Module locks up upon start.
Can you elaborate a little bit? How and where does it lock? And what do you mean by lock?
Well actually if you could read what DM (campaign host) has to say - that this is only for lvl 1 adventurers..
So you have basically troll voted 1 module because you could not use 40 lvl character.
EDIT: or it is due to GP to stone item conversion, as you yourself wrote here: http://neverwintervault.org/project/nwn1/module/i2-tomb-lizard-king
If you don't have infinite gold on your character it should then work.
Well the mod worked fine for us, two new level one players and was appropriately challenging. There was an odd script on death, which turned the person into an undead zombie, that was never mentioned in the readme. The mod was also huge, but in a bad way. Like the areas were tedious to run through. But the mod was pretty good. We got through about five levels and decided to stop playing. Nothing really wrong with the mod, but it was so big that we got bored of it.
Ideally you should play Living Island (this), go on adventure hook in it (storm/torrents of dread) and then launch the epilogue.
Unfortunately the storm of dread areas are included in the module, but I couldn't find a way to access them. I assume you would access them in the very end while trying to go to mainland but cpt. Kross is not interested, governor is not interested and second captain disappeared. Ship can't be entered via transition.
Solution would be to jump to area called Flying Kross (tag was I think "FlyingKrossStorm") or collect Deekin's gear at the end of module and launch Storm of Dread(linked module) separately. Afterwards play the epilogue.
I will write more QA in future.
Due to the gold issue, I will give this another shot; please remove my vote from this mod then.
Yes, it was a gold issue.
Mod is still for 1st level only though.
You can remove my vote if you want.
Tried that, but it doesn't work. The average(4.7 from 3 votes) won't change despite removing vote and/or comment attached.
If you really want that you can skip first area - jump to cypress colony(or base) simply
Ok first portion of QA (to be finished):
SPOILER FREE/Minor spoilers/advice for players:
- Description is ambigious on what level you should start, but any other than 1st lvl is not allowed.
- As mentioned before this module is big (big areas, long).
- Do not take archer/crossbowman as the crafting system early in the game won't allow you to make bows/slings/crossbows and ammo. Actually rocks(bullets) are free at any point of game but with no sling.. that is unless you start with a ranged weapon with a couple of arrows. Feathers necessary for ammo will come later in the game. More powerful ranged weapons as well.
- You can get free iron when you bash down the doors (at old vault someone commented on metal shortage.. well there is no mithril and only one bar of adamantine)
- There are no bags of holding in entire module, so either disable the weight of gold system or really buy those gems. Having high STR character is a nice thing. Below 1000 gold you won't be penalized.
- If you decide to play solo, I recommend cleric: lots of undead and almost no heal pots (none in shops, couple in drops). You can buy healer's kits though. I chose cleric and it was fine :)
- Two henchmen are featured: Tomi(rogue) and Deekin(bard), but early in the game you will want to leave them as there are no resurections early in game and they die like flies. Henchmen level up on dismissal and joining again (no way to do that upon PC levelup or via conversation)
- SAVE often. It is easy to die and death means you are zombified.. rumors are you can cure it, but best to avoid.
- Leave lighthouse quest for later unless you can sneak past golem(1-hit kills me at lvl1). Do first huddles-green halflings (no combat) and/or maybe the B1.
- Search mode is NEEDED for finding secret doors in B1. Otherwise only player attention and snoping in other parts are needed.
SPOILERS and not helpful for players things start here:
- typos: "paridise" - campaign host; "shine"(should be shrine) - Tharric Arniman; "attmpt" - Hebrin Cypress; "possable" - dryad Journal entry; "cumfy"&"names"(should be "name's")&"of coarse" - Tom Huddle; "no"(should be "know") - Krund; "mouring" - Piert Mener; "reguards" - Adrian Patton;
- lots of NPCs lack portraits
- some areas could use serious downsizing and fast travel methods in some case would be nice (they are sometimes present but not always)
- Tharric will accept less than 1000GP if you don't have as much
- gold weight system is very cumbersome and you get a lot of gold. Even then I wouldn't have place in my inventory for all the gems I would have to carry.
- walkthrough would be nice to have
- could more CC like 1.69 tropical tileset, osyluth demon model etc.
- triggers/encounters are drawn badly (it is hard to find secret doors while moving past them and encounters "ambush" player in many cases)
- no healer
- henchmen die easily
- burning green slime is not working and can be done multiple times
Played this series quite a while back. At first, I struggled, but with some tweaking in the toolset, the module is playable. But there are many problems that need fixing:
- Weird quest progression. Level 1-2 PCs can be overwhelmed easily.
- Inconsistent area transitions, lack of quick travel options.
- No proper shops. No healing potions and proper equipment shops. I had to make myself well-equipped from a Character Creation module.
- Gold weight system is "realistic", but ends up being annoying, had to get myself bags of holding by external means.
