Description
After drinking yourself to oblivion the previous evening, you wake up in a ditch outside the fence of an unrecognized village early the following morning with a hangover that features a headache for the ages. The bright morning sun burrows into your brain with an insistence that makes you wish you were dead. You have no idea where you are or how you got there. Time to find out... But beware! This town is not as peaceful as it seems from the outside. Many dangers await!

I'm sorry - I didn't like it. The plot was rather simplistc, and the fights were impossibly hard.

Short module, with basic design, which provided 3-4 hours of fun to level my PC from F5/Rogue9 to F5/Rogue10. NPCs dialog would need additional work to avoid loops and correct a few typos. Encounters and treasures unlikely for such a small village.

I really enjoyed this module. I found the storyline entertaining.
I liked this mod the first time I played it. However recently I tried it again a few times and found it rather unplayable with anything but a solid "tank".
If this module is vaguely based on a Post OC type of character it should really be playable with any of the basic class.
* Minor Spoilers *
1. They are two vampire warriors taking a walk in the graveyard. Funny they do ignore the guards and vice versa. Yet they are really hard to defeat. Well once you get in a nearby area you can have 4 if not 6 of them all at once. Ouch!
2. When I got into one of the area, I had a bunch of "animals" right on top of my character and familair right away. They were too close to cast any spell, had something like true sight (or at least it felt that way) and worse, it is impossible to get out from the way you came.

This is a fun module. Parts of the plot were a little silly (I'm an old man, could you go through the huge spiral dungeon in my basement filled with undead and hordes of gigantic spiders to get me a chunk of firewood?), but it was well done overall and not too incredible. There was a little more treasure than seemed reasonable, but there is at least one big-ticket item that might require the substantial amount of gold to be gotten.
Anyway, I had fun. Thanks!

To answer my own question: the background story does make a reference to the hero of Neverwinter, but the one, single, small reference isn't essential at all. That the character is coming from Neverwinter and wanting to go back becomes clear on several occasions. But that, and my PCs being a hero with some great stories to tell about his adventures, was enough to make the background story perfectly fitting - putting aside one sentence or so, in which the particular events from the OC were referred to.
I leveled from 14 to 15. The module was quite easy for my bard/RDD.
There isn't much to add to previous comments. One thing worth mentioning is that the journal notes work better with some chaotic or evil character. This is hack & slash with a slightly nutty story. But it was an okay gaming experience all in all. There still aren't that many adventurers for around level 15 characters available. So, this may still be worth giving a try.

The story seems to assume that the PC is from Neverwinter. That's fine. I've got a character who's actually coming from there (after finishing the Crypt of Riddles modules). But he's not the "Hero of Neverwinter" from the OC. When the PC starts to remember some stuff a bit better, will it become obvious that he is, indeed, the chap from the OC? Well, I guess it won't take too long to find out... But in case someone sees this, I'd really appreciate a response! : )

I'm not sure why this mod had been so harshly judged but I absolutly loved this quick, humorous and well thought out mod. There are mods in the top fifty that don't have a fraction of the creativity and humor of this one. Rock on Dave, you have talent.

why was this mod so harshly judged? Great fun mod with no bugs. What else can you ask for?

A little weird. I thought the clerics casting implosion in groups was tough, but fighting a dragon at the end seemed appropriate for a level 20 character. _________________________ Steve's Characters - please don't forget to vote on them if you play them.

Not bad at all. This is the second one of yours I've played and it was, as usual, well-written and fun.
I would say, however, that the level recommendation seems a little screwy. I note that you've stated it's largely class-dependant, but I waltzed through with a 13 Rogue/Fighter (14 by the end) and he was barely scratched. Indeed, I didn't lose one hp - not one - to the dragon.
Anyway, that's by the by, as I play all these mods for enjoyment and story, more than anything, and this fitted the bill.

I really enjoyed this module. It had a fun story, well-written dialog, and even entertaining journal entries (you don't see THAT every day). I do think there are too many enemies at one time, not because that makes it too difficult but because it slows the performance. I was going frame-by-frame in the crypt. I think it would be better to hold a few back and have them sneak up on you. But the rewards are also gargantuan...
I hope you noticed how badly inept and inarticulate that droll little troll was in trashing you. There's a bad grape on every vine.

