The Witcher (Custom-) Slyzard for NWN2 (LOD included)
No number behind "The Witcher"? “Custom”? Well, please read on! :-)
Now this was some kind of project! Dark (member of the NWN2 Neverwitcher-project) tempted me on this one! A base problem was, that, at that time, none of us had access to a Witcher 3 Slyzard model and so I decided to try to tweak the Witcher 1 Wiver model into a Slyzard…
It started with Dark de-saturating the original red Wiver texture to be very pale. A good start, but that alone was not enough Slyzard-like. Luckily Dark found a Witcher 3 texture from a Forktail, so I could copy over and work in the skin parts of the wings. And I started to reshape the tail and the head and added some new teeth.
But the Slyzard-skin was still missing details, like the rough scales and the enormous veins. I couldn’t really find any working picture, where I could copy over these details, so I actually decided to fire up the PS of my son and replayed a sequence with a Slyzard-fight. While doing so, I took screenshots... And the I used these screenshots to copy over and work in some details into the texture. That was an interesting task!
The spikes of the Wiver didn’t fit either. I replaced them and also used some screenshot of the spikes as texture-base.
So I slowly got to the point, where “my” tweaked Wiver looked something like a Slyzard. :-)
Next problem, which arouse was, that the Witcher 1 Wiver did not have the same base-shape/pose as the NWN2-Wyvern and it is the NWN2-Wyvern-skel, which does the animations and thus is the one for the rig. I had to do some tweaking until the NWN2 animations would work with “my” mesh. They did but not the death animations! I didn’t want to “miss-shape” the mesh anymore, so I decided to tweak the NWN2-wyver death animations c_wyvern_death01.gr2 and c_wyvern_death02.gr2. This was also new to me and thus quiet challenging! With some community help I finally made it and learned a lot! Thanks to all who helped!
So, if you’re going to use this Slyzard, be ware, that it uses the NWN2-Wyvern animations AND OVERRIDES the death animations. So you can’t use “my” Slyzard model together with a NWN2-Wyvern at the same time / in one module at this point!
So, as you can read, this is something between a conversion and a custom model and thus a compromise between the Wither 1 Wivern and a Witcher 3 Slyzard. :-)
