TR's Basics - Decisions

In this pdf document I deal with those constructs that are used for making decisions. That is those constructs that have the keywords if, switch, while and for. This document is intended as a tutorial. It is aimed at anyone who needs to know what is contained within it, but mostly absolute beginners to writing scripts for NwN. Here in the U.K. there is an old saying “A picture is worth a thousand words”. Therefore this tutorial uses diagrams to illustrate what I am describing. These diagrams are based on, but do not necessarily, strictly follow the rules of, flowcharts.

 

In addition to the diagrams there are both written descriptions and illustrative code snippets. As part of this tutorial I have devised a simple practical method to illustrate how each of these constructs work. This requires the reader to create the simplest of modules into which tiny scripts are to be added by the reader at the appropriate time.

 

I have also included a "Tips" section at the end to hopefully speed the reader on their way into the world of scripting.

 

This tutorial (including the tips section and illustrations) runs to 36 pages in length.

 

I hope that people find this useful.