Shadowy, you're my new best friend!
Sometimes, for some reason, people like to trash modules. I've come to realize it's a part of life, and I stopped worrying about it a long time ago. In fact, when people trash my mods, I take the same attitude as Adam Miller... "sniff, sniff... I have a troll. I feel like a somebody now..."
:)
Thanks for everyone's comments, btw. I just noticed that it's been over a year since I left a comment on this page. Where does the time go?

DANGER!!! THIS MODULE SUCKS!!!
it's stupid. 4 area mod with undead, slaads, earth elementals and blue dragon! i think Chris Irby must write "Worst adventure ever again", inspider by this mod. it doesn't make any sence at all! 4 example, why in the nine hells blue dragon have blue dragon armoe in his "horde" (u know, this out-of-place-chest-in-forest)? and i've told mayor dat i've cleared norht woods, even don't being there, and he's rewarded me!
wait, i have more complains. what a joy. why all people in this village SO ANNOYING? mayor was just like windows - asking stupid questions and saying simple things over an over...
this is clearly n00b mode, still it has one good side - idea. i think u can do smth better (it's not hard to do smth better then THAT, anyway). with time u'll gain enough experience in scripting and storytelling, so keep trying
But I have something to say to someone who sooooo meanly cut u down like a snake..
To Dalbayob!
Who the heck do you think you are??? Have you ever made a mod? Were you FORCED to download this one? How can you be so Cruel to a First effort????? And a dang GOOD first effort if I ever saw one!!!
Grow up and learn to be a little more respectful of others.. What the heck was DANGER!!! THIS MODULE SUCKS!!! ??????? What are you in high school?
I so agree with Phalanges... Please if you have constructive critisism to give fine.. But all I am trying to say it PLEASE just do not be rude!!!!

I can only second Phalanges' comment. I really enjoyed this one even though it wasn't all too long.
- great atmosphere with a nice hint of humor
- entertaining and well-balanced fights
- great dialogue choices and witty, believable NPCs
- overally good mapdesign and development
All in all, this is a really well-done little module and a nice tip for everyone who has a character in the mid-teens (lvl 13-17) lying around.
Plus, I now want to play the other modules of this author. They are visibly longer afaik, but if they are as consistent, colorful and well-bred as this appetizer here, then I'll have a whole lot of fun soon... =D

A fun, quick module with some good stuff and a few short side quests.

v1.15 of this module is very simple. The idea is interesting. The main plot is not bad. It's good to have no major bug. But it's not what I wanted! I just didn't enjoy it at all.
Well, despite Dalbayob's comments, I thought this was a fine, simple but fun mod, and an exceptional first effort.
SPOILERS:
I happen to enjoy short mods, so I had no complaints about the limited scope -- the 4 areas Dalbayob finds insuffucient. The battles were fun, varied, and frequent enought to keep my level ArcnArch8/Wiz4/Ftr4 character busy;, the dialogue was well scripted (and correct in spelling and grammar -- hooray!); the final battle was challenging; the quests were straightforward but interesting (who would have expected the old man's basement to be so BIG!); the rewards were satisfying. I did encounter the bug that Dalbayob did -- the one where a dialogue option prompts the mayor the reward clearing out the North den, before that task is actually completed -- but it was a minor problem, and didn't inhibit gameplay at all.
It's not Dave Mason's finest work (anyone who's played the Harper's Tale mods knows that!) but it's a perfectly entertaining mod.

This is a fun little module. I don't mean "little" in a disparaging way, but in the way the story focuses in on the character and the town rather than saving the universe from an invasion of intergalactic balors and whatnot. I enjoy dark and heavy modules, but it's fun to do something smaller and more upbeat, too. Thanks!

Lay off the author for a minute and use your brain. The date on this thing is August 2002. It looks like this is the first thing Dave Mason made... Since then, he has create the Harper's Tale modules, which are awesome and are in the Hall of Fame. You should view this mod as the humble origins of a superb builder and scripter.
