Basically an attempt to create bigger GUI.
There will be only 2 versions of this modification, for 1920x1080 and 1366x768 resolutions. If you are using another resolution, try to play in windowed mode.

time bandit, thanks buddy
As a pre-alpha, I like what you done so far. A version that keeps the talk bar would be appreciated.
I really like this idea. ALOT. I tested it out and I too would like to request a version with the Talk bar (at least for multiplayer) since you can still hit the enter key and type, but not really see what you're going to display until it is up on screen. From my perspective only, I guess I'd rather only have the conversation window and text resized, and maybe the chat window text resized - but not that stuff at the bottom of the character sheet. But I suppose the font in one is somehow linked to the other area?
This is partly because one bug I found is that when you bring up the character sheet when a conversation is open, the character sheet on the right-hand side of the screen cannot be closed since it is also resized due to the large font at the bottom. You either need to get out of the conversation or hit the C button. As comparison, bringing up the Inventory screen of a PC does not resize and can be closed using the close button with the conversation still open.
As a minor issue - when High Resolution Font is turned on, the nice big font you have does not display, although the conversation window does stay nicely resized. Maybe just a note that people should turn off high resolution font, unless that can also be addressed through your GUI changes?
Thanks for this. It looks like the start to a very promising project!

- Yes, character's sheet page uses the same font as dialog's or chat's window, so it's either that or you won't be seeing any description text at all.

- Since this is an early version, i don't have many ideas about it, maybe another close button on the left side.

A small update. Talk button has been fixed (watch last screen), but i had to move out hotkey panel. It's just not enough space for it. Probably will place it back in some time.
As a man with eye problems, I support this mod. Yes, it's much better to read now. Thanks!
P.S. I found that when creating or choosing a character during module entering, some text is appearing outside the bar. My resolution is 1920x1080.
Ignore - wrong project :(
GoodLuc, If you're talking about character's sheet tab - it will be fixed, if not - post a screenshot please.
So I heard good things about playing neverwinter with some friends, as it's free at the moment on GoG I figured I'd be able to actually stand a chance of getting some together (yet to see if it's been fruitful). Anyway, one of my biggest pet peeves is small text in games, I play in a laptop with a 15" screen so it can be a nightmare. I tried a bunch of big text mods and stuff none of which seemed to change it enough, some other GUI one, which changed the asthetic but not the size enough (mainly from threads I found by googling) ... then when searching on this site specifically (as it didn't seem to be just dead links like most) then came across this one ... and my lord does it work an absolute treat.
I've just got one issue though. I play at 1920x1080 and some things are then moved around a bit awkwardly. I got a nice tip in the chat from someone called niv to run it in window mode and use your 1280x1024 resolution and that works. However, it's not making the best use of some already fairly limited screen space. I'll include a screenshot, but was wondering if there were some simple values in those files to change that control the x,y co-ordinates of the HotKey bar and chat window. I fear there might not be because as you mentioned the compass has disappeared off somewhere and you are aware of that and so I'm guessing moving bits around is far from simple. Anyway, this is what my screen looks like: http://imgur.com/a/Kl7ax. (I'm not running any other mods or GUI stuff or anything).
Edit: So things get even more screwed up if you're using multiplayer because of the extra window.
This is 1900 x 1080: http://imgur.com/a/QUvOX so the hotbar is is the wrong place (like single player, above) but the 2 chat window things are shoved on the left.
This is 1280 x 1024 (windowed): http://imgur.com/a/nInS6 which works in single player (hotbar in the right place) but suffers the same issue with the 2 windows.
Very nice start!
Although one problem with me.
Chat is overlapping the hotbars.

