in their own way, it's a minor complaint. (Also, the halfling Druid looks like she could fit in my belt-pouch, but I guess that's a "problem" with all of the halfling models in NWN, just too darned small.)

The 9 for Act I (instead of a 10) is because the first couple levels were dull and a bit lackluster -- to the point of being incongruous with the rest of the saga. You can see my initial reaction way back when, where I first posted on the comments page for Act I (One) just after starting to play. Didn't like the "mayor is being blackmailed" quest, didn't like the hostile wildlife (non-supernatural wolves continually attacking my armed party on that one road near the starting town), glad that the hostile wildlife got scaled back almost entirely after the first act.

The assortment of equipment utilizing the additional models is fantastic (I assume a lot of it is CEP and community-related). Some of the armor and weapons are eye-wateringly cool. The community would do well to make some upgrades to the weapon VFX (is it possible?) to match some of the excellent add-on models. For instance, the length of that realistic flamberge and of the new katana blades need accommodating where fire, acid, electricity, sonic, and cold VFX are concerned.

As for BUGS, I noticed just a few, I came across nothing game-breaking. One of the foremost ones that comes to mind, is that after Act III the phenotype resets to zero going forward to each successive module. For example, if you're playing as the large-type human character model (phenotype 2) you will notice that at the beginning of each successive module you're now represented by the thin character model (phenotype 0). It also occurs in the transition from the Archeron (sp?) portal going forward to the end game inside the devourers' ship. THIS CAN BE REPAIRED BY USING LETO ON YOUR SAVED GAME, just set the phenotype value back to 2, if you want. (I like using the larger character model because armor tends to look more resplendent and formidable.)

Another (very minor) bug that I remember is there's a staff (Staff of Healing?) -- I think it shows up around Act III, one of the places you can buy it is the monastery near the dragon roadblock. It gives a bonus feat "bad strref" which is a bad string-reference; in the toolset the device shows "bonus feat" but there's no stipulation; that property simply needs to be removed.

Minor bugs, just thought I'd mention them in case Savant wants to add to his buglist. Many people are still playing NWN, and this saga is classic and well worth a run-through or two.

All in all, just an excellent series of modules, fast-paced and addictive, with some very challenging battles (and plenty of them) including some very climactic fights at the end of each act. Epic in scope.
