Hello and Happy Halloween NWN community! I know I have been gone for a LONG time, but the real world has kept me busy. During that time, I have experimented some more in NWN and tried making better monsters that I did before. My original monster, the Eldritch Ghidorah, in the "Test Your Might" module I made last year (seen here https://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/test-your-might) I no longer have on my computer because I no longer consider that iteration of Toho's Anime Ghidorah valid. In fact, I consider that and my other module no longer likeable as it used homebrew monsters, not officially statted monsters. So instead I tried making creatures who have official stats.
Realistically speaking, the Eldritch/Anime Ghidorah it should be as tough (to slightly tougher) than Cthulhu himself... who has official stats! In fact, I made 3 modules, each with its own Lovecraftian Horror! Each of them requires the player to be Level 40. No real storyline, just see if you can fight and defeat the horror. Below is a list of the horrors you will be facing, what they are drawn/based from, and the difficulty they each represent...
1st, "The Call of Cthulhu": I couldn't resist doing the famous Cthulhu as my first Lovecraftian Entity. This one is based on the 3e D20 system, Pathfinder's 3e Cthulhu, and some aspects from Sandy Petersen's 5e Cthulhu. Intermixing each of these official stats, with a splash of my own touch to it, makes it more feel like Lovecraft's take on Cthulhu. He is not alone, as he has his Star Spawn of Cthulhu with him (these Star Spawn are also a hybrid of D20's and Pathfinder's Star Spawn stats). However, like his Pathfinder counterpart, he has "2 rounds"; Round 1 is at his strongest, win against this and he is "staggered". He's back at full health, but no Star Spawn and not as deadly as before. Defeat his staggered self and you have won against Cthulhu.... but you are alone in this adventure on R'lyeh, can you do it?
2nd, "the Dark Mistress with a Thousand Young": Next up is my favorite Lovecraftian Entity, Shub-Niggurath (I have no idea why she's referred to as a Black Goat when she's a cloud-like creature). No, this is NOT a Quake 1 module, this is more of a true-er Lovecraftian version of Shub-Niggurath. She's mostly based on the D20 version of her, but mixed with my own creative re-design to make her feel more like how I believe she's supposed to be represented. Like her official D20 counterpart, she spawns 1d6 Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath (who themsevles are a hybrid of D20 and Pathfinder Dark Youngs); but like her 5e counterpart by Petersen she replaces any Dark Young she loses with a new one. Also like her D20 counterpart, she has a mass "squamous blast" attack. This is like a deity's Divine Blast attack, but instead of just 1 person it's a "pulse" that affects all near her. For this Quest, you have a party of 12 Epic (Level 40) Characters to aid you as Shub-Niggurath is TOO TOUGH for any 1 person to handle alone! Can you and these 12 defeat the All-Mother without the aid of Quake 1's telefragging feature?
PS: Don't mind the game saying "too many instructions", it still behaves as it should.
3rd, "Azathoth!!!!": Yep, you read that right, in this final Lovvecraftian Trial is facing Azathoth himself!!! For those that don't know, Azathoth is the most powerful entity in the Mythos (and probably all fictional characters). He dreamed up existence, and when (not if) he awakens it all ends! Now D20 had impressive stats for him, but the Chaosium Cthulhu Mythos system had a better description and idea for Azathoth. You can't really fight Azathoth if that means he wakes up... but sometimes the sleeping nightmare will generate a "small portion" of himself. This smaller and weaker version is basically a miniature Azathoth who is awake. He is extremely powerful despite being only a small fraction of the real Azathoth (who is beyond any stats and means of fighting). Now because Azathoth only has an Intelligence of 3, this small portion has the chance to loose interest in the fight and leave. The goal here is can you and the same group of 12 Epic Characters stand up to and survive Azathoth.... if you can kill him before he leaves that will be an Amazing Accomplishment!!!
Well, I hope you enjoy these 3 modules. They are free for you to use as part of making your own Lovecraftian story using these critters. I wish you all a safe and Happy Halloween this year.
