Very haunting indeed.
Nice planes-oriented adventure.
1. Fate of SoU Companions: apparently left behind (+0.1)
2. Given Relic of the Reaper: YES (+0.5)
3. Unique use items: power stone - removed from inventory, mirror is not working (-0.5)
4. Ends in Waterdeep: no, but on Faerun, near Baldur's Gate (+0.25)
5. Ending level(should be at least 15, but since I finished SoU at 13th.. I will accept 16th): 18th (-0.75)
Final Vote: 8+0.1=8.1=8
bugs:
- Kenku henchmen can't be stopped from disarming traps (usually by too eager walking into)
- Githyanki and Githzerai are mutes apparently
- you can get extra XP for pick locking and then destroying open door (twice the XP)
- captain G'thkarzin was supposed to surrender but did not, had to check in toolset what to do without password
- in temple ruins my PC notices armour wearing necklace, but nothing can be done about it? Pickpocketing does not work. Are the NPCs supposed to be attacked?
- armory area can't be reached
- typos: "severly" - Lendrera (description)
- if you kill winged creature while it is defenseless it is okay, but if she not only has the sword but also is starting the incantation to drag you to hell.. then apparently it is an evil deed (5 evil pts)
- elementals summoned via book just stand there
- when opening emerald door with emerald.. text appears "silver crescent key fits"
- there is no way of completing the module without gainig evil and chaotic points, for killing guardian, for killing confused warrior, for killing celestial deva.. all stuff that can't be avoided.. and I thought that at least sacrificing my life for that injured angel in pocket prison would spare me the angelic intervention..
Thanks for reporting those bugs, I will look into them if I get the time to rework this mod (have already started with that I feared most - upgrading to CEP 2.6 locally, which went reasonably well - so I am in fact on my way).
EDIT: The Armory bug is definately something that must be corrected. I cannot understand I didn't catch that myself, though it's been some 8-9 years since I last played this mod myself....
I can't figure out how to progress in this module. Please don't spoil anything; I'd just like some hints about what to do next.
From the Githzerai camp, there are three places to go --
1) The ruins in the chasm: Inside there is a non-functioning gate and nothing else.
2) The ruined temple: I freed Lendrera (the winged creature), but got angry at her for berating me. She teleported away. That's all there is inside the temple.
3) The locked door with a gem-shaped hole: I haven't found a gem anywhere that would fit this, so I guess I can't enter it yet.
So basically there's nothing to do at any of the three options. I'm stumped!
Have you went via door near waterfall?
Yeah, that's what I was referring to with #3. There's no way in, though. Bashing it doesn't work and the lock can't be picked. The description refers to a hole in the shape of a gemstone, but I haven't found a gemstone that matches it.
I reacall no problems getting under waterfall. Maybe you need to talk to githzerai again or search the temple again? There should be the key somewhere.
The solution was in the temple. Thanks!
After having great difficulties in getting the old NWN CDs to run on a newer system for now almost 10 years I've now purchased the Diamond Edition at GOG, and though there still are some difficulties, I can now properly run the game - and the toolset - again.
Who knows - maybe an update is coming. :-)
Just downloaded this mod and noticed that the ReadMe (which the description tells you to look at) is missing from the downloads - it is available on RoloVault.
If you can get it from there please upload it - I can't find the readme file there; I only get an FTP error stating that the file doesn't exist when I try to open it.
I'll browse some old CDs and DVDs I've created when making backups in the past and see if I can find the file there, but I can't promise I'll find it.
Added the readme form FTP.
Swell, thanks. :-)
A new version is under testing locally now. If all goes well it may be ready for release in a few weeks.
New version is up! Hope those who played it give it another go and so help me squash bugs, and for new players - welcome, hope you like it. :-)
Please read the readme file for more info, and refer to the hints file if you're stuck, before asking questions here - which I will answer to the best of my ability.
And oh - you'll need to start a new game! The mod has changed, the NWN version has changed, and the haks have changed!
Game does not load from a save?
What....? This is a major update, you probably can't load a previous save game from an earlier version of the module, as the hak requirements have been changed, as well as the game version. What happens, exactly? If you can't load a game and you have the Diamond Edition from GOG (as I do) and run Windows 10, try running the NWN application as admin. If that fails, delete the .tga files in the save game directories (e.g. C:\Games\GOG\Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition\saves\000000 - quicksave\portrait.tga and (...)\screen.tga
There's been - as I understand it - a known error getting the game to run properly because it creates "bogus" .tga files.
Also, try applying the NWN 1.69 Critical Rebuild.
Downloaded the module from here yesterday.
No tga files in save folder?
I have windows 7.
Will try again using a new character.
You've downloaded everything needed, right - the mod, my hak files (and optionally the music files) under "Attachments", and CEP 2.61 as well the other files listed under "Required Projects"?
I don't think a character file would cause problems like the mod not loading...
What happens - do you get an error message or does it simply crash to desktop? Or something else completely different than those?
Note that the .tga files aren't in the save game folder itself, but its subfolders.
Just tested the files uploaded to this site from my home PC on my work PC, and the game loads just fine here.
