Hell yeah Swordflight is back! Got my ass kicked multiple times in the first encounter and looking forward to more difficult combat. Will add a rating once I play through this chapter.
OMG. That's my life on hold for days .
It's finally here! I'm currently at Chapter 4 and I can't wait to play this and I'm sure this is going to be as epic as all the previous chapters. Thank you again rogueknight for all the work you've done! I consider this an early Christmas present! :D
In that case, Merry Christmas, everyone!
How long to chapter 6?
I am working on Ch. 6 but it will not be done any time soon, unfortunately. I cannot give a very reliable ETA since progress depends on many unpredicatable factors such as how much time to work on it RL leaves me, how inspired and efficient I end up being when actually working on it, how smoothly play-testing goes and whetther it indicates the need for significant revisions, and so forth. Most likely it will take another couple years or so.
Oh my! That the best present for me right now! Hurray! Rogueknight your modules are awesome! Can't wait to play chapter 5!
Upd.: Oh, that BG saga refferences... just goosebumps :)
OMG! And about 35 hours to boot! Just beautiful, thank you!
Impressive, I wasn't sure if it would come out this year.
Is this version a beta or a complete release?
It is not a beta, but the official release. Though inevitably some bugs will be found necessitating revisions at some point.
Nice job, congrats on official release then!
Will Swordflight 6 be the last one of the series?
Chapter 6 will be the last one in the series, yes.
Oh, early Christmas gift!
Well met.
The legendary story continues. Amazing. Many thanks for the huge amount of time you put into the epic series.

Phyte: My heart has been locked for longer than I can remember.
Sharwyn: Done, and done.

Thank you rogueknight333! I promised trying out Birger's modules first this month though so that might give enough time for a first patch maybe, win win ;-)
Now what a coincidence! I am not far from finishing chapter 4; sadly not able to play 5 before January, but still wonderfull news. Thanks so much, rogueknight! Absolutely looking forward to this.
Thanks.
Is this the final episode?
No, there is still one additional chapter to come.
Thank you for the release.
I have a question about vendor prices, do you set these? Or does the game have an innate sell value for every effect the weapon has?
Got my hands on an orc whip that I couldn't equip with 50UMD.
Very confused by this I sold it to the vendor to check the price and to know what UMD range this whip is in.
It came out over 7 million gold = 85UMD that's not even possible to hit I think.
Is this intended to be a unique reward only wieldable by gigachad orc players?
The base price of an item is automatically set by the game depending on what magical properties the item has. Some properties, such as the ability to cast some spells or inflict on-hit effects, provide a monetary value vastly out or proportion to their actual value. The actual sale price of an item can be controlled to some extent by the module builder by setting merchants to buy them for a customized percentage of their base value, but this would not affect UMD.
The weapons attainable there are primarily intended for half-orcs, but at least some of them would be usable with enough UMD as well, I believe. I tend to give whips a lot of special properties because the base weapon is not very good, and I guess it drove the base value up quite a bit in that case.
I'm definitely playing it!! There are still some chapters left right rogueknight?
There is one more chapter still to come which will complete this series.
Awwww sweet damn, timing couldn't be better. About to attempt my escape from the Underdark, so I'm assuming C4 is almost done for me.
I'm curious, any thoughts on what you'll do once you finish Chapter 6? Any ideas for new modules, or do you think you'll retire?
Thanks for all the hard work, can't imagine it's been a breezy sunday R&R project
I have only vague ideas about what I will do after completing Ch. 6. Needless to say, finally completing this series, if I ever actually do so, will free up a lot of my time. I find I rather enjoy designing RPG campaigns so I will probably attempt to continue doing that one way or another. Perhaps that will mean further NWN modules, or perhaps I will attempt making mods for some other game.
Glad you enjoy it, cause you sure are good at it! So on that tip, it's nice to hear that you reckon you want to continue doing so. NWNs gameplay remains my favorite throughout all the RPGs I've played, so if I find a new module from you a decade from now I'll be thrilled. Again, thanks for the hard work!
Maybe you can pick up the 3rd in the Twilight/Midnight series that was never finished. I think it would have been called "Dawn."
Swordflight chapter 5 is here? 2022 is saved!
I cannot wait to get home and download this. I have been looking forward to this next chapter for so long! Thanks for all the hard work rogueknight333!

Taking 50+ damage per round when polymorphed in dead magic zone, you are evil.
What an awesome news! It's time to return to my most favourite modules!
I wonder if all the parts of the series are playable under NWN EE though, remember having issues in part 2
Unfortunately, EE introduced a lot of potential bugs, so playing in EE will definitely increase the probability of running into one.
I've been playing part 1,2,3,4 in EE and had but one bug(Death Knight related, fixed by a reload.)
