Once upon a time in a far away land you were given a job to do, a job that would take you on a journey that would alter the way that this land would be forever.
Starting at level one with no equipment you should finish up at level fifteen.
Now here's the bad part...
There are restrictions !
Not because I'm being lazy but for the sake of the story and you will feel a bit daft if you ignore them.
You MUST be a Human ( male or female ), not old, ( twenty something ) and here's the tough one, you should not be a caster of any type including clerics. As this is set in a land where magic users suffer. For all you wizards and sorceresses out there do not be put off as the fireworks fly in this module and you could finish up with a spell book to be proud of ( just keep your eyes open ). You will also be able to use them all regardless of class, this is part of the story and how magic works in this "far away" land and you will need it. So any "purists" that don't believe Barbarians can do fireballs might get upset and shouldn't play this.
So I recommend a Paladin, Blackguard, Fighter, Ranger or Barbarian. This is also just about Monk friendly but I would recommend taking the "good" path as you're lack of armour can lead to accidents, normally fatal. A Rogue is pointless as there are no traps etc. I have tested this with all of the above on normal setting and lived to tell the tale.
You will have one permanent companion, one that could be and two others are possible but not for too long. They are a Bard, Druid, Monk and Swashbuckler. There is good reason for two having magical abilities as you will see. They all like talking and have quite a lot to say for themselves. There is also a horse to be found in the first module and I strongly recommend taking him along, he levels up too ( just press recommended and ignore his longsword abilities he's getting ideas above his station ). Try not to lose him, he also has a part to play.
One of your companions is fully romanceable ( male or female), be nice and patient and look out for a large bed as that will really start it ( providing you've expressed an interest). If you choose to have a quick "fling" with another one you will find your potential partner is quite understanding and doesn't mind, after all you're only Human.
Be warned there is a big choice in this in the first module, it's quite literally staring you in the face. There is no going back from what you do, it will not make your companions run away and they will change with it. But it does alter your conversation options and determines the ending you will get. Just be yourself and think about what it actually is that you're doing. One path is definitely easier than the other, you have been warned.
Gameplay wise.. Conversation skills are not necessary but you will get xp for some wise answers. Combat skills are useful along with casting ones for your companions, Healing and Track can be good too. Forget the crafting department as there isn't any, I think that would have been banned along with the spells and I haven't got a clue how it works.
It's hard to say how dark some of the caves and dungeons are as when I play this on my laptop they're bright but on my PC they're dark ! So hopefully I've got a happy medium, if this gives you a problem torches are available and you're bard assistant is always ready with a light spell.
There is roleplay in this when it matters and not lists of options on every conversation and some options will only be available depending on what you have done. So that's why this says light. There is also the role that you play in this that is far more important, all will be revealed.
I think all weapons except for Quarterstaffs are catered for but having a throwing axe speciality would be rather silly. You can get the Exotic weapon feat for nothing in the second module and medium armour could help your Bard. Favoured enemies, I think the most popular ones would be.. Humans, Undead and Half Orcs.
I'd recommend setting your companions behaviour to.. Defend Master-ON, Follow and Guard Distance-NEAR. It stops them going on the rampage and saves some fighting for you. Do the opposite with the horse ( OFF and FAR ) otherwise he'll get scared.
Some merchants will only buy certain things, this has been done to keep prices reasonable and is not an attempt at reality. It also prevents you from creating an extremely lucrative trading business and spending all your time becoming rich.
You can rest anywhere except for one area ( I had to do it to make it a challenge ) and just so long as you have dealt with enemies beforehand or found a quiet spot. There is no custom death behaviour. Respawn, reload or give up will be your options should you perish, but try not to you'll upset your friends and leave a land in chaos!
Many thanks for the excellent Hak Paks goes to.
Installation instructions.
This is in three parts so it's not such a big download. Uncompress all three and then..
Part 1.
Parts 2 and 3 are just modules and go straight in your modules folder.
With regards to your override I think any appearance overrides should be fine, if someone looks a bit silly then save, take it out and reload. With regards to haks that alter behaviour I haven't got a clue but you could let me know what happens.
** For anyone interested ralebeau kindly put some portraits that suit this module on the vault ( follow the link up above ).**
Now get your handsome/beautiful hero/heroine ready, there's a whole land waiting for you !

