Looking for a world where the players can have an impact, both In Character and Out? Look no further!
Land of the Purple Dragon is a Player's World, where the player can do as he or she pleases as long as the FFA, or Fun For All, is kept as the primary goal.
What Can I Do on LPD?
You've a myriad of choices on LPD. You can go the Dungeons and Dragons route and hack and slash your way to fame and glory, RPing all the way. However, if you're of the mind that you'd like to take a more direct hand in the living, breathing land of Cormyr, why not become a politician? Why not run a tavern, a shop? Why not claim the title of High Priest or Priestess in Cormyr? Why not become a farmer, selling your crops to a grateful nation? A miner, even, collecting ores and the like for craftsmen to refine and make truly wondrous things?
The sky, and your creativity, are the limit on LPD. Check out "The Fox's Den" in Suzail's Eastgate sector, where every once in a while an NPC goes on break and a PC starts pouring the drinks. Plenty of farmland for the claiming near Suzail, and if you get in now you might be able to pull off a good harvest.
However, if the dungeon-crawling, glory- (or money-) seeking route is what you're after, don't be afraid! We've plenty of dungeons in Suzail alone for you to explore! Climb down into the sewer system, which spans the length and breadth of the city. You never know what you'll run into down there. Then there's the old vaults, built several hundred years back, that hold some deep, dark secrets of Cormyr (and some from centuries before its birth)! Townspeople are always looking for help, from patching roofs and finding lost pets to clearing out infested warehouses or recovering stolen property.
First-timers should seek out the Society of Stalwart Adventurers to earn your adventuring charter. Hrolglaf the Flatulent is looking for strong folks to take on a daring rescue mission, while Brother Waynard is seeking holy folk to put down a great threat. Lady Carista's got some news about a noble-working-for-the-other-side, and Colbert Harroughs is a War Wizard looking for those wishing to learn about the might of the arcane. Allan Crownsilver's the Society Archivist and has heard about some problems at the Archives, and Telgar Larynth's an agent of the Crown looking for people to counteract a blight in the Royal Gardens.
What's So Special About LPD?
The LPD Creation Team and Staff come from many different RP server backgrounds. We've managed to pull many of the best ideas together and present them here. Ideas such as player guilds, player shops, a banking (not an exchange) system, an RP Reward system and many other things. Let's look at a couple of those in-depth.
The LPD RP Reward System is based off of the RP Rating System created by Gigaschatten. With it, DMs are able to grant a persistent reward to players who have shown themselves to be quality RPers. What's the reward? Why, Roleplaying Experience every In Game hour, or ten minutes! So yes, you can get XP for killing things and XP for roleplaying!
Now, you might be asking yourself, "Self, if I can get XP for those things, why don't I just do them instead of the farmer/miner/innkeeper crap he mentioned earlier"? I'll tell you why! Because characters that have either started or made the transition to ROLEPLAY ONLY CHARACTERS will receive double the RP Reward. So if you receive 10 xp every ten minutes as an adventurer, you can receive 20 as a roleplay only!
I have to stress, though, that the DM Team votes on most Reward shifts. Also, what can be given can be taken away. If the Team feels your RP isn't up to snuff, it can be lowered. So aim high and keep striving.
The last neat thing we're testing is the tentatively titled Key Player system. This system permits PCs to take a more direct hand in Cormyr. For example, in the most recent "Steel Lady Campaign" post it's mentioned the Sthavar, the Lord of Suzail, has been poisoned and is down for the count. Alusair's looking for a new, if temporary, lord. That pique your interest? Key Players will be those that take highly visible positions in Cormyr. What are all of these positions? We don't know yet, but we'll find out together.
Why Should I Play Here Instead of Somewhere Else?
Well, aside from all the neat bits mentioned above, it can all be summed up in one word - community.
Right, I mentioned that above, but we're taking it a step farther. As long as we're all civil and we stay away from certain topics mentioned in our forum rules, you can suggest or say what you like. We'll take all suggestions under advisement, all we ask is that you realize that 1) we might have something higher up on the priority list and 2) sometimes your suggestion won't work in the grand scheme of things. However, this being a player's world, we'll do our utmost best to make what YOU want to see happen.
So pop on in and give us a try! Check out our forums at http:/lpd.imt-gaming.com/ !
NOTE: Some server specific files have been uploaded to the Vault. Other Required Projects are listed below. We do have quite a few downloads, but we think they add to the experience. You may also utilize the WorldGate Utility (Link) with directions found here (link) to download almost everything else!