I ended up creating an account to voice my enjoyment of this series of modules. I have a friend who DMs a group, and I recommended to him that he play the series, and convert it for his group to play. I think it would work really well for a party to play, with the DM playing as our favorite bard. IMO this is better than many games that I have paid money for.
I am playing with EE, and have run into no game stopping bugs in any of the modules thus far.
I did want to ask about the economy. Is it intentional that many merchants won't purchase ammunition? I have a surplus, and all the merchants who buy it have already run out of cash. As you know, all adventures are kleptomaniacs, so I grab every piece of loot I can. One of my nitpicks with this series of modules is the very limited amount of gold merchants have. Would you consider increasing the gold cap? I have purchased everything I need, a lot of extra consumables, and filled bags of holding with expensive healing potions in order to alieviate this problem, but I always empty out everyone's bank accounts. This makes sense in Chapter 1, given the situation. However, I find it breaks my suspension of disbelief when a single adventurer hauls in enough stuff to clear out every merchant in a large city. In my first playthrough (long lost to time) I ended chapters with bags filled with gems and scrolls because I had nobody to sell to.
I understand the economy is a large part of balance, and I expect we will return to a special (very expensive) store in chapter 6. I had an idea for a possible massive gold sink in the final part. I am on my first playthrough, and am only in the lair of the first dragon now, so I don't know if there is something like this in chapter 5. I really like the planewalking you liberally use, since it adds to the "epic adventure" atmosphere. Since the BBEG is a powerful outsider, it would make sense that he has a LOT of enemies throughout the planes, across various alignments. It would be interesting/reasonable if we get contacted by a powerful outsider looking to stop the BBEG. The PC has reached high epic levels, and is someone that attracts the attention of major players in the multiverse. I could imagine some interaction, and some bargaining for favors and assistance. One favor could be the crafting of a minor artifact of some type. This would be paid for with a massive amount of gold (hundreds of thousands per enchantment). This would act as a gold sink, and grant a large amount of personal satisfaction with hoarding enough gold to impress Tiamat. As it stands, I generally end modules (not just yours) with so much money that it doesn't have any meaning anymore.
The conbat is difficult, and I would recommend anyone looking to play plan out their build to level 40. I enjoy it for the same reason I like Dark Souls. The game creator treats me as an adult, and expects me to adapt/learn in order to advance, as compared to smashing my face against a wall.
In the previous chapters, I enjoyed the conversations with Zarala. However, by chapter 3, she has quieted down. I don't expect long JRPG dialogs every 5 minutes, but a handful of dialogs throughout the module would help Zarala feel more alive, and less as a plot device. The PC and her have traveled together for months, and it would be interesting to talk with her about things like her plans for after the current events are finished.
You have great module design, and I hope you keep us informed here if you continue creating content. In NWN or elsewhere, because I think your skill with game creation is worth it
Thanks for the praise of the series, Black Swordsman.
Most merchants not buying ammunition is intentional, as the high level arrows found in this module could otherwise completely break the economy otherwise. A somewhat clumsy method, perhaps, but I did not fully realize the issue until rather late in the building process unfortunately.
To my mind, it is unrealistic to expect merchants to have unlimited quantities of gold (if they really had infinite gold they would hardly have to waste their time selling stuff to get more), and it seems quite possible that a very rare and extremely valuable magical item would have a market price many would not be able to afford. In any case limiting the resources available to players is necessary for balancing reasons. There are definitely a number of big gold sinks throughout the series, but if you are very good at making money you can expect to have some excess, since I have to allow for less skilled players.
Thanks for the quick reply. I wasn't asking for unlimited gold at all merchants, but simply if you consider increasing how much gold merchants had available. I don't have any issue with limited gold, just with emptying the wallets of every single merchant a city like Calimport. Obviously, you need to consider that not everyone will search every nook and crany for loot
Looking forward to chapter 6
For what it's worth, there's at least five merchants accessible to everyone early on and a few more merchants discoverable a bit later in the module. You can expect to wind up with tons of unsold ammo (like Rogueknight said, it would break the economy if merchants bought it due to ranged weapon weirdness in NWN) but can almost certainly sell everything else unless you have crazy high appraise and an extremely powerful character.
Is it possible to set the sell price of a full stack ammunition to 0GP or 1GP? It would be better to get rid of excessive ammunitions from previous chapters in my inventory quicker than dropping them.
Theoretically, I could have set up a special merchant that buys and sells only ammunition at a very reduced price. That, among other possibilities might have been a better way to address the issue than what I did, which was a somewhat ad hoc approach. As things stand, players who are not actually using ammunition might be well advised to just not bother collecting it, but unfortunatley most adventurers are such pack rats I expect they will not find it easy to do so.
