A high kicking, low punching, staff wielding, kama waving story driven campaign that will take your sack wearing brother or sister from level one to twenty. No need for bad haircuts or modelling yourself on Friar Tuck as you'll be expected to be in your mid twenties, fit and healthy and ready for anything.
Luckily for your misbehaving monk there are no alignment restrictions so don't worry about doing things that wouldn't be approved of back in your temple. This also applies to romancing your companions and providing that you're nice to them they should be more than happy to leap into bed. Lady monks however will have to follow a quest to seduce their darling.
There is nothing to stop you from playing as a Halfling barbarian if you want but it was made for human monks and therefore you will be treated as such and all equipment and things that you find are designed for a robe wearing brother or sister and their travelling companions.
Talking of companions you'll be teamed up for most of the game with a sorceror and a swashbuckler, there is also a fighter that will arrive and a favoured soul that needs a favour. Equip them well, make them some nice weapons or items and try to keep them alive as they're not a bad bunch and extremely loyal to your cause. They are also very talkative and like nothing better than discussing "current affairs" so don't forget to have a chat with them now and then.
There is crafting available and I strongly recommend that you use it when workbenches are available ( use the pestle and mortar on ingredients in your inventory to make the required essences ). Don't worry about giving your caster the necessary feats as she'll get them for free from somebody as the game goes on. However I do recommend investing in her "use magic item" skill so she can read any scroll.
A monk's life is not all about meditating, chanting and fighting and in this tale you will sometimes get the opportunity to be diplomatic and sneaky so invest in those skills as you will get more experience for doing some things without a fight. With diplomacy there is no "dice rolling" as if your level of competence is high enough the option will just appear in the conversation. If you feel the need to sneak then putting your companions in puppet mode ( behaviour tab ) or telling them to wait will prevent them from cramping your style. In fact in some situations rushing in and attacking everything at once will be a recipe for disaster.
Monks move fast so I strongly advise setting your companion's behaviour to make sure they don't get left behind ( guard distance and follow distance should be as short as possible ) and don't forget to turn off "back away" too because.. Well because you're a hero/ heroine of course. Your caster companion would probably appreciate being set to overkill casting mode too.
There are side quests in this and I recommend that you do them all even if some seem to be completely "unmonkish", but these are desperate times and call for desperate measures. Besides they'll get you to a higher level earlier and it will help your inventory too.
I have tested this on normal only and I've managed to scrape through with nobody dying at all but it wasn't easy. Apparently on hardcore it's very hard and there will be casualties so there's a challenge for your hardcore monk, but don't say I didn't warn you. If you get battered there is a respawn/reload/quit option so the choice is yours but save often if you want to keep everybody alive. You can rest just about anywhere providing it's not next to any villains or monsters but doing that would be rather silly.
Talking of monsters there is one big red one that you will encounter on your travels and I advise living to fight another day as you will get another chance to deal with him when you're better prepared as he's extremely hard to kill first time around.
To play this you need both expansions ( Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir ) and it's also compatible with a Mac. I have no idea how long it takes to play but it's a looong time.
There is one issue with custom dresses but they looked too good so I left them in this. So if you have a strange wardrobe malfunction try removing whatever's in the belt slot and putting it all back on again, that always worked for me and if by any chance your sorceror companion suddenly pops up topless on the level up screen don't worry about it because she does that sometimes too.. No idea why, I guess she's a bit of an exhibitionist on the quiet !
Installation...
This is in four compressed folders and I use win rar to unzip them.
Part one includes everything you need to get started. Put the folder called Bad Habits in your campaign folder, the three haks in your hak folder ( they're called badhab, blacb and blacd ) and the module called escape goes in your module folder.
Parts two three and four are just modules so put them in your modules folder.
Many thanks go to the following people for the custom content that's in this module..
Yaddaman, Chimneyfish, Aleanne, Porcelyn and Barrel of Monkeys for assisting with fashion issues.
zpirits, alupini and RWS for the scenery, ornaments and fungus.
Elyzius and komuro for some nasty looking baddies to bash
Rogue Dao for the flapping lips
and kamal for some special effects and lighting.
Thanks to all the helpful people on the Bioware NWN2forums for always coming to my rescue when I hadn't got a clue what I was doing. Which is quite often !
Also to Frosty44 for playtesting, ensuring this is compatible with a Mac. showing me things from a player's point of view and making releasing this not so scary because I know it works on other computers.
This module has been brought over by me from the Nexus where it was living for a few year so although not new it's new here and I hope you enjoy playing it.

Great to see this here on the vault! I've played this twice and had great fun both times.
I just started playing it, and it looks good so far. I just have to report a few typos:
Also, for everybody: don't forget to empty your override (it's not the first time I see this conflict, but it looks like Kamal's tilesets project changed some tiles).
GCoyote... I'm glad you enjoyed your sack wearing days, thank you.
