Title  Qlippoth's Chain-Scale Armor Fix
Author  Qlippoth
Submitted / Updated  08-13-2003 / 09-06-2003
Category  Code Modifications
Expansions  Works on all versions
Description
There's a much better (and bigger (10MB) hak for this out there: http://nwvault.ign.com/Files/hakpacks/data/1034696952292.shtml Mine is only one file (2K) and no models. This is a simple 2DA change making the armor values more like the PHB values. Someone is working on a really good change of this type, but it's still in Beta and has texture quality issues. Hopefully you'll be able to ditch mine and use theirs (Which I'll do myself ;) when they're done with it. I believe you can drop this in your servers override directory and all players should be good to go WITHOUT a hak file. If you HAVE a Hak file, you might as well just drop this modified 2DA file into it. This fixes: The Chainmail torsos are NOW chainmail (AC 5, Max Dex 2, etc.) The Scalemail torsos are NOW Scalemail (AC 4, Max Dex 3*, 75 Gold (PHB says 50**) etc.)

NOTE: The Chain Jacket and the torn chain torso has been changed to be AC 3, Max Dex 4, etc. This changes the values to mach studded leather. I used AC 3 because this was the only way to get this armor as light armor. You can, of course, add an AC bonus, but the price will go up. My first inclination was to try to do this with copies of the chain torsos, but have been unable to do so. Like I said, someone else is working on a real fix (and then some). If you don't LIKE this you can remove this or if there are enough requests I'll look into doing a non-chain shirt version. When I was looking at this I could finally understand why they did it this way. It's not an excuse, but I can understand what they were working with. * I could not change the description, so it SAYS Max Dex is 4, it's REALLY 3. ** Yes, scale is supposed to be 50gp, but I think 75 makes for a better progression. - Qlippoth

Oy, omeone put out a realy cool armor addon for HotU (Evlen chain and Mithral plate, etc). He uses some scripting tricks for his, I might borrow his stuff and make a more comprehensive fix if he helps me...

Well, I'm not sure I want to go through making a new Armor Fix for Hotu. I thought they might fix an important bug, but they don't think it's important or can't.

I was contemplating making a nice big release, but it seems like a lot of trouble, for me, for the builder, and even the players.

I'll be checking back here to look for comments. I might undertake a smaller update to this one to add a _little_ more variety using some of Thallion Stellani's chest armor art. Maybe make a breastplate or two in the scale slot, letting you add an AC point in the toolset.

Actually, I didn't do the big version, I only did this little one. But I'll have to look into that when I do another larger one. I'll likely be using his work to make a more comprehensive armor hak after HotU comes out.

It will be a seperate hak from this one.

Heya, just thought I'd mention that I've been using this (the 10mb version) for quite a while, but have just noticed that a lot of the extra models don't cover half-orcs. In fact, if a halforc puts on something that looks fine for other races, nwn crashes :S

Of course, I haven't checked back here for a while so you might have fixed that. I'll download the latest big version and hope for the best :)

Wow, with all the new HotU info it is HIGHLY unlikely I will do a comprehensive armor hak. I might still do so, but HotU may make things so much easier and gie me the ability to do it right.

I will try look at making a hak which makes armor bonus attributes not cost any extra gold, so chain shirts can be done right. This does mean you'll need to manually re-add the armor bonus price hike to any items with it as you so choose. I'll try to make this available as a seperate hak or optional hak.

Okay, I'm looking at the Armor AddOn by Thallion Stellani. I have permission to continue with his work as a base and I think I can work out just about all armor types as listed in the PHB. NOTE that this may NOT include Mithril versions, unless I can figure out a method of doing so or unless Bioware fixes their armor.2da bug.

If you liked the Armor AddOn hopefully I'll be finishing up some armor designs for my fix version and start on a comprehensive (10MB) version next week. I'll be releasing it as a seperate hak, as this version has the major advantage of being 4k. I may also wait and see what happens in HotU before starting the big project. :)

Yeah, I know there hasn't been an update in a while, but there isn't much to update (it works). I do have some nice armor designs I should probably include. You could use tham as is or change their color scheme (like for official guards and such).
I'll see if I can't get this done over the weekend. Sept 6th was the last update, if it's later than that I'll note the new armors included. Check back later.
I might also include some designs for the other armor fix out there, I have permission to use it as a base so I'll probably make armors for that, and maybe add a no cost hak as well so you can directly control prices of armors regardless of "magical" ac bonuses.

In the below entry on the first line of the update, Hak=Module.

And my last comment was about using the Armor Addon by ThallionStellani, using one of his copies of a breastplate at 4/3 and adding a +1 AC bunus for a proper breastplate...

- Qlippoth? I'm so confused... :P

Anoyone using this? Happy with it?

***UPDATE:

I added a hak file and module so you can jump right in and take a look before dropping the files in your override or hak. You can also get started right away making your own armors in this module and simply move them over to your module later.

I also included the armors in the example module in an Erf, in case you just want to check them out. I thought I would include examples, since many people (including myself) have a hard time designing scale to be LIGHTER than chain. This is mainly for those of us who have been befuddled by Bioware's armor bug.

In the PHB there are pictures of armor types on page 106 which show scale as mainly a pullover shirt which only protects the torso and shoulders. I've taken some liberties in my own example which has a scale skirt and one sleeve for a pike/spearman.

I will likely be releasing a new 2DA so that AC bonuses will not add cost. You WILL have to add costs with the additional cost box on your armors if you have magical armor with these bonuses, but at least you'll have proper Chain Shirts.
The Armor Addon I mentioned before would be able to use this as well, so you could use a 4/3 scale with a +1 AC bonus with no additional cost (except for what you add manually in the toolset).

UPDATE: Wow, I screwed up myself. I forgot to add one file to my submission. I added another file which will set the Scale to 4/3 instead of 4/4.

You will NOT have to update any armors you made WITH my original release. Just add the new files (only one is new) and it will fix your armors for you.

First, I wanna appologize, it's not "shoddy" programming. It's just a bug and I know how they slip in. Heck, I spent at least 60 hours testing NWN at Infogrames myself, so I can't exactly dodge blame.

I submitted a bug report, we'll see if they can fix it or not. I suggested that if they could fix it they (and the community) could do many more armor types (like a REAL chain shirt or Breastplate). Hopefully they'll even receive the report.

NOTE: All 2DAs are no longer notepad friendly, so if you wanna change any 2DAs, use the new 2DA editor out there. Should be right here on the vault (since I got my copy here).

The link I posted in my description I added recently, which is the version I was talking about. Last time I had looked it WAS still beta. I'm still working on my content, and I decided I needed a fix sooner. After I posted I noticed it was basically done (and quite well).

I may move to that version later, but for now I just wanted to start building my armors with proper graphics. I might look into the other version for pointers into doing things better, but the fix they used seems to be the only one I could find.

If you don't like the chain shirts at AC 3, Dex 4 you can change lines 34 and 36 back to 5. When you change the AC value in this file it references the parts_chest.2da.

Originally I set it to AC 9 and added a parts line 9, but it doesn't reference the parts_chest.2da LINE for values, it SETS the value from the line itself and IGNORES the armor value specified in the parts 2DA. What the heck?! Shoddy programming there.

Good fix. I didn't like the 10mb version because I thought it was too large for what it offered.

Question though, who's making the armor fix that you'll be switching to? Got a link to the beta? Just curious.
