Placeable Upgrade System V1.0
This script is the result of something I've been working on for
"The Avid and Apathy", where I wanted players to be able to
"upgrade" their secret hideout with better furniture as an incentive
to earn more money, yet still make the scene dressing in the area
as detailed as possible, down to food on people's dinner plates.
This new placeable generation system allows just that, and most
of the work simply goes into placing the objects in the toolset.
I'm hoping other mod authors can find a use for this, especially
PW creators who can now give players customizable homes.
The greatest benefit to using this system over simply spawning
placeables onto waypoints is that the exact locations and orientations
of each placeable are stored, meaning you can generate intricately
detailed scenes such as a cluttered dinner table simply by placing
the objects where you want them to spawn within the toolset.
Also, the entire thing is handled by a single waypoint and script,
meaning you don't have to create waypoints for every single object
you want spawned.
There are two usable functions:
SetupFurniture: Searches each zone waypoint in an area,
removes all placeables that are not set
to the default nLevel, and records their
positions for later. This function should
only be used once per area.
UpgradeFurniture: using the provided parameters, this looks
for the correct zone waypoint, deletes all
placeables from the previous level, and
creates new placeables for the new level.
Can be used as many times as necessary, but
nLevel should never return to the default value.
The download includes an ERF, Readme file and a demo module.
Builders should check out the demo module in the Toolset to see how to
set up placeables to be upgraded.
Overall the system is pretty efficient, though users may experience slowdowns if the
designated zones have too many placeables in them (>100) or if there are many zones
in a single area when SetupFurniture runs.
