You start near a small town ostensibly to receive the behest of a relative. Merely a device to get you started in the world. You receive equipment and special items, such as boots of leaping, a signet ring, and monies to purchase basic equipment.

You can train and be at 3rd level within a half hour or so. Training dummies and archery targets allow for a bit of experience per visit to the world, in the case of the training dummies, and limited by level at some point on the archery targets. More of a place to go to wait for others or to top up when near a level, and you don't want to take a chance at dying. A convienience for the player.

1. Talk to the bar boy at the Inn.

2. Talk to the innkeeper.

3. Go to the Chateau, talk to the guard.

4. Enter the Chateau and talk to various npc's

5. Go to the Quartermaster.

Once you are 3rd level you can go in a few areas around the town of Orilion, or into the Central Slums, Sewers, Farm East, Farm West, Timberlands, etc...

Also there are a number of lesser areas where you can get the feel of the region. Things get harder and tougher fast

the further you get from Orilion the town. Most of the details of the surrounds can be discovered by following npc conversations within the game.

The game is very faction oriented in that actions against other factions will be remembered, both positive and negative.

If you blindly attack everything that crosses your path, then well, you might have a very short time on the stage.

Basic History.

Orilion was once a major port but has been in decline for 100 years. A slow laborious, corrupt , soul crushing, sort of decline, that has led to

factions claiming various portions of the once great trade city, as their own. The merchants city fathers, unable to afford the monies needed to control the town have

left various areas to fend for themselves, focusing their dwindling forces on maintaining the influence and protection of their declining trading houses from

internal and external enemies. Into this house the heroes are born. Into this world they're thrown and it's not so great for them.

The city proper is run by the volatile and deadly Crimson King. His court is a constant source of intrigue and power struggles between the various courtiers. They are

also often a dismay to those who cross their paths. The overall context is the intermediary period of the Second God War, based on my campaign world. There may be opportunities to ally with the various gods, but different from the original SGW campaign in that now you are not being actively recruited to join a god.

Other factions:Goblins, Orcs, Undead, Elves, Natives, Cocina Negra, Manos Blancos, Guards (army, navy, marines). Pirates, Smugglers.

Best played as a party though many people have played it as a single. If you are playing alone I suggest no hard core choices.
Choosing to play hard core will mean you respawn where you fell.

Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD:

Go to the Carpenter's shop and pay for a pine box. This allows respawn at the Carpenter's shop.
The harder you press the harder the game will press back. Listen to warnings and heed warning signs.
Use your maps and talk to the Mad Ratter and get a treasure map. Get a horse as soon as you can afford one. With my method horses can be summoned and dismissed at will, making it convenient to have one.
Get a Mymidon Crystal.
Get a Horse!

Go to the Customs House you need around 1k to get a hovel key, and a merchant's license.
Use your hovel as a place of safety and last resort. No one can enter you hovel unless you allow them in, although perhaps a unit in hot pursuit could get in anyway, In extremes use your trap door.
Avoid the East slums until 8-TH level or so as gangs lie in wait to waylay passersby.

Work on improving your notoriety by completing quests and defeating enemies.
Soldiers of Fortune will reveal your current notoriety if you speak to them.
Certain NPC's will ignore you if your notoriety is not high enough. You are beneath their notice.
Use campfires to heal up. Light them with your torch. In hostile areas enemies may seek to destroy campfires.
Places of note to visit in early exploration.:

The Way Inn/The Fall Inn/The Stumble Inn. S.O.B (Son of Brogo)--shop Farms: East and West. The Moaning Moors. The Customs House, The Sewers,
The Slums, The Customs House.

The fantasy:If you are able to penetrate the inner city and dethrone the Crimson King you can take his place.

I actually figured out a way to do that but it was never implemented, plus I never actually completed that part of

the campaign..

Work towards getting your special weapon for your class, not every class has one.
Multiple spawning methods making spawn prediction next to impossible. Be ready to run at all times.
Work methodically out from a central base and try to discover any special features that may not be obvious.
Don't anger factions with frivolity or needlessly attacking their totems or symbolic features, unless you want to fight them.

Scripted individuals and items, are a key feature. Unique horse method. Unique fatigue system.

I think that is about the basics. Of course much of this place is still unfinished, but there are a number of quests

which can be completed: The Zombie King, The Goblin King, The Kobold King (partial), The Harpy Queen, Sleeps with Bears.

The video is of an earlier version, whereas later versions have improved mount and dismount animations. Also if your animal dies in the field you have to return to an Inn to reset and be able to call your horse again.. Inns also reset rest and return fatigue as do campfires.