Hello
I realy dont want to kill any Elf farmers. Is there a way around it?
I cannot leave sanctuary. After talk with Ashley and Ferm I go to statue and after "leaving" LMB doesn't work and I stay at same area.
EDIT: Problem was elves.mod in sub folder in \modules
I am a great fan of Tsongo's modules because they are exactly my cup of tea. Sometimes I think they are more visual novels with combat than true RPG games but the story, the charachters and the writing are so good that I can't help being hooked on them just like when you are reading a book which is so good that you cannot stop reading it no matter what happens around you. And the difference here is that YOU are inside that book and you are living it in person. So, if you are like me and you love this kind of games all the modules from this author, Serene, A Fairy Tale and Bad Habits are a must play!
I enjoyed this mod all the way from start to end. I love how Tsongo made it such that the module has a solid plot, but includes many scenes where it dosen't take itself seriously, yet they all blend together really well! The dialogue genuinely made me laugh out loud at many points.
Every area, both exteriors and interiors, is meticulously created. Major characters and your companions are very memorable. Difficulty is challenging yet manageable, except for a certain sewer escape, I lost count on the number of times I died there.
A very solid and beautiful work, and an interesting story. Maybe a little too linear for my taste, but absolutely worth playing. I completed the game without any glitches or bugs.
Tsongo does wonderful work . I had these from the orginal vault. I had to replace my NWN2 discks that were dammaged after I got a new PC. Iam reinstalling all of my favorites. This is in my top 10 for NWN2 mods along with the rest of her work.
I can't believe how high this scored. Overrated.
Early and often the difficulty level is broken, but you have infinite, instant full health respawns in the middle of combat, so you can just respawn cheese your way through the difficulty spikes.
Eventually broken at a show stopper bug.
Finished everything in the City and can't enter the Church district to progress the story. Talk to the guard but it stopped by Fern who says she can't come with you and you should talk away from the guards.
Try talking to Fern away from guards, in the Merchant district, in the Slums, it makes no difference, she just repeats the discussion asking to come with you to see the Elves.
Dead ended completely...
3/10
I figured I would give this game a chance. The description sounded good, especially since one of the companions, Ashely, was supposedly going to be either male or female. At no point in the opening dialog is there anything about deciding the bard's gender. Also, I can make it to the first part of the Forest road, fight the skeletons and goblins, find the horse and add him to the pary, but that's as far as it goes. When I go the the next transition, I'm told that there's nothing there. I have all of the part 2 and part 3 modules in my NWN2 modules folder. I know that part 1 is installed since the game starts up.
As with the other two Tsongo Mods... a very satisfying level of H&S content wrapped in a compelling story.
My only criticism, there is lots of dialgoue with poor punctuation and frequent word substitutions. These problems are obvious enough to make it cumbersom to read. This module, in particular, had a ridiculously effortless final boss battle.
I get to Start after creating To The set rules Aaaannndddd Crash.. So,,, is it because I have MoTB installed ? As I know it says OC...
I only have a couple of Other Modules Installed so I am stumped
Can't help much I'm afraid, having MoTB should not hurt, be sure the campaign folder is installed and all modules in the modules Dir. After that start Campaign and not as module, I still think this one is long and a lot of fun.
I'm new to this site and this is the first of two game I've downloaded and played. By far this is the best game! There was no bugs that I could see. I didn't get trapped anywhere. The story flowed along nicely. I didn't catch myself wandering around the maps trying to get the plot moving. It was a pleasure to play! I didn't fill the need whatsoever to open the control panel and enter debugmode at all. 10 stars on this one. I'll not be able to avoid comparing every other game to this one. Thanks!
CricketX.. Sorry for the late reply I only just saw this as I don't often look at my mods and just wondered how this appeared in the top modules when it's old. I'm very pleased to hear you enjoyed your wanderings in Fairy Land and thanks for the nice comments. I'm remaking Serene at the moment so if you were considering playing it hold back until the new polished version arrives which will hopefully be in a couple of months, feel free to compare it to this I'd be interested in what you thought.
