SOUL SHAKERLATEST NEWS: Soul Shaker has been revamped! V2.00 of Soul Shaker is now available, with fixes alongside code improvements. (Earlier versions of Soul Shaker prior v2.00E are NOT compatible with this latest revamped version.) For further Info: http://worldofalthea.blogspot.com/2020/06/episode-32-shaken-to-core-file... EE VERSION UPDATE: Soul Shaker has now been updated to work on EE version of NWN1. Please report if any issues remain, and I will address them as soon as possible. OTHER HAKS: Make sure Soul Shaker starts without using any haks before attemtping to add any. Use 3rd party haks at own risk, and be ready to remove if you experience any adverse effects. Some have been reported to crash the game. You finally defeated the lich of the ancient tower, driving it back to its demi-plane. Now, hopefully, you can find and rescue Terrell, the wizard that the lich had taken prisoner; for he must be somewhere in the tower, you think. Then you enter a small round chamber, with chairs circling a round table, and there, in one of them, is the emaciated body of Terrell, the man you had been seeking all this time. At first glance, he looks dead, but then you realise he still lives! Then, in your mind, you hear his voice ... he still lives and is communicating with you by telepathy! But what he has to say is not comforting ... He explains his soul has been separated from his body and is trapped on another dimension ... the same dimension as where you had just banished the lich! So now, the search and chase must continue, but this time within the demi-plane of the lich itself, in Dagad-Nor! Dealing With The Watchers Video ... "Soul Shaker Alarm System" ..... https://youtu.be/JgQGMACjaag (link is external) SET WITHIN A DEMI-PLANE: I have stressed this in the past, but will do so again now: This is a very different module from anything you will have played before. It is not a standard NWN game, as the module takes place upon a demi-plane, so I have taken liberty with the mechanics of NWN. This makes for a very challenging experience, which may not appeal to everybody, but I hope will appeal to the majority. NB: If you are looking for a more traditional D&D module and have access to NWN2 (with both expansions), then I would encourage you to consider trying my NWN2 module, The Scroll, available here: https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn2/module/scroll IN GAME FEATURES:a) Voice acting. (Not all characters.) (NB: Text is shown inside the MESSAGE sub-menu on a replay of the message.) PATCHINGIf you have already started Soul Shaker, then you can update to a later version and continue playing from where you currently are. YOU DO NOT NEED TO START AGAIN! |

Hi All,
I thought I would start a post here in anticipation of a v2.00 release of Soul Shaker. Ths post will record all changes and fixes for v2.00 and beyond, all the while it requires support. A number of years have passed since I last updated this module, but as things have changed, including my scripting skills, I thought I would give this module some TLC and bring it more up to date and more user-friendly than it was at first release. That said, it may still be a tough mod for some players, so be warned! Without further ado, here is the latest ...

Any news on how the updated version is doing and (if possible) an estimate on a release date?
Hi Artham,
What timing!
As you can see, I uploaded the module yesterday, the day after your post. :)
Let me know if you manage to play it and have any difficulties, or things that may need addressing.
Thanks, Lance.
Wow, that sure was a coincidence with me posting right before you released it!
Nice job :)
Hi Artham,
It certainly was!
Let me know if you have any issues - Although I am not expecting any now, as my wife has played it through at least four times, and I believe I have sorted everything.
I hope you enjoy the style.
EDIT: Be sure to read the Walkthrough if you get stuck. There is one section where you need to be aware of "secrets", which (if you miss) is clearly explained in the walkthrough.
Lance.
Hi Lance! Very interesting module, I'm probably going to give it a go soonish when I'm done with Tortured Hearts. I'll also do a YouTube Let's Play for it as well for my new channel. I did load it up quickly on Android and saw a lot of UNRECOGNIZED TOKEN where i assume the charname should be. is this a little bug on the Android version?
Also, will a level 16ish PC make the game considerably easier?
kind regards, Fluent
Hi Fluent,
Thanks for showing an interest. I will be very interested in any feedback you have for me.
