Classic.
I just finished the series and very much enjoyed it - clever, funny, touching and at times heartbreaking. Excellent work all around.
It may have its rough spots, but the series definitely deserves all the love it can get. Shadowlords 1 was the very first mod I ever played and just recently I finished playing through the whole shebang for the third or fourth time. No matter how many times I end up corrupting poor Nooble Unders, it just never gets old...
A Classic indeed! I got this along with other canceled premiums when I bought the NWN Diamond edition a couple of years back. I only liked Shadowlords and Dreamcatcher because I felt Demon is already way out of the story's cycle. It was like mr. Miller had a writer's block and he just created something and put the series' characters in them to make it a part of the trilogy. I still vote 10 though 'coz hey, it's Adam Miller!
I really liked Demon! I felt like it was a wonderful addition to Planescape Torment. Taking all that humorous potential in the setting's absurdity and crafting it into a sweet and fun adventure romp between the planes. Everything is cliche in this series, but never the boring kind. It is exactly the kind of game I'd play with my niece or something, like a modern day fairy tale. And Omelas looked better than *anything* on the professional RPG market back then!
Has anyone else had a problem with a stack underflow error in the Demon campaign? I keep getting an 'unrecognized token' error in the city of Omelas when talking to the commoners about potential work. They're supposed to give me a package or message to deliver and all I get is the above error. Can someone please help here? What bug fix do I need to implement in order to get this working again?
Overall, great module series. I must say I am very impressed with it. More so Dreamcatcher and Demon, but Shadowlords was great too. I will give a proper vote after I am finished with playing the entire thing. But I need my question answered first.
I already installed the CPP but it didn't help that issue. :(
I had the same problem but it doesn't affect the game at all. You just miss a very secondary quest which consists of a package delivery (that you can rather steal so that you can collect some money). Play it with your current game version and have fun :)
A classic mod-series at the beginning, but gets better with dreamcatcher. Demon is really great.
@Previous Poster: Yes, I've seen this error. It's maybe just an invalid character in the text. I didn't miss the minor side quest, so I didn't investigate further.

Well, it was fun but I experiences a bug with unkillable even with acid or fire troll in demon and buggy romance with Nooble in Dresmcatcer. Conversation starting romance just didn't happen and he was removed from my party with every new chapter. Dialogs didn't reference him as my companion sometimes and he lost his alignment once, I had to fix it with console. Also evil Nooble wanted to support this evi guy what was his name in the end of Shadowlords when it was obvious he will stab you and won't give reward. What was the point? To support Domain of Evil? To impress his potential patron? I was not in the right mood for being evil so I got mad at him. Does anyone know, were these Tainted really in some sort of rulebook or it was an addition to the setting from developer? Just curious. Ending of Demon rocked. It was great. And evil Nooble is fun too, also you don't see loyalty from evil people often. I thought at some point he will stab you in the back like sith do, so it was a pleasant surprise. But beginning of Demon is really hard, I had to reload an awful lot.
Ok,, I remember years ago I could see the comps inventory. I could give them the chest piece for swapping places, but for some reason,, I cant.
This series is just legendary!
I agree, very good stuff indeed.
This module consists of many different modules that all piece together to create one great, cohesive story. The first five modules, and the first modules you should begin with, are the Demonlord ones. Be warned, these modules do start out slow. So you’ll have to adapt to some mediocre scenarios for the first two modules. Overall, there are 10 modules. I’d like to first start with my thoughts about the Demonlord campaign.
When you begin the Demonlord campaign, you’ll start off by creating a new level 1 character. Your general M.O. will be to act like the hero and save the day! There are really not many options for an evil character although the author did try to put some options in for these characters, so do not think that if you create an evil character you’ll be left out of the experience.
However, it’s obvious that the entirety of the series is meant to be played by good or neutral characters. I began by playing on core rules with a level 1 sorcerer. I planned on not prestige classing nor multi-classing. I never got a chance to play with every companion, but Nooble as an NPC was my driving force behind the campaign. He’s just such a compellingly written character.
