This simple mod replaces the standard mage armor effect (which often causes frames to drop, especially when stacked with other buffs) with a simple model. Here's a video. It works pretty well for humans and elfs - a little less for other races.
Enjoy ;-)

Wow ! It makes me think to Saint Seiya ^^
I feel the other way then Lilura.. I miss the BG1 / BG2 styles where every spell could easily be seen.
Yay, no more mini-lag :) Thanks!
Great fix man. Just to let everyone else know though, this upgrade and the ones for Shield/Shades/Shadow Shield can be a little buggy. For example, Mage Armor, Improved Mage Armor, and Mage Armor cast from Shadow Conjuration all key off of this mod (which is great). However, it will crash your game if you cast it on non-humanoid critters. You CAN pre-cast it on yourself (for example) and then change shape (like a Druid Wildshape) which is fine (if a little buggy on where it keeps the visual on you).
I have yet to test this on a Druid with Wildshape + Natural Spell who shifts shape, and THEN casts it on themselves. I assume it will crash as well. Also, same issue with Shield/Shades/Shadow Shield (sort of). I liked the new look for your Shades file so I used it on Bless, which gave the visual to me and my team. If any of the "team" was a critter, it crashed the system. I assume that the graphics for your SHIELD and Shadow Shield would have the same issue. Best suggestion I have is to ONLY use these new visuals with CASTER ONLY spells (like Shadow Shield or Shades). OR, you can just make sure to NOT cast these on pets/critter forms. I COULD pre-cast them on my wizard and then use the Polymorph Self or Shapechange spell and it was fine, if not a little weird where the effect landed on the form. Still, great work and I am happy to look at more man. You ideas rule. Please keep them coming.
Side note: does anyone have a list of the sef files you can change graphics for? I am doing my best to put a list together but there are several spells that just don't seem to have a "typical" sp_NAMEOFSPELL.sef format. Just FYI, I settled on keeping SHADES as normal, but took your effect and renamed it sp_divine_favor.sef so the golden back arcane disc is on me when I use divine favor now :)
Thanks for the feedback! It's much appreciated - HOWEVER: I just tested all the spells you listed and didn't get any crashes. Shapechange, wildshape and casting the spell on an animal companion didn't break the game. It doesn' look good (mage armor on a badger looks retarded af), but that's it. I really have no idea what is the reason for your problemds :-/
I thought of a solution for you: edit the spell script so that it applies the modded effects for humanoids only and some other effect for the critters. If you don't know how to do it hit me up on a private message ;-)
You know what... I actually know why it crashes :D it's probably completely irrelevant now, but just today I noticed some animal skeletons have different names for standard attachment points - for example ap_torso1 instead of ap_torso... Just a hint for future animators ;-)
With this addition, it just feels more like than Saint Seiya ^^
Nice idea
very interesting! lol!
