The karaktan module is something I built just to have a place to play and have some challenging encounters and interesting array of areas from all versions of the game. it is good to play solo in and can be modified by any builder out there who knows what to do. It is also a great mod to dm in a multiplayer mode. |

Pretty well done but I believe that this is really for multiplayer and DM use, as it sort of says above. I played this and was able to wander around and explore and fight, but to no end. No quests were given and no real treasure to be found either. I did level fairly rapidly, due to the insane respawn that you run into in various areas (Great Plain, Large Forest are two!), and I am talking mobs of high level monsters! You are told in town that the only way to get quests is by using the DM Shout command and then they are given by the DM. Stands to reason that with single player that was not going to happen. This affected some area transitions not working, and in at least one case a chest not being able to be bashed or picked, as it was a Quest Chest (Underdark Passage). No henchpersons made this a lonely trek, and while you could buy some decent gear there was virtually none to be found or dropped. There is no journal, but there are map pins! Yay! Enemies just popped in from nowhere as you are walking along, not my favorite method of starting a fight. I see this in a fair number of modules though, versus having them already in an area as you approach.
I noticed that there were some areas that were reused from another module that I had played recently Karamor?), but I was too lazy to hunt for it. The main town was very similar in many ways, but not identical. All in all, an epic hack n slash that needs a tough, hasted, regenerating and powerful PC to really stay alive. Good luck!