If you liked playing this you should like it as it's a similar style but a bit madder, a bit bigger and suits any class. However be warned that what the baddies do in it is really nasty, I let my fourteen year old daughter play this but not Serene.. Yet.
Not sure how the top modules are selected here, back on the old IGN vault it was just ratings. Here some of my favorites that I visit a couple of times a week do seem to make the top listing despite their age, hope I am helping them get noticed if so.
@ralebeau there are multiple unofficial listings e.g.

Voting helps with the live rankings.
Loving this adventure! Unfortunately, I appear to be stuck in the tunnels beneath the ruins. Having found the missing patrol, I go over to the area which map claims is "rope up", but there's nothing there. I can't make my way back to the surface. Poor Carrots! Languishing underground with his two only friends...
I had hoped for better help for you before now, all I see in the tools is the rope should be there already. If it is from the hak file, which I doubt, make sure that the hak is there and good, reload before entering the upper ruin and see if the rope gets placed. Last resort could be to run the script for the rope, from the command line rs gp_talk_object might work, but without object rope maybe not, unless this is a one off failure in the game engine there may be more trouble ahead anyway.
Edit, drilling further down here is the script called for in the rope convo: ga_jump_players("wp_rope_up",1,0)
might work as run script (rs) from the command line or the destination with another jump command.
Sorry I haven't been here for ages, thanks ralebeau for helping lost travellers on their quests. Anyway I have been warned about an issue with the Goblin caves at the beginning of the campaign and have posted a fix on the Nexus so I will do it here too. Here is what should happen..
You go in the caves, kill all the baddies and the bosses of the graverobbing enterprise, this will update your journal, if it doesn't then console this..
rs ga_journal("patrol",3,1,0,0,)
In this area ( the caves) is a sarcophagus and using/ touching this should start a conversation that also updates the journal, if not then back to the console and type this..
rs ga_journal("betrayed",2,1,0,0,)
If for some reason you've done all that you can and are running around wondering what happened and why you can't travel onwards then these two commands will sort it out. Sorry if you got stuck and I hope this will prevent anybody from getting frustrated when all they want to do is bash baddies and carry on questing !
Well, this module is for sure a mixed blessing as do they say. The story is interesting, and the setting too is nicely thought. The areas are finely made, and the plot is easy to follow, and your character is well placed in the middle of it.
Now the downside(s):
The npcs talk too much. You can't move two steps and they have something to say, and they go on with useless chatter endlessly. I mean, sometimes is good some jokes to take a break, but everytime you enter in a new area, and sometimes even in the middle, well, at some point i was simply clicking quickly for getting on.
The fights, of course as it has already stated by many others aren't very balanced. But in my opinion that is an issue that come out only with the last part of the adventure, after you get in the main city. Until that part i don't think they're unbalanced (of course if you play a fighter or alike class eh). Surely the REAL problem of this adventure is the HUGE number of enemies. If you don't like to fight endless waves of enemies, well don't even download this module. I mean, the fighting part is usually my favorite part, but this was more than enough even for me, and that says a lot.
Near the last part of the adventure monsters have crazy stats almost the level of Tchos ones. But at least here we could give a break to Tsongo since being a setting created 'ad hoc' he doesn't have to respond to manuals. But this of course doesn't justify the fact that just when you would need a full team becouse enemies are the thoughest, you end with only the useless bard, which it would seem her only true talent is to aggro every enemy in the area. (and considering the number of 'em, do your counts)..
Another downside is the fact that even if SOMETIMES (very few) you can choose the answer, there isn't this great deal of roleplay. Only some choices in few situations. Besides, the dialogue skills aren't even considered here.
Another thing that could have been implemented is more sidequests. I mean, you get in this big city, but it's just strickly main business.. (or if i'm wrong, i didn't find notable npcs that could give quests)
Anyway, i think this adventure is surely worth playing, (if you like hack 'n slash.)
p.s. i didn't find any bugs.
John Barleycorn.. Oh dear that has to be the first time anybody has complained about my companions talking too much but each to his/ her own I suppose. If you don't like talkative companions then I strongly suggest you don't play any of my other campaigns because they are more of the same and you won't like them at all and will get more frustrated.