Sadly, I am not sure it will work on an Android version of NWN, as this is a very customized module. There should be no issue with UNRECOGNIZED TOKENS with a SP game, as I am only aware of a MP possibly causing that kind of issue, which has been addressed anyway in the latest version (2.06 E).
As for PC level, it will probably make little difference, as your ENTIRE CHARACTER changes in the new demi-plane. Check out the Game Manual, the Tactician's Guide, and even the Walkthrough to get some head's up about it. Suffice to say, it is a very different experience that requires some attention by the player until they become familiar with the mechanics. If you have ever played System Shock 2, then the gameplay will be familiar to you.
Do keep me updated. Thanks, Lance.
Tried it, didn't like it. Totally alien to anything I have played before in the NWN realm. Some may really dig this, not me. A whole new set of rules and regulations as to how to play, no crossover to the standard way of things.
Hi Nails,
Soul Shaker is that kind of module .... It's one that people will either like or not. Sorry you did not.
If you have access to NWN2 (with both expansions), then you may prefer my NWN2 campaign, The Scroll. The first part is available for download already, and I am currently working on the second. It sticks to standard D&D 3rd edition ruleset, but alongside some campaign House Rules that cover things like resting, death and such like.
If you ever have the opportunity to play that module (and any subsequent ones I write), your feedback would be welcome.
Thanks, Lance.
I tried to go back to NWN2 and found out that I forgot how to play. By that I mean I don't know how to bash things, pick locks and other day to day easy tasks that I use all the time with NWN. So I went back to my old standard in 2017 when I had to get it from GOG. Now I cannot download any NWN modules that I have deleted because of Norton doing the Big Brother thing and protecting me from myself! Sad...
Hi Lance, I have been struggling with this mod .... but making it through till I ran into a game progressing roadblock.
I have been dealing with the "Guardian Spirit" just replicating all over the place, which makes all menus take forever, 30-160 seconds, to open. This behavior stoped once I made it into the sewers proper. For the castle section it started out ok, and gradualy got worse as time went on till very bad by the time I got to the jailors room and cells. Opening the Lower cell access took near 2 minutes. Then the same to go in.
Now for my game breaking problem. I completed the sewers up to the calibration. The very first code I entered returned 2 black 3 red from left to right.
Reset code - 00000 - input different code, test code - no change, 2 black 3 red. Repeat - same result - no change.
Which brings my playthrough to a hault. I have a save prior to entering the first code so perhaps you could give me the code needed so I can see if that will allow me to get past this problem.
Just FYI - NWN:EE lateset ver. 86.8193.34.1
EDIT: Gaah! Looks like I shot my own foot! I went to bash a chair out of the way and my character combat AI had it do one of those "step backwards before hitting" moves. This unfortunitly put my PC inside another object. So I was unable to move. I used a teleport command to free myself. AND thats where the gun went off....
Thanks to re-reading the mod description I discovered it was my own fault for the problems. Had to create a new game but its going good.
Damn, well everything was running smooth untill I got to the sewer calibration. Again I can not procceed because the tubes all eventualy turned a translucent black/grey. So to clarify They all start out red, Input a random code 11111, test, all red. 22222, all red, 33333, one or two went black, 44444-another went black, 55555 another went black, 88888 another went black, 34589 all were black/grey. Reset/clear - 11111 test, all stayed black/grey.
I have no indication that the numbers tryed have any effect.
So I need the code to this puzzle in order to keep playing. The puzzle is not working for me.
Hi MellaVelve,
I also responded on a PM, bvut notice these messages now as well. Sorry about the late response.
I have not got the latest NWN EE edition and so I cannot be sure if the module has any differences when played there. However, from what I read, I am not sure the tubes colour feedback is correct for you. They should be either white, red or yellow, and so if you get black or grey something is not right.
This puzzle has NEVER failed in all testing, and I am concerned about the colour you see here. It would tend to suggest something about the way EE works may conflict with my module.
