Description | |
This module is for single player, high level, good or neutral characters (level 15 and up). You will start just outside of the gate of a small town by the name of Frostwyche. The basic premise of the module is Dantes' Inferno meets Planescape Torment. You will be adventuring with one of three possible henchmen that you will find familiar from the game Planescape Torment. You will also meet a few other of the characters from that game. If you have not played Planescape Torment no worries at all as you will be given enough background information to be able to enjoy the module regardless. Look at the text file for instructions on where to place unzipped files. |

A very interesting module with an imaginative storyline and strange characters. Is a linear play. Less on the hack and slash side and more on puzzle solving. Lots of conversation. Lighting is used to good effect for the various planes.
I was really impressed by the amount of detail and craftsmanship that went into this mod. It had a great mixture of story and action, and I'm excited for part two. However, I would have liked all the NPC's to recognize that my PC was not a guy- some did, and some did not. I also would have liked there to be a bit more mystery about the quests, as everything I needed to complete them was easily attainable, in the same area, or just given to me. Otherwise it was a great mod.
I did not make this mod. I have no idea how this mod was uploaded under my account. Credit where credits due, boys, so forgive me that I can't answer any questions you have concerning this module.
I'd like it more if it wasn't based on Dante, Planescape setting could fit much better. Dante's poem is really old after all, people now imagine Hell a little bit differently. It could be so much fun if author used only roolbooks. There are some typos and mistakes but I'm not fluent myself, actually language is pretty decent. Humor is good and your character despite being good isn't a lawful stupid case. Also I really like some tracks.
First time I have played this and Nature of a Man was before I had the chance to play PS:T. Now that I had the pleasure to finish PS:T I have replayed the mods and I find them a nice conclusion to the story. The mosuic is very good and I have to send personal thanks for introducing me to Steeleye Span.
Some QA:
- Granx got killed by his own wolves
- all urns in plane of jars can be broken
- shame you can't take all henchies
- you can plicklock many plot-locked doors, often nothing is behind them
- magma golems in vault often crash the game especially if they spawn 2 at once
- flying wood placeable in the inn kitchen
- portraits are sometimes missing for NPCs
- no PC export at the end
- hench dies and respawns in place, then if (s)he dies again (s)he disappears
- +5good alignment from Randolff can be gotten repeatedly after you finish their quest
- blue glowing urn is marked as white on mini map (plain of jars)
- when Drewsome and Peetie attack they make Jeil hostile
- weird door mapping (extra empty room to get a door)

"hench dies and respawns in place, then if (s)he dies again (s)he disappears"!!!!
This is annoying, any way to spawn them back with the console?(Using Mac, so no toolkit access)
None of the Planescape henchpersons would deign to work with me! I tried both a Chaotic Good human and a drow male fighter. Not sure what the problem was. Found this to be bit short on action and boring. Moving on...
I encountered this issue with all 3 henchmen as well, turns out that they will refuse to work for you if you are more than 3 levels below them. I had to open up the module in the toolset and check the functions that affect whether or not the PC can hire them.
Hmm... not too fond of the setting as it seems to clash with planescape and forgotten realms while still using references to said deities and important figures... I'll try to keep an open mind for now I suppose, but it is really turning me off honestly even though I'm usually not too particular about lore accuracy.
I have wanted to play this one and its sequel for years. Finally jumped in after getting a character to 15 from other mods. For having its last update 21 years ago, it has held up quite well. On the old vault it had an 8.81 with 152 votes.
It is a very linear module in story and in dialogue. I played with a level 15 Rogue that was fairly well equipped and chose Grace as the henchmen. The battles were mostly balanced. There were lots of puzzles, none of them too difficult.
I enjoyed the story, the music is unique and despite being linear was quite an enjoyable module. I appreciated the author taking the time at the end in game to explain some of the more cryptic story lines and how they tied together.
I am looking forward to the sequel.
Well done Beerfish!