4760... Thanks for pointing those out but I'm sure there are a whole load more typos and I can't fix it at the moment ( apart from the campaign description ) because I'm bogged down remaking another one of my mods which probably had even more. I'll have to play it and see what can be done later but it's so big it scares me because once you start reopening this and correcting bits you're really in for the long haul.
Glad you decided to post your classic module here, Tsongo.
It's nice to go to the Nexus and find stuff you won't find anywhere else, but for NWN2 this still is the best place to be.
andgalf.. I'm pleased to hear you think it's a classic. It was made for my favourite class monks, but I've become quite impressed with bards at the moment whilst doing some play testing.
I agree this place is better for NWN2 and the Nexus is good for all sorts of things but it annoyed me with it's adverts and cookie permissions when I went to find this so it got downloaded and put here.
Hi Tsongo and everybody. I've been playing this amazing campaign during the quarentine and having a lot of fun. But got stuck at the Drow City gate. The party members are swapping places and no access to the transition area to the city interior. None of them is able to step ahead. Any script needed? I faced this swapping places experience once when playing dear Lance Botelle's The Scroll. Kindly he built a patch and I could go on. Any suggestion? Thanks in advance.
Sorry but I've got no idea what's going on with the swapping places thing and don't really know what you mean by it, is there something in your override that's spooking your companions ? I haven't played or looked at this module for a very long time and had to find the drow city but can't see any transition near a gate. It looks like you have to talk to the guards and they open the gates. Hope this helps.
Thanks Tsongo. The swapping thing is really weird. You click on a certain spot to take there one of the members ot the party and when he/she arrives the main PC takes over saying "yes". I was trying to make the witch talk to the guards (they say only "human, piss off"). The gate is open and the transition area is there. But no one in the party manages to step on the transition spot. And, trying the witch to step there, the swapping thing occurs, the main PC says yes and the team doesn't enter into the city. If you agree I can send you a PM with the saved game when I stopped playing. Thanks for the assistance. You know how many hours I've played until I arrived in the drow city.
The swapping thing happens when only the PC is able to use social skills so all conversations must start with the player controlling the PC. This will happen in the OC if you use a companion to try to talk to a shopkeeper.
The problem with not being able to move could be a corrupted tile in your download or possibly just a bump state issue with too many characters in one place. Try selecting all characters at once and then click on any nearby walkable space. That will sometimes allow the game engine to overcome the space limitation.
Just finished it. Though I'm not the "monkish" type, I enjoyed it greatly. A triumph just like "Serene" and "A Fairy Tale".
Sawdust37.. Thank you and I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed your robe wearing days. Watch this space, Serene's having a makeover ( not literally she still looks the same ) and will be finished soon.. I hope !
matuto.. Sorry I missed your second post as I whizzed to the bottom. I think you're walking on a speak trigger that can only fire when you've reached a certain point in the game. So something's missing and it keeps calling you back.
To tell you the truth I can't even remember everything that happens in this campaign and what goes in what order so if you want to send me the saved game you can and I'll try to see what's going on and how to jump it.
Disregard this I think I've found where you are as there are two drow cities used and I think I know what's happened. Simon and kim need to be dressed as slaves and the conversation with the guard should work which will destroy the block on the gate if you haven't got the clothes use the console.. giveitem dslave_cloth0
Hope this gets it all working again.
Thanks Tsongo and Gcoyote, Yes, entered in debug and there is a speak trigguer near the gate. The golem is in the clearing, Kim is the slaver and the two others are with their slave rags on and I also removed all headgear, rings, boots, weapons, etc... But all quests, as far as I know, until the city are solved but one: the kidnapped girl and the orcs. I left the area without talking to her family and there is no way back, I think. I solved the hell and mine quest, saved the captain's daughter and entered the marshes. So, probably there is a problem with the speak trigguer and/or the transition area into the city. Thanks Tsongo for allowing my PM with the savegame. But I think that I cannot attach any file here. Anny suggestion?
matuto.. I checked into this and this is how it should work.. There's a conversation on the way to the city which says to go back away from the drow, you go back, another conversation fires and you make the golem disappear, then Kim and Simon volunteer to be slaves and your character is the boss, you return to the city with Kim and Simon dressed as slaves and should be let in when the guard talks to you.
Kim cannot be the slaver as it will not work as you cannot control an npc when your character is gone ( and the two slaves will leave ) so make sure it's your PC that isn't wearing the rags and the other two are.
With regards to the girl and the Orcs sorry but I haven't got a clue where this is and have no idea about how to fix it or whether you can return there. I can give you a code to clear it as if it's done but it's not really a satisfying outcome. As I said I haven't played this since I made it and that's a few years ago. I will have to soon but I'm busy remaking Serene and can't stop now as it's nearly done.
Sorry again but I don't know how you send a file either as I've never done it.
Hopefully you can get in the city with your "slaves" soon..