Towards the end there is another companion so you don't just have to be with the "useless bard" but obviously you missed her and that was indeed a side quest. Bear in mind that it is you that equips and chooses the spells for the bard and I've always found him/ her to be very useful so maybe that's not my fault.
Anyway at least you think it's worth playing it was bug free and it can't have been that bad because you played it all.
You don't sound very happy about it nevertheless. What i say about bards, is that usually people thinks that bards, since they look like jacks of all trades they could easily replace wizards, fighters, rogues.... Well, it ain't like that. Bards work at their best as supporters, staying on back doing their bardic music. When someone thinks like that, it always ends with a dude that can't help you enough in fights, can't cast the spells you need (becouse the geniuses who made the rules thoght they would have been too strong at that point i guess?) and of course, if you need some thieving skills, they have usually only the useless ones. (like pickpocket) But ookay, whatever.
(spoiler)
Another companion... If you mean the return of the dryad, would have been better when i had to fight the hordes of jungle dudes or electric roaches and stuff like that. If you mean the dwarf, he stays with you more or less five minutes, if you mean the monk, either he leaves as soon you get in the city, if you mean someone else, yeah, i could have missed him/her, i remember there was a cave in the giant planes, i dunno, but when i was near i figured already another horde of enemies, aaand suddenly i didn't find myself so compelled.
I don't understand the 'can't have been that bad' part. I gave you 7, so i already stated that. Go complain with those gave you 3 or 4, i said it's a nice adventure, so i don't understand where is the problem.
p.s. about the endless pratter of companions, it's your style and ok, but i would suggest -at least- the option for your character to cut it short. Or add the choice on keeping quiet. You know, in some situations some jests may work for you, but maybe another player would simply shrug and don't say anything.
There's a swashbuckler in the city who will become your companion and replace Fern if you do her side quest so yes you did miss that. It also gives you a possible party of four at the end.
But seriously all my mods have lots of "endless pratter" from companions which you cannot switch off so if I was you I'd give them a wide berth.
I will surely take your word for it. Besides, you don't look like the type who is really interested in what others think after all...
Can't please everyone, as the saying goes. Same for andgalf's first module which I also thought more highly of, oh well. I still played A Fairy Tale a couple of times each year ever since it arrived over on the old vault, firmly in my NWN2 top 10.
ralebeau.. You're right you can't please everyone and if I tried to I'd still be making my first campaign !
Perhaps i should change the vote then, since everybody seems convinced i didn't like it even if i said the contrary.
Dear Tsongo
I decided to replay all your modules, and rate this time. Don't worry I will soon replay Serene too as you suggested.
Questions: Was there an early option to name the horse you get? I think i remember there was one. Did i miss it? Is there a console command to force the dialogue? I am near the elves now.
PS: Suggestion: Since i like Role Playing Games (and Roll) can you make female npcs romancable by females too. It seems that when i create a female character too my mind she likes only women :D. (I expertly avoided all taboo words! Yay!)
Lampros13.. I just looked it up with the toolset and there should be a horse naming dialogue if you ignore it the horse gets called Titus by default. I don't think you can run the dialogue again as it's module specific and the elves are in a separate module in the campaign.
This might work with the console, but no dialogue just a name change, you need two commands change the bits with * to what you choose
rs ga_first_name_set("horsey","*your choice name*",0)
rs ga_global_int("*your choice tag*","+")
The name choices to put in are..Dobbin, Fur Face, Shandy, Fred, Carrots, Clippety and Oscar
The tag choices are.. horse_dobb, horse_fur, horse_shandy, horse_fred, horse_carrot, horse_clip, horse_oscar (don't put in commas )
This might work, but it could be too late.
As for female PC's and female companions that's just too complicated unless you make one companion specifically that way inclined. I'm not really into that sort of thing, I'm bound to offend somebody and it's better to stick with what I know. I get it, you're a man playing a woman but your mind is still the same.
Don't forget I've had to romance all my male companions when testing as a woman and also the opposite when you have to be horrible to everybody. If I play any other game as a woman I go for the complete bad arse with no romance at all, she'll be way too busy smashing heads for all that stuff.
Happy travels !
Sorry but it is highly unlikely that I will be able to help with this in the future, my quest awaits and it doesn't include an amulet of good internet connection.
Hope you have fun playing this and take no prisoners !
