Terry--ignorance is a BAD thing. The portable hole has been a staple of D&D for years. It has nothing to do with Winnie the Pooh. Honestly, bone up on your D&D Lore. >8D

I seem to recall seeing this in a winnie the pooh episode a few, well more than a few, years ago :D
Honestly, get some original ideas :P

Kefrem, what version of NWN are you using? You need database functionality to be able to use this(or the inventory doesn't get stored anywhere). Not going to add in the DmG rules on putting a bag of holding into a portable hole, it would require far to much scripting.(I have a feeling that the only way to check the contents of a bag of holding is through an on heartbeat script).

A bag of holding placed in portable hole results in a rift torn to the Astral plane in that place. Nice rift but the PCs are usually Okay. The bag and hole are drawn into the rift and lost somewehere in the infinite silver sky of the Astral Plane.
A hole placed in bag results in a gate to the Astral Plane being opened and everything within 10 feet is sucked into the Astral Plane (see DMG 3.0 page 224). The boom nonsense was stopped years ago :(
I suppose a builder could script it but who has the time to build the infinite Astral Plane, along with it's dead gods, githyanki, astral dreadnoughts, colour pools etc? It would be a great start to a module though! Of course, the fact that the Astral Plane has no gravity, or up or down, or anything really, could make building a module there quite difficult, but I suppose CODI will come up with something for this eventually.

You know the creators of D&D must have gotten the idea for the portable hole from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. There are several instances of this. Hey, a great idea is a great idea! Now we need Wile E. Coyotte's can of ACME instant tornado pellets. Just make sure the stopper on your squirt gun is on tight!

Do you know what happens when you put a bag of holding in a portable hole or visa-versa? Boooom!
Is this scripted in?

Thanks for the advice Danmar, still trying to muddle my way through this 3d stuff. I wasn't sure what poly count to go for, so I just went for low.
Posted by Danmar ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-04 12:21:00
Might I suggest cranking up the polycount a little more? Given the simplicity of the shape using a disc with 36 or 64 divisions wouldn't be out of the question at all and it would give a much nicer 'round' shape. even if you've flipped a set of polys to make it double sided you're still way low on poly count. Although I think I'd make it one sided and even adjust the pwk points so that you only use it from the 'front' side. :)

Ok, I have just posted a sphere of annihialation to the vault. Seems to work ok.
Posted by hakalot ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-04 04:57:00
According to the books, the Sphere of Annihilation moved about randomly unless commanded by a Mystara Immortal or the proper artifact. Then again, there's no reason why it couldn't target said artifact by default...

Now that is good news Knat, Cheers :). Seems like a lot of people want a Sphere of Annihilation so I am gonna scale the model down and add some animations and a bit of scripting.
Posted by hakalot ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-04 04:40:00
or add the ability to cast some form of evard's black tentacles and you have a 1e D&D Soul-Eater...
Posted by Knat ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-04 03:32:00
very nice idea...
just wanted to let you know that bioware will soon integrate a ExportSingleCharacter() function ;) (i think it's in 1.31 already, but havent checked the beta so far)
Posted by Hakalot ( ..xxx.xxx ) at 2003-08-04 01:36:00
Now all ya need is someone to script a way to make this appear when you place a portable hole inside a bag of holding or fumble a dim door or plane shift spell...

"At last a Sphere of Annihilation"
LMAO, you read my mind Timidon. :-)
This is great as either. I'm hoping someone takes the model and makes it into a monster so we could possibly see a SoA in the future.
Great model though, and with the persistence this is very useful.

Go ahead, Timmy, poke your head in it. I'm sure Lassie will come and save you.

At last a Sphere of Annihilation

This looks pretty promising. Does it animate from a small hole to a big one when you open it? That'd be cool :)
