Tomoachan is an adaptation of C1: The Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan, a module that was originally used for the Official Advanced Dungeons & Dragons tournament at Origins 1979, and was the first in series of modules from TSR, the Competition Series. The module has been adapted and expanded from the original. If you are a min/max, power gamer, I'd recommend trying this mod on a hard difficulty setting or with no more than a 4th level character.
This adventure is ideal for single player. 4th or 5th level male characters are very strongly recommended. Humans, half-elfs, and elves are encouraged. There is a 'romance' with a human woman featured prominently in the plot, thus the recommendation. There are a few references that indicate the player is definitely a man, but if you don't mind overlooking this and want to romance a human woman with a halfling woman, go to town!
I would recommend this module for teen or older due to content.
The module represents a good mix of role playing, hack and slash, and tricks and traps.
It is intended for 4th-6th level characters. Dialog and plot problems will occur in multiplayer but other game mechanics should be ok. I did not have the opportunity to run a multiplayer test.

On the old IGN Vault, this module was selected as a Hall of Fame winner. It received a score of 8.66 based on 118 votes.

Very nice and enjoyable adaptation of The Hidden Shrine of Tomoachan. I had played another one, made for NWN1, but for some reason I prefer this one... perhaps the whole thing felt different due to NWN2 visual style, or some other minor detail that ended up improving the experience. Since it is based on an old AD & D classic, one cannot complain about its size or plot... it might have been changed a little bit, adding some more content, but in the end it would probably be a bad idea... as it is the mod actually manages to give the player some of the old school feeling... you can almost hear the voice of the Dungeon Master describing the rooms of the pyramid and the critters you faced as you progress through the mod... to send us back all those years to an old garage or basement is a worthy achievement... I wish mods such as this one could be further improved, maybe remade using a more visually appealing engine, such as Dragon Age II for example. A pity the whole mod making community didn't receive the attention they deserve from the makers of the newer games... a new toolset that could be used with the same amount of creative freedom would definitely be welcome.
Played this the other day with a Ranger build. Started at level 5 and finished about half way though level 6.
All-in-all, an enjoyable evening of adventuring.
A very small but quite enjoyable module, that you can complete in few hours.
Played with a swashbuckler human with roguish skills. I would recommend 4th lv fighter-like characters. (Some encounters are a little bit under-powered)
MINOR SPOILERS: I ususally hate the adventures that "force" your character to begin the story in a certain way (you know: jail, party, lost, happy pixie friend when you want to play a grimm drow, etc.); but in this case, the openning and the runaway sequences are fun and quite exciting. Perhaps some kind of visual effect could have been posible for the gased zones?
For me, this is the best adaptation of the Tomoachan module in the Vault thanks to the author's respect for the original adventure, the atmospheric visuals, and the audio and music choices (it surprises me that no one has already mentioned that: they are wonderful!). This is a great mix of the old PnP virtues with the agility and freshness that NWN2 can offer. Intelligent use of narrative and environtment tools give you a lively sense of urgency: you almost curse yourself when using the search button (I've to look around but I've got to hurry!!!). One of those jobs that makes you search in the Vault for more works of the author!
Love old school conversions. Will give it a try.
