Description | |
This is my rendition of the classic PnP mod X2 Castle Amber. It's my first attempt at mod building and encompasses the Castle section of the adventure only. The outdoor section "The Province of Averoigne" is currently under construction. Any feedback is appreciated. I used custom content from the vault. Please see the text file for the credits. Requires all expansions and CEP 2. |

This has to be the most perfect conversion of Castle Amber for Neverwinter Nights so far! I've played all the previous versions, and this one was the only one of the lot to truly capture what was in the original pnp version of the story. I was somewhat disappointed when I got to the gate of the silver key and it didn't lead to the realm of Averoigne, but I knew it wouldn't having read the module's description after all. I'm glad there wasn't an attempt to make an abbreviated, truncated ending though by having the crypt at the end of the main quest be accessed by some other means than was in the original story. I played one version where they had it that each member of the Amber family had a key and each key unlocked the crypt when used on it. It provided closure, but it wasn't faithful to the pnp module in any way. While yes, it was rather disappointing to not have closure at the end of this module, it was understandable given this is only part one, and that there is no part two. I love all the Mystara classic pnp D&D modules, but of them all Castle Amber was always my absolute favorite! Considering just HOW faithful this was to it, I gave this an honest vote of 10. No serious bugs, good gameplay, easy to follow plot if you're familiar with the story, and pretty much everything that should be there. And best of all... no inappropriate follower names. I played one Castle Amber module for Nwn that had an NPC named after a sex toy. Very odd choice, that! Nothing weird like that in this one. If you're a fan of classic D&D like I am, you'll love this excellent module. Just remember, you won't get an actual ending here!
I'm checking this out beause castle amber was my favorite PNP module. The Clark Ashton Smith stories that Averoigne is derived from are also a great resource (9). I have a different copy than those at that link, but the PDF still has most of the stories I remember and are used by the module.
How do we finish the mod?
Nice work. I was amazed at all the family members polling up everywhere! Too bad I lost my little buddy...
