To travel to the next area, cross the (NW) bridge and make a sharp right away from the road to the transition point (east side of map, near mine). the transition point is in the top right corner, north of the river.
Even in Debug mode it doesn't show where the (apparently small) transition area from the starting area to the hills (next area) is located (usaully by blue colored area) SO even if you are in the river east of the bridge, you can't travel to the hills
Solution to invisible transition is to use WSAD keys to steer character. The transistion needs to be there though.
An okay mod with the old henchperson interface, meaning it is not good! All seemed to work however and I was able to see the transition mentioned above as a blue area, per the usual. Not the toughest monsters around, and a bit disappointing as it ends abruptly.
