Hello Sailors!
The original ZORK I The Great Underground Empire was a text based interactive fiction game. It was an adventure where the player typed commands in a command line user interface and got response back in written from. Like:
>Game: “You see a large tree, what do you want to do?”
>Player: “Cut down tree”
>Game: “With what do you want to chop down the tree with?”
>Player: “Cut tree with knife”
>Game: “You start to cutting the tree with your pocket knife but soon realize that it would take you a lifetime.”
You get the idea. This is an adaption of that game and it's done using Neverwinter Nights 2. It can never be the same game as the original but what I felt when I played Zork I all those thousands of years ago are inside it. It will absolutely differ from other players perception of it, but that could never be my responsibility.
But apart from that, the game is not DnD or any other RPG. If you are looking for serious role playing or a hack and slash feast you might be disappointed as this is mainly a puzzle adventure. If you like games like Myst or Riven but want to be able to move around in a 3D world and feel more inside the game I think this module is a great one. Anyway, I hope you give it a try.
You probably find most answers to you questions in the walkthrough, but if there's still some questions don't hesitate to ask them in the forum at nwn2zork.freeforums.org. If if find a bug or another issue please report them there.
And remember, ZORK I was a really difficult game. So even if I've removed lots of things you could screw up the game with and introduced several clues and straightened up the logical flow - it's still a very hard game to beat.
Don't hang down you head if you need to consult the walkthrough or the endless resources of the Internet (yes the original maps and hint books are valid for this module).
Enjoy, and don't let the Grue bite you!

Now, that was an awesome adventure! Well worth a replay (if I'd only find the time! )
And great piece of work porting it to NWN(2)! And a very good documentation!
Thanks for putting it up here!
It's already unnerving when you begin a module and all your equipment is taken away from your character without even asking, but that you meet enemies and they kill you without a fight... Well, that's simply ridicolous.
It's a wasted effort in my opinion. Too bad, becouse the attention on details it's really high.
It was based probably on the original cruel zork game ;)
You should ruuuuun, Caffeine, run!
oh.. I've never heard of that game. xD
The link is in description, but here we go again: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zork
No, all right, i see, i was meaning that i've never played with that, nor heard before now. Anyway, i don't care from what game is taken, Dungeons & dragons means balancing puzzles, fights and roleplay. A module that contains just one of those can't be a masterpiece of that genre. And if it's just a remake of another game, well, here i can only give vote for D&D alike games.
Didn't your mother ever tell you that if you wander out into the dark you'd get eaten by a grue?
My mother is the first that usually tells me to go out for my way (dark or not) and do not continue to bother her.
So has anyone actually played through this? I've poked at it a bit but I never played Zork and I'm not a big fan of puzzles to begin with. Just like to get an unbiased review from an actual survivor of the mod.
Atmophereically, this is possibly the best Neverwinter Nights 2 module I have played yet! This adaption of ZORK is awesome! It's very fun, fairly non-violent, stylish, and creative. New objects and rules were implemented to the game to facilitate an immersive experience as you attempt to solve puzzles. Not only is the charm and whimsy of ZORK captured, but a classy, slightly melanchoy but entirely addictive atmophere is presented. From the moment ZORK The Great Undergroun Empire starts, you know you're in for a quality experience. This is the level of design and craftmanship that I desire when playing a Neverwinter module. Good job!
See? For one John that doesn't like modules such this one there's two or three Syl which will love them!
