Not worth it.

This idea (converting the movie in a module) is so poorly implemented that one would have to scrap this and start over. First, I really like Ridley Scott ("Blade Runner" is a masterpiece and "Kingdom of Jerusalem" is not too bad) but he did not do a good job mixing "Spartacus" and "The fall of the Roman empire" to create "Gladiator". Say what you want but a roman emperor fighting in the arena is quite far fetched. Anyway, they are some good (rare) elements in the movie that could have been used for some interesting action oriented module. First we have a "great battle". Visually it was pretty cool, but I can assure you that the Romans would have lost if they had tried that for real. We have a number of modules with large battles implemented. Here we could really have catapult firing, archers shooting, legion marching forward, a barbarian horde and the best of all a charge of cavalry. None of this is present in this module. Another part of the movie that was enjoyable was the action in the various arenas. Perhaps the author wanted to include that but it is missing from this "prelude". I believe the movie was not accurate either when it comes to roman soldiers or gladiators (retiarus, thracians, secutors, samnites or myrmidons had mixed up equipment). Again, here the author could have used some content on the vault and give us more realistic roman soldiers (e.g. armors, shields, helmets).

So we got some cutscenes not that good IMHO, spelling errors (in both English and Latin), console-game-type combats (you fight alone a bunch of barbarians with their illegal feats and tons of healing potions). Eventually you kill one bad guy, collect his two heads (go figure), go back to camp and get stuck in a watchtower forever.

1-2: The module author did not take the time to fully test or check the module.

@Blink_Boy_182 (Wulfgar) - As requested by you I added this module to our Review Pending List. However I'm afraid to say that I have also had to remove it, much for the same reasons we did so back in 2007.

While I can see that you have made a great effort with this module, it is far too buggy still to be eligible for an official review. It is not our policy to BETA test or bug test modules, and it would not be fair to you or one of our reviewers to review this module in its current state.

You've got a good idea here, and I hope you keep working on this module to improve it. I also strongly suggest that you test your module at regular intervals after you have scripted/added to it. You could even advertise via the Vaults community news "Help wanted" section for players to bug test the module if you find it too much yourself.

Again, I'm sorry to have to remove this from our review list, but I hope you find the inspiration to continue improving this work :)

Great Lord Lestat, and how are you? Im working on the module as we speak, and you seem like a good builder..:)
Ive added Cep and some new intro areas used for cutscenes and the gladiator theme musicsome new ambient scripts learned. and alot more dynamics added to the module..:) But still too much for me to write Good converstions, and journals, and etc.etc.. so let me know when you can k? =)

Hi how are you. I am going to look at this and if I think its worth working on I very well might be interested. Though I am currently working on 3+ modules to be hosted on the same server and have our own web site and have just today posted the hak package I will be using. But I may be up to working something out.

yea. i didnt really test it before i loaded it...
its been some years ago i made it.. and i just found it on a cd. so i figured id upload it..
but ill take a look at it.. the module is supposed to work:)
the broken wagons are supposed to disappear.. etc..
i will install nwn again and fix it..

A note to the author (Sorry, you have no e-mail address on your Vault profile).

This is an unplayable module, and I had to use the DM console to move around. You have the first bridge door which requires a DC 99 to open, and bashing it is pointless as you have given the door a Will/Reflex & Fortitude save of 250. Added to that the door has a HP of 999 and a Hardiness of 250. The 3 hostile NPCs at the start location are placed, and so the PC is jumped upon as soon as they enter the module, none of these enemies drop a key to the bridge door. As has been mentioned, if the PC walks towards the camp they cross a trigger and are ported into a room with two NPCs named "Son" & "Daughter". The cutscene needs work, and there is no way out of the room. Both NPCs use a male voice set.

The area called "Outside of lair" has the PC entering the area trapped behind a pile of broken wagons. All are plot, and the one wagon that can be clicked on/ smashed, is also plot. You have a script attached to this placeable that does not appear to do anything. Journal entries are dismal and so one has no real idea of what is going on.

On the up side, your areas are small and while needing work, there does appear to be some atmospheric parts. Most importantly as a builder, novice or not, you need to actually test your own work by jumping in game and trying to play. As it stands, this modules needs a lot of work, but I do see some merit to the idea behind it and would encourage the author to read up on a few of the Bioware tutorials to help him along.

Hi. I think you need to do a little more work before asking people to download this and leave comments.

I tried playing twice with a L15 fighter. The initial fight was way too easy. Then there are no journal entries so you've no idea what to do :) I tried bashing down the door but it was taking forever so I went back to the camp. Here I was randomly teleported to a sort of cutscene. It didn't quite fire right since the camera wasn't looking in the correct direction but I heard daughter say 'good'. Then I was stuck in a room. Both daughter and son had male voices. Eventually the conversation (randomly) fired up again, with Son saying 'Hi daughter, let's go and see father what do you think of that' and Daughter replying 'good'. It's slightly odd for the son to refer to his sister [presumably] as 'daughter'. Then I was stuck.

On the plus side, your first area is ok to look at but really nothing too special :)

So, more work for you to do and I can't recommend anyone else downloads this!