Thanks Tsongo. For any reason, perhaps due to the dialogue in the clearing, I've chosen Kim as the slayer. I will load a saved game before going to the city and the PC will be the slaver. Hopefully it works and will clarify the swapping thing. I will report the consequences.
Tsongo, Bingo ! Perhaps because it was Kim's idea and she was with the rags, I put her as the slaver instead of the PC. With the PC as the slaver, everything ran fine. The team is inside the city. Your credit telling me that the PC should be the slaver. So, many thanks and nevermind. The campaign until now is perfect and very amusing.
matuto.. Good to hear you're back on your way again and that you're enjoying yourself.. Happy travels !
Hi Tsongo, Finished yesterday. Congratulations, an outstanding campaign with a very interesting plot and creative alternatives. Few complaints: so many strong monsters and enemies, some respawning in the way back out, and very long dialogues. Kim's spells quickly run out due to so many enemies and she dies a lot. I didn't find any available cleric to enter into the party. By the way: how many henchmen are availabe and how many members can be added to the party? Anyway, a very good job and highly recommended. Nine stars. Thanks for your time and advise about your future mods/campaigns.
Just finished it yesterday, and it's really a campaign that is worth playing. Sure, it's somewhat linear, but the plot is so well polished that it all makes sense, and you don't really feel forced to follow the path.
Of course there are still a few typos (the usual ones: your/you're; its/it's; they're/their/there; wont/won't etc...) but with so many lines of dialog (vey funny by the way
) that's not surprising. And something I seldom saw: almost all the NPCs have something to say (even if it's only one line), and that's a really nice touch!
Two things I need to highlight though:
* in the drow city, it was almost impossible to enter the market (actually, even if the door is wide and tall, I had to click at the lower left part: all other tries did nothing).
* even for a 20th level monk, it was impossible to defeat the red dragon and the black monk master (on the other hand, I'm not too keen on creating items: maybe with better robes, belt etc...)
Good job Tsongo!
The first time I fought the evil boss monk it took at least four tries to beat him. Thing is I had never paid attention to monks before and didn't have an effective build. The second time I played this I beat him on the first or second try.
Not sure what happened with the dragon. Been too long since I played this but I don't recall having to fight him more that twice.
matuto..Good to hear that you finally made it and enjoyed yourself. I don't know what you mean about how many members can you add to the party this isn't a SoZ style thing where you make up your own party it's not possible and would mess it all up badly. Without your companions it wouldn't work and you saw what happened when you dressed up the wrong person so imagine what would happen if one was missing, please don't try it ! As for clerics there aren't any and I always used Kim as an archer when her spells ran out so she could still stay out of danger.
4760.. I'm very pleased to hear you had fun in your robes and you probably have the same silly sense of humour as me, some people get the hump and think mods should be totally serious all the time ! I also thank you on behalf of my npcs that you bothered to talk to and didn't treat as peasants to be ignored.
I'm going to play this when I finish Serene and I'll look into what you said about the bad baddies and evil drow entrance, at the moment I haven't really got a clue where to look as it's very big and confusing. I might give it a go without crafting too to see what the difference is and if it's a party massacre I'll throw in some extra items. If it's a quick fix I'll do it but I really can't face pulling this thing apart it would take about a year to go through it all !
Its great to see this module again! I remember playing it many years ago and it was the best fun I had with a neverwinter nights campaign! Are you making a new module if I can ask? I've loved every module you made so seing you post this and the remake of Serene makes me very exited!
Erzebeth351.. Thank you for being so happy about seeing my campaigns appear and I'm glad you enjoyed playing them. As for any new campaigns they take a very long time to make ( this was two years ) and I hadn't touched the toolset since making this until I decided Serene needed a makeover and I couldn't leave it as it was. I'm messing about with an idea for one at the moment but just in bits and pieces so don't know if it will happen yet. But all is not lost as I never knew where my stories were going, they all started like that until I got inspired by what could happen with the characters and the story then went all in making them.
One of my very favorite NWN campaigns, must have played more than a dozen times since locating it on the NEXUS, and I still find myself actually doing a LOL at the party banter dialog. I almost never play the evil side of anything, so this Epic adventure hits my playstyle perfectly. Dragons, damsels, and romance, nothing is left out.
ralebeau.. Thank you, I'm very pleased to hear you're still getting your robes on and saving the orange order, and the damsels in distress of course ! I played this recently, because I put it on here, as I couldn't remember what was going on when somebody had a problem and although I knew roughly what happened I surprised myself a few times. I'm fiddling about with a new mod at the moment which is a bit different but it's definitely got damsels in distress in it along with some very mismatched companions. No sign of dragons yet and they could be impossible to have.
You can always have a dragon make a cameo appearance to enquire whether anyone has seen Serene recently.
GCoyote... That appeals to my daft sense of humour so it could happen, but can the Great Pandalaram be persuaded is another question !
One thing that is more likely to happen is that the armour you pointed me to is going to make an appearance now it lives in my override and can't be moved in case it wrecks the others.