Most people will be happy to know that the challenge of the module is fairly well-balanced, and besides a few problems that I had about balance in the Dreamcatcher modules, every character is definitely playable, especially seeing how I beat the campaign with a sorcerer. Another big prop is that bugs and glitches are nearly non-existent. There was a small problem I had in a Dreamcatcher module where in Dreamcatcher 3 a movable box got glued to the wall and I was unable to move forward and had to reload, being that I was playing a low-hit die sorcerer.
The game also gets such high praise from be for being *actually* completed! I really don’t play module series that aren’t completed. But to my biggest surprise, there are many new monster characters that the author decided to utilize. I was incredibly happy to see that new monsters from D&D were implemented. While there aren’t a lot, there are enough to keep a person on their toes through the experience.
At this moment of writing, I’m on Dreamcatcher 4. I’d say the low points of the module come from the Demonlord campaign. Its areas are very interesting, but sadly the story just isn’t as good as the Dreamcatcher part of the modules. I can really tell that the author put a lot of work in.
Besides that, my biggest complaint would be that the modules don’t take you up to epic level. I believe at the end you’ll be about level 15. With a series of this scope, I was kind of hoping to be an epic, god-like character at the end. That’s somewhat the trope of a D&D series, anyway. Again, maybe this happens. But so far, the modules are fairly under the lines of: kill big bad guy, and you’re the hero – that being said – except, Dreamcatcher does this premise way better.
As for other complaints, I found the area leading up to Dreamcatcher 4 (the underground tunnel areas) to be relatively barren and uninspired. Second, playing a wizard/sorcerer with no spells in Dreamcatcher 3 almost made me want to tear my hair out. It seems every class is taken care of in that area BUT mages. You can find leather armor, battle axe, short sword, dagger, club ect… But with strength of 10, and on core rules, it was very difficult - too difficult. I had to turn the difficulty down, and I HATE that to no end.
Further, if you want an incredible series that is set in the Forgotten Realms, does everything right, and sets you up with a very awesome and totally originally and nicely written story, then pick this module up! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it.
Wow, just wow! I didn't expect it to be soo good. Now i feel like to downvote all the other mods i gave 9 or 10. It starts slowly, with traditional little quest but soon become really epic journey. Only downside to this is that, the module is pretty poor on the visual side. It is pretty standard nwn in terms of graphics. Hopefully Dreamcatcher will be somwhat better in this subject, as i heard it is better than Shadowlords in every aspect, so i can't wait to start the second campaign in this trilogy. PS. this is story focus module, the battles are pretty standard. I was playing as a Sorcerer and my wannabe Paladin (you will know who;)) did all the bloodbath even without my help.
About to go into Skull Gorge in Shadowlords. Very impressed with the feel of this so far.
For some reason I can't install it through the self installer - stuck at 0 % - keeps saying "error: One or more of your NWN registry entries missing. Running nwn.exe, or nwupdate.exe will rebuild them for you." I've run NWN.exe - doesnt seem to help-
You can open the .exe using WinRAR or 7zip (or download one of the other archives) then install manually.
Don't use .exe version. It probably just defaults to whatever installation is in Windows' registry, I had a vanilla install of nwn that shouldnt be touched and the .exe came along and splattered itself all over my vanilla install..great.
use the 7zip one if you have multiple installs
Thanks for the great game, with a great story. I had a lot of fun.
Any idea where is Reela's locket? (shadowrlords 1)

Hello Adam,
I hope you or someone can answer this questio on install. I know where the .hak, .bmu , and .mod files go but where do the .bik files go.? the .bic is the local vault for you player but I searched the main files and My/docu folders and nothing with the file.".bik".....
.bik files are the pre-EE movie files. They are not essential and only work on versions of NwN up to and including 1.69 but not EE. Obviously, if you do use them they go in the movies folder.
TR
Played these as they come out and you used to be able to give the comps items.... Lost the Walkthroughs a while ago..
Got fed up looking for that necros door in the Undead city mine as I couldn't remember and walking around the south east in Detect mode for ages is bloody mind numbing,, as it was near the end I just loaded the nedxt mod having saved my char fue to romance level.. Now,, In Dreamcatcher 4 Destroying the Ballisters 2 ways does not finish the quest and for the life of me I cant remember if there is something else ??? Hence the Walkthrough needed.
There are 3 ballistas, last one on top of the hill which is easy to miss.