Late to the party, as I've just fought the dragon (BG3 came out and intervened, sue me) and I have to admit this realistic way of dealing with the economy is killing my inventory management. I have 6 magic bags and one true Bag of Holding and inventories of all 3 characters are pretty loaded up because I've sold everything I can, resupplying with mainly tons of the custom healing potion. I didn't see that there was a way you could just unload stuff---if you sleep in the inn and unload there, doesn't your stuff get put out of the room at the 24 hour mark? I don't want to just drop all this stuff I want but have no immediate use for, and when we lose Garad, a fair bit of loot will go with him if I can't fix this. I have been picking up all the lower end equipment like +1 and +2 weapons and armor, and maybe that's a mistake, but the habit of looting everything is just so ingrained, and I'm greedy! Plus the lower end items are things the merchants are likely to be able to afford. It seems like the merchants don't get their gold resupplied after 24 hours as in some of the Elder Scrolls games. This tweak would help a little. It's amusing that the Temple has lots of gold but I've been able to sell practically nothing to the weapon merchant.
By this point in the series you really should have a lot more than 6 magic bags. To be sure even if you did, there can still be a lot of clutter if you insist on collecting everything. You can unload stuff in the inn room, though. You might get temporarily locked out but you can just purchase the room again to regain access. If you do not want to go to the trouble of doing that, you can unload stuff you are not actually using in any of a number of containers found around the town. You also are not going to be losing Garad, at least not in this chapter (to the regret of some players, as they have not all found him very likable).
Thank you rogueknight333 for making and releasing Chapter 5! I noticed Zarala is Chaotic Neutral (0, 52) when she rejoined me. I checked my last save in Chapter 4 and she was Chaotic Good (0, 85). Is this a bug or is it intended?
Thank you.
Not intended, she should carry over her alignment from the last module. This could have happened because:
1) you failed to preserve your database from previous modules (e.g., you may have neglected to copy it over to the new database folder if you made a new NWN installation)
2) if you switched over to EE at some point, you would lose the database info since unfortunately databases from Diamond are apparently not compatible with EE. I just found this out recently myself, so I may come up with a workaround at some point, but for now it could be a problem.
In theory could he move his chapter 4 save file over to EE and end it there, which might export the data for use in chapter 5?
That should work, if you have a save file from Ch. 4 at or near the end of the module.
I use NWN Diamond. I was sure I made a backup of my saves including the database folder before I reinstalled Win10. Apparently I didn't, go figure. I did as you explained and reloaded my last save before the end of Chap 4 and exported my character. Zarala is now Chaotic Good...and with all the inventory stuff I gave her. Thank you Balkoth and rogueknight333!
Hello rogueknight,
first off, thanks so much for SF chapter 5. 4 was a bit difficult for me, 5 so far is a lot smoother sailing. Your dialogues and the setup/premise of the chapter are excellent as usual.
[!!! Read EDIT at the end first! My problem is solved.]
Sadly I have run into some serious issues in Naskel - maybe you can provide some help. I just came back from my second bounty mission (Kadigar's head in my backpack) after having done the bard class quest (the mage who fled to the crypt and then to the outer planes) first. When I arrived back in Nashkel from the Kadigar mission Oublek was nowhere to be found. He had just disappeared. So I went to the Inn, thought maybe he reappears after a good night of sleep. In the Inn all NPCs were gone, the two drunk guys, the cook, except for the barkeep/landlord where I did rent a room. On the next morning Oublek was still gone; nowhere to be found where the map marker indicates him to be. With Oublek gone turning in quests is impossible, I guess. As a note: all other important characters (merchants) are there, but, e.g. the military bastion(?) officer in the building next to Oublek's position is also missing.
Any advice? Thank you a lot!
EDIT: Hurray! After I restarted the game today, all missing characters have reappeared! Something with the scripts(?) was going on yesterday, even reloading savegames didn't help - but restarting the game. Strange, but everything is working again.
On rare occasions the NWN engine fails to display creatures properly, though in my experience this has only happened with creatures spawned by some script, not pre-placed creatures, and usually only in combat, so not being able to see Oubleek and the officer is odd. Saving and reloading can often fix the issue, if this is the same thing. Using override content with out of date 2da files can also cause similar issues, but in that case it should have persisted regardless of any reload/restart.
I cleaned all HAKs, MODs etc. plus the override folder and have a fresh install of Swordflight (all chapters) on my Steam EE version. Maybe it has to do with Beamdog having caused some new issues compared to Diamond? Doesn't matter. The strange thing is it needed a game restart, which is not really to explain tech wise.
By the way, chapter 5 seems to be a lot better in terms of trashmob scaling compared to chapter 4. My impressions are solely from the first three missions though, so I might give aditional feedback later. Very fun to play so far, thanks a lot! (Loved the first long dialogue sequence with a guy I was sure to be dead after getting on my nerves in BG. ;-) Must have been revived by an EXTREMELY evil priest.)
PS: How do you rate/vote for the module? Can't find the option.