Some override files or graphics settings (connected with gfx card) can cause crashes as well.
Still have a major problem.
Spoiler alert:
When an 'Angel' appears, it immediately attacks. Thought it might be an alignment thing so tried a good character but same thing happens. The fight takes place as a cut scene, but does not revert back the mode where I can control the character?
Just tested this with both good and evil characters, a wizard, a rogue and a fighter, and everything works as I designed it.
I have no problems like you describe and haven't got a clue what's going on in your game.
I need more information. Do you have anything in the override folder? Is debug mode on? Have you installed the NWN 1.69 critical rebuild or not?
I emptied my override folder. I have installed the critical rebuild and downloaded all the correct files.
It still does not reload from a save, and when the 'angel' appears there is a dialogue box for a second, one that disappears as if I've pressed escape, leaving me in limbo.
Fault is likely to be my PC which is running erratically at present.
Well, I hope you get the problems with your PC sorted out, but ask you kindly not to report any more bugs until you have done so - for obvious reasons, yes? :-)
Reloaded windows 7 and reinstalled NWN at several hours of my personal time.
Same thing happens? I cannot get beyond the cut scene with the 'angel'?
By hitting '1' very quickly when the conversation starts, it does bring up a dialogue box, but this disappears before I can read it, and she attacks?
PS: Still cannot load from a save?
It seems I may not be able to help you then, because I cannot recreate this behavior neither at home on my Windows 10 Pro PC, nor at work where I have Windows 7 Enterprise.
Some things to make note of (again):
1. This last version of my mod has been built using GOG NWN Diamond Edition + the 1.69 Critical Rebuild patch, on a Windows 10 Pro computer.
Reason: I could not get my old CDs to work (the game installed seemingly properly, but the game crashed once I tried to open Ashtara's shop in the very first area). It may be that is the reason for odd behavior at your end, if you're using the old CDs I mean.
There have been reports from people who have had difficulties in getting NWN to run properly in Windows 7 (both CD and GOG version). Try looking at this if you haven't:
https://forum.bioware.com/topic/232155-nwn-1-diamond-complete-configurat...
2. There's a bug with the creation of .tga files in the GOG edition. If you encounter it, locate the save game directory, and delete all .tga files you can find there, and then reload. Example path: C:\GOG Games\Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition\saves\000000 - quicksave
There I have 2 .tga files; portrait.tga and screen.tga. I delete those if I get an error message when I try to load the quicksave.
3a. Try starting a new game using a pre-generated Bioware character. I have myself just tested with the 15th level Caitlin D-something, a bard. Works just fine.
3b. Try starting a new game using a pre-generated Bioware character of level 1.
NOTE: If you are lower than level 12 when you start, you will be given enough XP to get to level 12, and also you'll start in a different area (the same area as Ashtara in Shadows of Undrentide). Purchase what you want and level up. Then go through the door at the far eastern wall to start the game proper.
3c. Try starting a new game with a brand new character. Do the same as just above here.
3d. Try starting the game with the character you've used before.
If the behavior you're referring to occurs only in step 3d then there's some serious issue with that character.
(Note that I've tried steps 3a-c myself and encountered no problems, neither in Windows 10 or Windows 7.)
4. If all else fails: Delete all files in your hak, module and music directories that pertain to my module (including the "Required Projects", that is you should reinstall CEP 2.61 as well). Then download them again, and reinstall the haks, module and music files.
If that doesn't work either, I'm sorry; I'm all out of ideas. :-/
Many thanks for your reply.
It appears I have a conflict between your latest mod, and the silly number of nwn downloades on my PC. Basically I have Windows 7 and NWN, and a bit of some other really minor stuff.
Just because I have an issue with this Mod, please do not let that stop you from updating Eryndlyn.
Eryndlyn has the ability to be the best mod ever. Really, it has that potential. I've lost more hair, and hair colour, over that Mod than anything else in my life!
Personally I prefer this module, so I hope you can get things sorted out. As I've said, try a "clean install" of my mod, with freshly downloaded files.
Eryndlyn re-work is started, but as I've said - it will take time. And most likely some content will be cut - and new added.
A great module, although linear. I would have given a 7, but the visuals and feel of the module pushed it up a point.
Glad you got it sorted out, thanks for the vote. :-)
And that of course goes to everyone else who has played and voted for the mod as well!
a solid module w/creative visual and good ambiance.
*spoiler* on-activate doesn't start the statuette conversation because the variable is ON_SPELL_CAST_AT, not ITEM_ACTIVATE. also, even after this bug is fixed, the pc MUST see zerth before the librarian, even though the librarian is the one who reveals the symbols on the statuette.
"there are a couple of bugs, one of which is major.

Really? I'll look into this. Thanks for the heads-up! And thanks for playing and reviewing it. :-)
Glorious PS:T nostalgia
Thanks :-D
A very solid mod, great use of tiles and music. However I may not be able to finish. As Werelynx said:
"- captain G'thkarzin was supposed to surrender but did not, had to check in toolset what to do without password"
When I defeated him and he surrendered and I answered "Yes" to sparing him, the conversation ended without any answer to my question. There was nothing in his chest in the corner which could help. I ended up going back and killing him. My journal was updated with an entry about it. What now? I can't seem to find anything else to progress.
