If only this was continued...
This definitely had potential as a series and is a worthy hack and slash play on its own. Such as shame it ends with such promise of diving into a good story in the next module. The time adventuring provides worthy mob fights with balanced loot to build the character's levels and learn hints of the story to come. The only complaints I had were the henchmen were almost a hinderance, if you choose to use them. The AI seemingly topped at about 5 Intelligence for their actions and I gave up on them early on. I don't think they added anything to the story, quests, or immersion.
My PC was a fighter and I don't think I would have had as much fun with any other class. There was a fair variety of nice class-specific loot that was a fair attempt by the author to provide a balance for other classes, though.
A couple words were mis-spelled but other than that I could not find any bugs.
As it matters to some, I will mention that the PC is stripped and de-leveled at the start.
Nicely done. A dearth of equipment was a negative for me, as I always like finding or buying cool stuff. And whole bunch of traps and locked doors meant you need pretty good Rogue skills, as well as fighting ability. The henchman was okay, and could hold his own. Hard to get equpped to handle some of the fights, with so many fairly high level baddies.
I enjoy low-level modules and the general premise of beginning adventurer arriving in town and doing various jobs, but this became tedious as each quest consisted of a multi-level dungeons full of repetitive encounters. I played a rogue, which was helpful for the many locks and traps but not so much for the repetitive battles. Fighting large groups of the same enemies over and over did not hold my interest and I stopped before finsihing the second of what seemed to be three main quests.
On more positive notes, I did not encounter any bugs and the mod offers henchmen of many classes of whom two can be recruited at a time.
The module has some promise, but it feels unfinished in the sense that it is very unpolished. There were inconsistencies here and there. Some NPCs don't have portraits. There were also inconsistencies like how it's a village full or Jenova worshipers yet the temple sells a great sword that references Lathander in it's name. I also feel like if you approach a merchant for the first time, they shouldn't automatically go into a long discussion about something as this could be tedious if you play through the module again.
edit -- I forgot to mention that like everyone else stated, this module is not finished. Once you complete the three quests that you are given, the guy you talk to says that he'll send for you once he makes a decision as to what to do next. This never happens. It isn't a case where something is broken as checking in DM mode, there are not additional areas for you to visit. The primarily reason I rated this a seven and not something higher was that finishing this module was a bit like Witch's Wake where things just end abruptly with no real sense of conclusion for anything.