Ah, just what I was looking for ;)
Didn't age perfectly with EE and such, but still awesome and playable.Did anyone ever bring in a char and named him Bobo? :D
Never tried this module before, for now i'm at chapter 1 of Shadowlords and it's quite well done. I'm especially a fan of the Planescape setting.
Only thing : I'm experiencing crazy FPS drops in the Orcish temple/dungeon during the "Skull Gorge" quest. It as barely playable on my I7 6700K@4Ghz, 16Gb Ram and GTX 1070 computer, and really unplayable on my 7 years old laptop...Never had this kind of problem with other modules.
My rating is not for the overall package, but for the second Shadowlords and last Dreamcatcher module sets. The Demon module(s) I did not like, being forced into a whole set of new rules and actions. Too RP immersive for me, at the expense of gear and combat, to say the least. I understand that it was an homage to Planescape: Torment, but that was not my fave as far as RPG's go anyway.
This was a great set of adventures and I enjoyed playing it for the first time. I only got back into NWN in 2017 when I bought the GOG set online, as I had lost my original CD set, which I had gotten right when it came out.
Thank you for this great achievement, Adam. You are a master of the art of Module making!
Played this most excellent set of modules all the way until the happy ending, and felt very satisfied indeed! It was tedious slogging through the Demon saga but finally was able to figure out how to charge up the Spirit Gem (just dropping items in the main area is sufficient!) and then could build the necessary rooms. It was nice to have my True Love along for the ride and she was competent and did not die, unless it was foretold. All in all a great effort and very fine storyline as well. Thanks again for the fine work Adam!
Hmmmmm don't know what's gone wrong but I can't get out of the east tower to go to sleep in the west tower.
it's turned into an Escher building. I speak to the elf on the wall. Go back into the tower go down the stairs go out the door and come out at the top of the wall again.....
probably an EE bug .....
Whoa! How does anyone get thru *Dreamcatcher 3 The Pit of Stars* When OPENING THE CHEST WITH YOUR EQUIPMENT STOPS THE GAME???
Clearly, all the comments here are from peeps who NEVER had this happen? Tried it on more than one machine, problem recurs EVERY TIME...
Help!?!? Thanks...
Were you ever able to figure it out?
I finished Shadowlords and started Dreamcatcher back in April and was thinking of continuing it soon. Just these older pre-EE Modules sometimes have game-stopping bugs.
Simple solution: don't play these older modules on the EE. When you purchase the EE on GOG, you automatically receive NWN Diamond as well, simply install it and try it on there. Many people have completed these modules over the years on that version.
Not only is that not a simple solution, it's not a solution at all without access to a time machine to go back and make the purchase through GOG rather than Steam (unless there is also a Steam option I am not aware of to get Diamond with EE). I played these modules back in ye olden days and I remember enjoying them and was looking forward to trying them again, but the 2 old modules I've tried that have opening .bik movies (this and another module I can't remember at the moment). CTD on launching the module
@branmakmuffin Try using the Neverwinter Nights Mod Installer Tool - NIT. NwN EE doesn't use the commercial bik movie file format. Instead it uses the open source wbm movie file format. NIT will automatically convert the old movie format to the new format for you. It also manages loads of other stuff too.

Playing in NWN:EE in and of itself is not the issue. I'm currently going through this module and just picked up my equipment from the chest with no issues. More than likely, you have an add-on installed either through patching, the override folder, or the development folder that is conflicting with this module and causing it to crash.
Case in point - Reborn is an excellent UI upgrade, except that it will cause S'Reek to not trigger Nekrodemus in Crimson Tides of Tethyr which means that the module cannot be completed.
If you get a crash or some other unexpected behavior that nobody else seems to be experiencing, the first solution should always be to 1) exit out of the game completely, 2) move everything in your development and override folders into subfolders to hide them, 3) load a save from before you encountered the issue and try again. It's also why you should use multiple saves when using additional custom content beyond what a specific module requires.
Every time I try to start Shadowlords 1 module game (NWN EE) crashes. Is there any fix for it?
UPD: same thing for second part. Third one stars without issues.
Make sure you don't have other mods in override or patch hak.
Also, did you read the previous comment about using NIT to install the movies?
If the movies are the problem, another option is not to install them at all.