Sorry, I'm not visiting these pages much for the time being. If all else fails/is botched, you should be able to purchase the necessary password from the Abishai Merchant.

It was kinda fun. You can totally screw up everything if you didn't talk to right NPC or made a wrong choice, just like in life. It shows the nature of lower planes pretty well, if you want to progress you have to do awful things. The whole idea to go to the Gray Waste to find a night hag is total bullshit but since you have no way of knowing that you're screwed. I'd just give up on idea of going back in this case or started to search for alternatives. Bad stuff - several times I got stuck because I couldn't find a key or hidden door, but it's adds realism, there must have been a lot of adventurers who died because of something like this. Still, it would be nice to list where are they in something like a walkthrough. Hight hags act exactly like they're supposed to having fun of your situation and driving you into unpleasant places for their amusement. I laughed a bit when I got into the battlefield of Blood War and killed both sides, like I'm superpowerful but then I ran out of arrows and there's completely nowhere to find them and I felt like a total berk getting to the lower planes unprepared. You cannot rest almost everywhere which is also reasonable if you don't want to get killed. And being good can get you into trouble instead of usual rewards for that, that's neat. Also, gith captain didn't surrender, didn't even know he could, I just bough a password from an abishai and expected it to be wrong but it wasn't. Then I understood why. To pay to get to the Gray Waste. Lol. Fiends act like total assholes, exactly like they supposed to, expect that erinya who was screwed because of me. Nothing even close to fairness or justice which don't exist there obviously. Got a great Planescape feeling from this mod and understood exactly why lower planes aren't a cool place to fight fiends and have fun if you have no means to escape.Githyanki Captain in City of the Past will not yield.
So i go to black market... and Baathrisomething abishai seller attack me on spot, while his two bodyguards do nothing.
I will need a few more details about this. First off, do you have a save from before you entered the portal to the past? Try reloading that, and go straight to the cave with the portal you need to activate, and then to the Abishai merchant. What happens then?
Also, if you could try to get some variables and their state that might help. The statuses are set on the module (GetModule()) and their names are "PORTALREVEALED" and "PCSEENPORTAL", and they should be set to state 1.
Hmmm. Actually, I think I may have spotted and fixed the problem locally. The error is most likely faction-related. Have you attacked (apart from through dialog) anyone that's obviously neutral? Githzerai or the Erinyes in the temple dungeon or something like that?
This is a well done post SoU planes adventure that I will play again.
For this module I used an 13th Level Elven Rogue that had played through SoU many years ago. I played this module with 1.69 and CEP 2.65. I did not really encounter any bugs.
The author clearly put a ton of hard work into this module. The story is engaging, the visuals, placeables and music are all well done with a clear attention to detail. There are some very unique areas in the module that gave me some ideas of my own! :-)
I only have a couple of very minor complaints and they are very minor. First like one poster above, it is a bit disappointing that there is no way of finishing the module without killing what seem to be good or at least neutral creatures (guardian, confused warrior and the celestial deva)
Second, the need to identify everything does become tedious.
Again both very minor, all in all this is a very nice Post SoU module. The use of the SoU and HotU movies was a nice touch!
Well done fkirenicus, I appreciate the hard work you put into this module! I will play this one again!
(sorted out :-))
Again, I really like these efforts by fkirenicus (not John?), and am impressed with their length and scope. The one thing that I do not like doing, in real life or modules, is backtracking. This is necessary in both modules that I have played, and I really have to grit my teeth to follow this action. This module has the quirky henchman, respawn that is a bit annoying, and an absence of high level gear (at least to the point that I am at, the Mysterioius Tower locked door). I may stick with this and try to keep going, if I can find the key in a reasonable amount of time. I have moved through this mod, not necessarily getting to all areas, (something that my OCD is not happy about!), but still progressing. A great work as so many have rated it before, and I follow in that regard. Thanks, fkirenicus!
Finished it, and all I can say is the ending was a bit underwhelming, with fairly easy fights and not too much gear. My henchie was also not transported out with me, so that was a bummer, even though he couldn't talk!
Thanks for the vote :-D
The reason I did not export/teleport the henchman along with you is that this is how I envisioned how you ended up with the relic of the reaper - and thus, it is the prelude to HotU. Since my henchman isn't a part of that adventure, I decided it was best to leave him behind in the Planes. :-)
Stuck outside the Library in the Ancient Fortress. Librarian is now my friend, but he doesn't offer me much by way of conversation! Cannot cheat my way by the door and there doesn't seem to be any way to get through. Went outside and nothing doing. Oh well...
If I ever were to update this, I'll lower the XP gain and/or maybe remove some fights (or even areas). The PC should not gain more than 3-4 levels with this mod, meaning (s)he should start HotU at level 16 max. Doing all quests and killing very many monsters can take a character all the way to level 18, IIRC.
