Description | |
After your adventures in Athkatla, you find yourself on a ship destined for a remote outpost of the Empire of Amn. There, you are to locate a specific ritual of banishment, one powerful enough to destroy the daemon Vraxilorn forever… but you have only a single clue as to where this ritual might be. “Find Silastheras,” Saleron has told you, “and you have found the ritual.” But what, where, or who is ‘Silastheras’, and what is so special about this particular ritual? For the answers to these questions, you must search throughout Ajit-Kahn, an island covered by jungles and swamps and shrouded in mystery through the passage of time. What you’ll discover will chill you to the core, for a great evil is awakening… one that threatens to engulf the entire island and enslave its people! A continuation of chapters 1, 2, and 3. For characters level 4 to 5. May advance as high as upper 7th level. |

Huge fan of Saleron's Gambit here. I really like the ... austere economy of cash and items compared to other adventures, and the storytelling is superb.
Which is why I'm pained to find out that NWN consistently crashes upon loading the store for Thibault the general store merchant. I see the inventory frame for the merchant pop up, then NWN exits to desktop. The only thing I can think of is that one of the dependencies (CODI Daggerdale Swamp Set) contains two files, .rar and .zip; the zip file contains a bunch of files I can't interpret (.wok, .mdl) which I could not figure out where to place. Perhaps one of them is required for the merchant...?
This is driving me crazy. How can I free the poor Islanders from Amnish oppression? How can I righteously punt evil chthulhoid cultists into the next dimension?
Any thoughts?
You might want to try installing CEP1 Complete. The bug can stem from the module being built with an outdated version of CEP1. It includes the fixes of the CEP1 1.69 patch linked by FP and overwrites previously installed versions of CEP1.
Thank you Turkeys and FP! I delved a bit (not too deep, too greedily) and discovered I was at 1.68. The latest patches did the trick.
Back to saving the world, one roflstomped bad guy at a time...
I believe this is a crash related issue with CEP. Do you have CEP v1.x installed?
CEP v1.x installer - https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/hakpak/combined/cep-v1x-installer
CEP v1.x 1.69 patch - https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/hakpak/combined/cep-v1-169
FP!
I had CEP 168 installed with the 169 patch and I still experienced the crash on opening general merchant's inventory in New Amn... what a pity. Thanks to Fester Pot's remarks, I tried to overwrite my existing HAKS again with the content he linked to. And it worked. Thanks! The downside: on overwriting my cool round shield found in previous module (in the evil surgeon's or slavers' lair) was downgraded to a much less spectacular shape.
See series comment.
This module requires CODI - Daggerdale Swamp Set, but on the set's page there is no info where all these files (extensions 2da itp mdl set txi wok) should be placed in NWN folder....
The module works fine with just the hak file from the rar archive.
Here ends the option for "normal" resting, so bring a lot of healing kits, you can buy some, too.A nice island adventure with some beatiful maps.I would have liked to tell the fighting factions in the end about their mutual roots, as a means to end the troubles, but there doesn't seem to exist such a conversation option.Off to chapter 5.
great Island exploration and quests but is actually too short and again the x.p. awards are waaay to low. For this type of campaign and this type of adventure you should end between level 10 and 12
What a pity that the auhtor doesn't seem to care to much to reply here about the general store problem. I tried everything suggested here and nothing helps, openning the store inventory crashes the game!!!
Check the dates at the top. The original author hasn't been around NwN for years and the last update to this module was 12 years ago.

I would still like to have a solution to this problem, I'm almost done with this chapter without a way to get rid of all my stuff (I cheated and spawned some bags of holding to be able to carry all my loot in hope that in the next chapter I'll be able to sell it), since money is a problem in this series not being able to sell means also not being able to buy (potions, scrolls, evrything from other stores) and that's the main problem.
I've set up a temporary store creation runscript command for you. It's not quite the same thing as a fix for the problem with the module, but, heck, hopefully it makes for an improvement on the current situation, at least. Let me know if it works, please. :-)
Noting on the side: If you run into more trouble with projects whose authors haven't been active in years, asking for help in the forum has better visibility than posting on the project pages does. Most of the active authors (including the folks who know how to bugfix and build workarounds for problems) don't keep a particularly dedicated eye on project pages other than our own.
I thank you very much TheBarbarian, I'll download your link but I'm not sure I'm going to use it. I've actually finished the game (the "general" stores in ch. 5 also do not work and crash the game) without selling my items so it is possible to finish the game without stores in chapters 4 & 5 but it's a pain. (just to make it clear in case somebody wonders about this, you can buy potions and scrolls in their dedicated shops/temples, what you cannot do is sell your accumulated weapons and armor and gems and jewelry which the temples or scroll stores will not buy to their designated shopkeepers). Anyway your idea is a superb one and I like it a lot, as to using it? we'll see. Thanks.
I tried the temp store, it works perfectly.