- Henchmen are really weak. Tomi does not have wepaon finesse, inept at combat. Deekin thankfully has sufficient Dex for ranged support, but dies really quickly on his own. One particular bugged henchwoman has crazy number of feats and refuses to leave the player, had to force remove her to take Deekin back with me.
*Spoilers*
- Dying will cause the PC to become a Zombie, suppose to be reversible by witch doctors and healers, but the scripts don't work or are outdated.
- Sad that quests (other than 1) don't seem to take the Zombie form into account, would be funny to see how they turn out, so much potential. I actually completed a huge chunk of the module in Zombie form, gotta love that physical resist. Had to edit the module to force drop the zombie heart, which btw has like 50.0 weight and an ability that cannot be used.
- Triggers and encounters much to be desired. It was a struggle to find secret doors. Also, if you are not a rogue or have Tomi along, you can't progress B1 as you lack sufficient search skill.
Finally, I think a reboot of this series would be nice. :)
Continuation of my other posts (spoiler heavy again):
- typos(in conversation, if not prompted otherwise):
". fortunately"&"I an"-should be "I can" - Bacon;
"examin me" - "Ithorp ran off invisible placeable"; "victurn"&"offsring"&"freinds"&"infertle" - Ilshidaar;
"tails" should be "tales" - Chagmanht description;
"determained" - Journal scroll item description;
"Luninescent" - item name and description;
"Declairation" - item name;
"burn't" - Watchman's Hill Journal Entry;
"aso" - Note to Galnaron;
"origen" - rod of life item description;
"trueth"&"of coarse"&"theiving"&"realze" - Pluck;
"planting. then" - Busby;
"helpfulBut" - Hebrin Cypress;
"fir"&". would" - Pelalumbule;
"volitile" - ALchemist's Fire item description;
"mt"&"catacomes" - Journal of Yesha item description;
"ge" - Rhunad;
"Skeleton Barberian" - NPC/mob name;
- most quests can't be done while undead
- it's hard for archer/crossbow users
- secret doors only in old colony is fort areas
- nothing to buy after a while
- henchmen does not follow in Chagmaht temple
- you are supposed to abandon your hench to babysit Fran
- lots of junk, not clear what can be sold and what can't. What to keep?
- can't buy healing pots
- hench won't stay ranged
- no ranged +1 weapons in beginning
- could use CC model for Osyluth
- Druidess Rerilmania was hostile and gives alignment shift to evil upon killing
- some parts of of mod are very hard (i.e. undead, despite I took cleric)
- killing Asriguard is evil and good at the same time
- backtracking
- Ring of Adrinard can also be found in wolf lake cave (2nd item, supposed to be in Chagmaht caves instead)
- flying corpses (at least 4) at 1st valley of king
- Tomb of Lizard quest puts words into PC mouth, like who is Mordin?
- book of darkness placeable in lizard king temple shift alignment toward evil by 20 points upon clicking
- map pins are sometimes lacking
- got stuck in lizard king quest (ambush did not play)
- no reward for slaying Sakatha not even governor notices
- Pelalumbule never gives amulet
- no reward for nightfang
- no way to start storm of dread
- nightfang riddle, is it red herring?
Found one more piece of notes:
"slove" - Karta
"nad" - runic pillar (deekin)
- what to do with raven's claw?
- many quests did not reach completion in journal
Played this one on the old vault. The module puts a bunch of classic modules into a story in an interesting setting. It should have been a good module. Unfortunately with the bugs and uneven difficulty, I didn't end up finishing it.
I enjoyed this up to a point, although the combination of the weight system and lack of shops made gold mostly pointless, identification of magic items difficult, and basic supplies scarce. Around level 7, though, spawned encounters started generating a creature (I forget specifics, but it was some sort of cat) that regenerated more quickly than my rogue could deal out damage. I eventually quit as there was no way to proceed.
A lot of work went into this. That said, there were some annoying things, many of which are mentioned above. The lack of virtually any gear or supplies was frustrating, especially when you are able to outfit your helpers, but there is nothing to give them! You need to bring stuff in with you, but that is not spelled out ahead of time. You cannot bring in money, although you can certainly cheat it in when you need it, just don't accumulate too much.
Many of the quests were poorly defined and whisked you off to parts unknown until you could solve them. I don't like being stuck somewhere with little idea of what to do, and no way to know if you were finished with the task. I lost my first two henchies due to death and then a forced detachment. This second bothered me because I knew that I would probably not see Tomi again, but still had to cut him loose in order to pick up the quest person, the daughter. Deekin died early on and I had no way to resurrect him, so he just sits in the first area.
Now stuck in the village with hostile natives, and no way to move things forward. Same thing with the farmer's quest, I got virtually all the quest items resolved, but no way to tell him and get his sign off. So had to quit that one as well. The journal is poor and doesn't give any information for many of the quests. Too frustrating to play this thing! 8 stars for the effort.
