I tried to play this but the beginning felt rushed and very railroaded. The idea of being mistaken for someone you're not was brilliant, the implementation on the other hand was horrid. My main annoyance was that the PC could never say that they weren't who the people thought they were. Needless to say I've uninstalled the mod because of that. Shame really. If this was fixed and the beginning reworked to actually make some sense this could be a fun little mod. As it stands I wouldn’t recommend it.
As noted above, there are some serious plot holes here. However if you grit your teeth and plough ahead, it can be a moderately enjoyable module. Combats were a bit odd as in some areas, two or three unrelated groups of creatures would descend on your party making those combats feel just plain weird. Overpowered enemies in some places are there for story purposes and you are not intended to fight them.
There are several long cut scenes before the final fight. Save before you speak to the mayor. None of your companions can be used as a tank. Plan on the PC being the main melee fighter regardless of class.
After the big battle in Trinad, you regather your party and it looks like you are setting off after the final boss. That is actually just epilog. After you have spoken to everyone you wish among the survivors, you may export your PC. There is no cue that the mod is over.
Bug: When you fight the druid, be careful not to destroy his summoning object, a vase. It has to be destroyed by a conversation after the fight to advance the plot.
There are some good things in this module, but there are also many others "not so good".
CONS: The party is pretty unbalanced basically forcing you to create a tank. The whole story is not bad but the plot is very disjointed and sometimes it feels very forced. There are many encounters that don't make sense at all and you can clearly see that they were put there just to lenghten the module and/or in order to not leave the maps too empty. More than often things happen just "because".
PROS: Companions story are very good. Some remarkable dialogue and some enjoyable moment.
Considering that is not very long I'd still reccomend it but not as a first choice.
Reading the reviews above I feared the worst about this module. Big Mistake. It's just a great low lv mod with interesting dialogs and cinematics, well-written and clearly above the average. A note from the author about the kind of character you should play (or a pre-generated one) would have defeated most of people's reticences... or I think so. Some weird characters and visuals but, apart from that, a great work.
I hestitated to play, but I enjoyed the mod and by the end it pretty much all made sense!
One of the best modules!
I see the not so great ratings, but I'm here to tell you this is a great module to play!
Possibly the problems with the module the others have experienced have been taken care of in an update?
So ... I played it early September, pandemic year 2020 as a wizard. That made two wizards on my team and it worked out just fine except for three places in the game: I leveled up at the very beginning so that I could give myself open lock. I leveled up (even though I was only 330 xp's away) during the battle with the demons in the forest so that I can have scintillating spheres to toss at him. Then lastly, I could not win the battle at the end at the top of the tower, so I gave myself an epic hellball ... but that was still barely enough because the battle continued on for a good while before we finished him off. Whew! Such a great game this is.
The story was very engaging. The module must have been made for a barbarian or paladin due to comments from NPCs about items that were assumed to be in my posession, but I could not equip due to being a wizard. Sure there were some typos but nothing to harp over. There were some dialog choices that would have been cleared off in order to keep the conversations cleaner and neater, but oh well.
I like some of the 'easter eggs' I found while playing and it was fantastic to see at the end of the game the NPCs mentioning some of them. This was a good touch to the game. On this playthrough I missed some good loot (ring of regeneration) in the tower that could have come in handy, but I found it on my way down the tower to sell junk off before going back to base.
Anyway, if you are looking for a good module to play then I recommend this one. It's not just good it's one of the best. Netflix could adapt a movie or tv series from this!