However, That said, maybe you can substitue the grey and black for what should be yellow and white. So when you had grey and black, that sounds like you had a combination of yellow and white, which is what you want.
Try changing your figures so that you can get either all black or all grey, as it sounds like one of those now represents the all white response we need.
Please let me know if all black or all grey work as a solution so I might be able to warn others.
Let me know how it goes and I will try to stay with you until "fixed" for you.
Thanks, Lance.
PS: If you need to send me a saved game prior the puzzle, then I can do it for you my end and send you back your saved game, as long as the changes in the NWN main executable between NWN versions does not cause any issues.
I think I might have given the wrong impression. The color change was a single color. Greyish black but translucent. And never changed no matter what numbers were entered. No red, no white, no yellow and no color gradient change to indicate anything different.
I Imagine it had everything to do with EE. I have since reinstalled 1.69 Diamond. And am currently going through mods I had tried to play in EE that failed to play nice as well. I will get around to installing your mod in 1.69 and give it another go. It was fun so I don't mind stating over. Pluss I have not experienced the fighter so lookking forward to trying it. I will let you know how it goes. Now I am off to read your PM. Thanks for the reply. Stay safe and I am looking forward to getting my hands on "The Scroll"
Hi MallaVelve
(Also sent in a PM to you.)
Good to hear you have NWN Diamond too, as I am reasonably confident that will resolve all your issues with respect to my Soul Shaker module. I am also delighted to hear that the unusual style of mechanics appealed to you as well. Both my wife and an old friend of mine enjoyed playing that one too. Did you know that The Scroll (NWN2 module) is a continuation of the same campaign? So when you eventually play The Scroll, you would be able to play OPTION 1, which means you have played Soul Shaker and it changes some of the interactions. Alternatively, you can still opt to choose OPTION 2 if you want approach The Scroll as its own beginning of the campaign.
Do keep me updated with all your play, and I will keep you running as best I can should you encounter any issues I may not have found. Highly unlikely for any to remain, but always double check with me if you suspect any issues.
Just to say that sadly this crashes every time I try to play it on my iPad
one of only a couple that don't work
JhrezaReyne,
Sorry you had problems ...
Please note that NWN1 has undergone too many alterations with recent newer version releases of the game, which make original modules, like my own, incompatible with them. As I now mention in my notes above, I recommend using the NWN Diamond edition, in which I know Soul Shaker works.
If you ever invest in the original game (with both DLCs) and run from a Windows desktop computer, I am confident that the game will run smoothly for you. If you had any issues with this setup, I will help you in every way possible if still required.
My module was extremely "advanced customized" on its release - and I imagine these are some of the areas where modern versions have altered from the original NWN release.
NB: The poster above was able to install the Diamond version and is now playing OK. However, I cannot comment if playing on anything other than a Windows desktop PC, as this was the format for which I designed the module.
Crash At Start Issue and Workaround:
If you try to play Soul Shaker with Gunner's Body Rebuild/Retexure present as a patch override, Soul Shaker will crash during the first loading screen. This applies to both the NWN:EE and Diamond version.
Once I disabled this from my userpatch.ini, the NWN:EE version loaded with all other patched in and override stuff still present.
I never tried this module with the five pheno files that Beamdog provided to upgrade character modules as I thought they made all the elves look really angry and constipated. Since I tend to play elf rogue, that's not a look I want to go for. I'm menting it as something to think about disabling if you're a NWN:EE user and getting a similar crash. :)
Since I haven't actually played this module, I don't have actual comments yet.
Sachie,
Thank you for reporting this issue when using 3rd party haks. I have now updated my opening comments to reflect the risk of using 3rd party haks.
If you have any other issues (without haks present), let me know, and I will try to help you out. (Without knowing for sure, I imagine there may be some other potential issues with other haks. Please let me know if you have the time.)
I look forward to hearing how you get along, if you decide to play it.