i am at 2048x1152 res
Ok temp solution is to remove pnl_quick_bar.mdl
it will move quick bar to default bottom and prevent overlapping
Okay, let me tell you what the situation is...That idiot (me) thought that no matter what resolution you're playing with, the game itself will resize everything in gui to selected resolution. Sadly it will not. So, a different resolution requires different files, which is not a problem. The problem is - my max resolution is 1280x1024 so, I can not create a 1920x1080 version with this monitor. On the other hand creating 1280x1024 version is also a bad idea I think because it's almost unused resolution right now. The only option I see is to purchase a new monitor which I kind of planned to buy but, I am not sure how long that will take, so until then i have to freeze the project. Sorry...
It is alright! one can live when restored default bar.
I delayed playing this game for years , simply because my eyes hurt badly from small fonts. You changed rest of GUI good enough to fit all big fonts.
There are few minor bugs but not heartbreaking. Its better then default small.
The only thing that really needs change but it doesnt seem possible, is to make chat font and names on characters smaller. But it seems that they use the same size as rest of ui
Well I still find using your mod makes the game far more playable than without it (or with any other mod) so I'll continue to use it in it's current state. Like the other person mentioned deleting pnl_quick_bar.mdl means that at other resolutions the hotbar isn't in the middle of the screen (though it looked better as 2 lines how you had it, and made the order of things I put in there make more sense than it does now). I also found deleteing edit_chat_main.mdl would then left align the chat box again (though it only covers less than a half of the width of the screen). Also deleting the pnl_compass.mdl returns the compass to the screen, not that I use it really.
I haven't found anyway of stopping the chat window getting horribly compressed to the side as the second chat window is present when playing a multiplayer game (and as I mentioned in my earlier comment, this happens in the resolution you designed it at too though). But I'll have to live with it, once my friends get up and running we'll probably just use voicecomms hopefully.
While I find this overkill for me, I have grabbed your:
pnl_dialog.mdl
ct_dialog*
I just want a bigger dialog box.
How did you build these? Do you need special tools? I see 3dsMax mentioned in the source files.
These are bigger than I want them (I am sticking with the standard high res font). I would like something halfway between the original size, and what you did.
Even though this isn't quite right for me, I applaud the effort.
Just 3ds max & nwmax script.
Thanks for the info. It seems strange that you need 3d modelling software to make a dialog box.
I don't think I will be buying and learning to use 3Ds max.
Added version for 1366x768 resolution. Did not test it too much so, expect the unexpected...
THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!! Playing this game at 1842 x 1036 with the tiny text was KILLING my eyeballs. This is a true life-saver! @Blake
A very helpful mod - couldn't sensibly move to 1080 without it.
To avoid clutter in my override folder, I made this into a patch hak. The only tweak required was to convert the textures to dds (for some reason, I find that tga files generally don't work in patch haks). That's one batch command using the dds tool, so no big deal.
To be very picky, the text isn't always centred vertically - for example, in the initial New / Load / Multiplayer... screen.
The text is centering depending on the font size, making it impossible to fit all 3 font sizes correctly so, in the future versions there will be one font size only (probably medium). Making this as a .hak also a good idea.
10 for encouragement and the work you've done so far. Some ideas for your mod.
Grab the 2.0 version if you dare
Hey Blake, first of all thanks for your work, but is there a way to change the font itself? I want to play in German, but several letters are missing or are replaced. I think, by changing the font to another would solve this issue.
Check the 2.1 version. I've updated the fonts so they contain all of the default nwn letters.
*added russian fonts
I have some questions/ideas, if you don't mind:
1. GFFEditor
2. I wasn't looking for this particular question but if it wasn't complemented in the original game, I don't think that's feasible.
3. Mod supports 2 resolutions, for full compatibility - you should play with these resolutions in windowed mode
Thanks a lot for this. Makes much easier to play
This is absolutly amazing! My players thank you a lot!!!
Just a question: in the quickbar, the hotkey numbers are not presents. As a DM I use this alot, and I wish to know if I you think can modify the model and if I kindly ask you were I shall do this.
Again, amazing work and thanks from all the oldest players in my server ;)
https://files.fm/f/qdxdv3w8
Here are the files you need. I configured them to show hotkeys correctly on 1080 version of the mod. If you use 768 version, you can manually edit them with notepad. You can find this block at each file:
node dummy text
position 0.05 0.04 0.4
Just edit first 2 numbers which represent x-y coordinates.
Put those files in the "override" folder if you use the override version or paste them inside the .hak file.
Also, the text will probably overlap while using shift/ctrl combination (that's why I hid them). If you need to fix this, let me know, I'll help you.
Many Thanks (and sorry for the so late answer)!
I got another issue: I'm only playing multiplayer and my players needs the compass. I'll start searching, but is there a major issue on this one?Edit: by a quick search in this thread, I've seen the pnl_compass.mdl. I assume you remove it because it is ovverding the last F12 quickslot and I guess it is not possible to modify the axis to have it elsewhere.
I'll see with the player how to bypass it without any technical approach.
Again, many thanks for this incredible work.
Best regards,
Zul
Hello. First of all, thank you for this mod, it really enhances the experience a lot.
The only problem I've found so far is that feat/spell selection screen is out of alignment in 768 version, which makes it unusable on starting new character/leveling up. Example: https://imgur.com/Euydg0f. Any help?
Thanks in advance
The available feat/spell buttons are indeed broken but the right window shoudn't look like that. Please check if you installed all files correctly and let me know if the problem with the right window still exists. I'll fix the buttons right after that.
Yeah sorry, I guess that was some leftover from experimenting with combining 1080 and 768p versions trying to fix it. This is a clean one https://imgur.com/a/1w8lSzQ.
Thanks
Check the fix I uploaded, it should repair the buttons.
Working fine now. Thanks again for help.
The fonts are huge. Even at 2560x1440p. Is there a way to get the original font a bit bigger without changing the windows and hotkey bars around?
Try using fonts from 768p version, they are the smallest one.
For some reason, the 1080p version does not allow me to select any of the races during character creation. The sub-race button works fine, but not the rest, so by default I have to play as human. All the other buttons for classes, skills, etc.. work fine.
If you're using EE version - some parts from the mod might not work correctly. It's intended for the original NWN
Hello, when I click in the chat bar after writing some text, instead of positionning the cursor in the text where I clicked, it opens the chat selection mode (group, shout etc..), this is annoying, I use the french version of NwN Enhanced Edition, is it possible to have a fix please ? Thanks, great job Blake !
what resolution version are you using?
1920x1080 UI scale 1 Enhanced Edition, and it's impossible to write a too long text, the chat box where I write is limited in letters, I can't write long sentences at once. And the list of players in multiplayers servers doens't show the names of players, and some new options of the EE doesn't appears. All this problems because it's the enhanced edition I think, is there a way to have a fix please ? Thanks !
This mod is not supported for EE, at least by me. As for problems you described - the letters limitation is set by the game itself. You could try using smaller font to be able to write more. As for chat panel glitch - try 2.1.1 version I just uploaded, should fix the problem.
How can I change the font for a smaller/different one please ?
Edit : I tried whith NWN Font maker with no result, I created 2 new files fnt_dialog16x16.tga and fnt_dialog16x16.txi and replace the other ones in the override but there is no text at all in game after this. I've tried with the fonts Georgia and Century size 16, doesn't work.
