Requires: NWN1.69+HotU+SoU+CEP2.2+hakpack [version 2.1] This is my NWN conversion of the 1992 TSR module "HHQ1 - Fighter's Challenge" by John Terra. It's intended for a single-player Fighter (but other melee builds are possible) or multi-class Fighter in the 2 to 4 level range. (Training required to level up.) Intro: "Decades ago, Sturnheim was a thriving trade town on a major caravan route. But then, disaster struck when a gold-laden caravan disappeared without a trace. Financially ruined, the town slipped into decline, and now lies almost forgotten on a route that is seldom traveled anymore. Can you unravel a 40-year old mystery and restore honor to Sturnheim?" |
Tested with NWN: EE.

Did this one at the old vault.
Decent enough
Generally unpolished.
- behind one of the stables door there is no transition, although there should be. Stables are also empty. (Maybe I should have bought that Nag or took the horses from brigands, although the second one is impossible)
- mama chipmunk has some empty lines in her conversation for random rumours
- levelling system: If you have to use it, make it remember your XPs, and make training possible only when you are 1Xp to next level or have XP higher than what you need to level
- Bard henchman have both cape and ring of protection - they do not stack
- dragon turned to stone does not look stony - he is red(hostile) and moves(jumps and tumbles, trying to get away from attacks)
- town design: looks nice, but could be smaller. One gate is closed - why? No explanation is given. Also with every loading there were more and more villagers spawned. Centaur village is also huge just for 2 NPCS + fillers.
- the black bear, nycklos, ahrne(guy with stone disc) follow me, but won't fight anyone. In the manticore cave, the bear turned hostile.
- henchmen does not level-up, they stay their levels forever. I also did not notice any payments taken by them.
- Neesha helps me kill centaur patrol - they should turn neutral, shouldn't they?
- when entering inn, bard henchmen tries to go to his waypoint
- not enough bags of holding, but then maybe the nag was for it? I assumed it would just change my appearance(which I already did with alternate combat animations)
- ahrne got lost somewhere and I had to spawn that disc by console
- some of my henchmen got lost somewhere, too(I'm sure they did not die)
- centaurs won't give me herbs because they only have my word(spared corinna), but then I took their champion and fought brigands side by side with him so wouldn't his word be enough?
- found no owl mentioned in the walkthrough(maybe at night?)
- in the chest in underground complex there 25 pages of opals - that is why steve's game crashed.
Thank you. I've waited 10 years for feedback on this one so I'll see if I can fix it.
version 2.0 - many tweaks and fixes
having alot of issues/bugs with this one. However the main one, which is preventing me from playing, is the game is freezing up after i play about 15 mins or so...I am running this on NWN EE.
I don't have NWN:EE so I couldn't say how much of an impact it has on any of my modules. Also make sure you downloaded the latest version, hhq1_v2.
thanks for the reply. I am using version 2 !!
+++++++++++++++++Spoilers Below Beware+++++++++++++++++++++++++
Wanted to post and let you know i'm playing your module right now and really enjoying it, your use of visuals in this one is very well thought out and i was pleasantly surprised to see the chest appear (while using detect) in Vandrals home. I bought the nag haha and seems like a really good purchase. The Mayor seemed to offer me his job after i beat him but never really seemed to follow through. Loved the moss looking roof on the house in town and the Vampire was a surprise alright. Your modules seem to be Top Notch and was surprised how many items i found in the Bandit house, Ring, Parchment, Painting, Great Helm and 2 Notes. Hope i found them All haha. Thank you Very much for sharing your modules and what a surprise to see you still here after all these years. You are sure one of the greats.
Awww...thank you so much!
So, i have tried to run through this mod 4 seperate times. Each time, when I return to the starting town, my game locks up and i have to Task manager out of the mod. I am running the most recent NWN:EE build. Has anyone else run into this type of issue and/or does anyone have any ideas/tips/suggestions as to what may be the cause.
thank you !!
My only thought is to make sure you're using version 2.0. I don't have EE so I can't speak to that.
yes, on v2.0....But, I am wondering if maybe i have something missing from this:
CEP - Old Top Haks (2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4)....i will try to check this weekend when i have sometime. thanks tho, i like this mod, and hopefully can get this sorted. I will post a solution in case I can find one.
Anyone know where I can get NWN:EE for Windows?
You can get it direct from Beamdog, GOG or Steam.
https://www.beamdog.com/
https://www.gog.com/game/neverwinter_nights_enhanced_edition_pack
https://store.steampowered.com/app/704450/Neverwinter_Nights_Enhanced_Edition/
If you buy from Beamdog, in addition to a regular copy of the game, last I heard you also get a free Steam key (allowing you to put your module on Steam Worshop or test it with the Steam version). Presumably, more of your money goes to the developers, too.
If you buy from Steam, you only get the Steam version.
If you buy from GOG, you only get the regular version.

The culprit seems to be a script called "enter_sturnheim". You should be able to delete it in the toolset. I'll fix it when I can.
Ok, sounds good. i will download the update whenever it becomes available.
version 2.1: tweaked/fixed a few things; tested with NWN: EE
good deal...I will try the updated version out this weekend !!
Unfortuately no luck for this on me. still having system freeze up shortly after I return to starting town. Could very well be something with my system/files -- override folder, or something like that etc. Either way, moving on from this one, and thanks for the updated version !!
Oh okay. Sorry to hear that.
no worries, I am certain it is a comflict somehwere on my end with all the haks and overrides I have accumulated over time, lol.
I downloaded some of your other modules already and will be checking them out soon. I really enjoyed your version of Cleric's Challenge, I finished that one a bit ago.
Played this for the first time and it was certainly different in its approach. The starting town was overly large, but had a few merchants and quests hidden away, so you really need to explore it fully. One thing that bothered me was the level up system, requiring a purchase from the Armor vendor. Not sure why this was necessary, stating that "Training" was needed. When I did this it was still not clear, and I missed several level ups because of the weird procedure.
You can add henchpersons from several areas, and you also get Temporary helpers too, whethey you want them or not. So you can end up with quite a gaggle of folk traveling around this smaller module. No real gear to be had, so bring your own, as you will have to outfit your helpers. The Walk Through is a must, so make sure you check it out before visiting the Inn and taking that first quest. The Herb Quest is also one that can go sideways quickly so make sure you know the correct conversation choices to make beforehand!
I gave it an 8 star review because it played well and all thing seemed to work. Also the quests finished, not something you see often. Henchperson interface was good and you could outfit them, which I like. No babysitting. Try this for a bit of a different experience.
