This is the Developer's Zone for the A Dance with Spies project.
It is intended for developers, contributors and testers to download intermediate releases and discuss new features, bugs etc. freely without spoiling them to the gamers.

Possible bug:
I've played through four times now, and the 108 release looks like it has a problem with Imoen not showing up to her date with Sharna. I've tried following the exact order of the walkthrough, and doing things in my own sequence, and Imoen just never shows up.
Just enter the flat and exit again. Then go to the Maidenhead.
Fixed in the stable version.
I had the same problem with Imoen. I tried going in to the toolset to see if I could fix it, but I couldn't figure out which script needed to be run. You've got some impressive programming work in there! Difficult and time-consuming to figure out though. If you have a second, any tips on which files to start from when trying to read how you made things work? I tend to learn a lot for my own building when I read the scripts from other modules.
Here are the major files out of my mind:
commons and npc are the major include files, activity is also important.
general_on_conv is the gerneral conversation script that handles busy and eavesdropping
flat_enter and betah_enter handle the intermission
flat_enter is what makes all the flat intermissions. That's the core of the "flat" user experience.
flat_schedule_im and betah_schedule_im are the main schedulers.
The mechanism around cc (chain conv), dd (dialog decisions) and the dialog "end conversation" (*_ec) scripts drastically reduce the number of scripts needed to create multi-linear dialogs.
And last, but not least, I'd like to guide your attention towards my dialog compiler, which allows to write dialogs in text files instead of inside the clumsy Aurora Toolset.

Solution for the Sharna/Imoen bug. I got it in an email from PRWO
You don't need a debug command. Just re-entrer the flat or the library.
The debug command would be "dm_runscript flat_schedule".
I hope you guys get this module worked out so that Valine would play it and then at least give a short review of what she thinks about it. Same as you guys, I wouldn't mind seeing another adventure by her.
Maybe a story seed of a girl brought up by rangers out near the Sleeping Troll Inn who gets seperated from everyone after the Betancuria invasion. Or a druid that changes into animal form and has to contend with attracting the other species.
Maybe a sorceress in Ravenstower who after the abuses in those parts rises to great power and forms a castle made of Ice and becomes an evil Ice witch not of her own choosing, but one who is feared and respected none the less.
The thing about these types of characters I mention is that they are female and I couldn't see anyone, but Valine writing about them. If ADwR had been a story written by a male fantasing about a female I would never have gotten through the first scene with Vico.
The draw to you guys story is that ADwS has the same components, but you respectfully refrain from trying to mimic the feminine energy that Valine released in her module ADwR.
You add vulnerabilities to the male protagonist and allow him to close up in dialogue like the scene with his wife. This is especially believeable because I see many of us guys grabbing food and avoiding a conversation of why we got emotional at the breakfast table. I think you should continue in this direction. It makes the protagonist seem more dimensional and not so much of a wimp. I imagine a male character played out in the way that he fights and keeps himself from not being vulnerable to the world around him. Instead, the world becomes emotionally vulnerable to him. He is a Prince and not a Princess. That sort of thing.
All in all, this module is looking really good.

By the way, I hope that Valine would enjoy playing ADWS too, but unfortunately I have never received feedback from her.
What I enjoyed about ADWR was this vivid immersion with the characters and how you could interact with the world.
I think everyone would like to see Valine's input on anything, but she(he) has been gone for many years. Think everyone would have loved to see a Dance with Rogues continued, but it's pretty safe to say that shipped sailed long ago.
I love a Dance with Spies and I think it's as close as we're ever going to get to ADwR. I still applaud and am amazed that prwo has kept up with it after all these years.
I honestly doubt that we will hear from Valine ever again. When I started ADWS, what must be over 10 years back by now (oh my, time flies by), she was gone already.
Something serious must have stopped her from even communicating. Believe me, you don't just disappear after you've put that much effort into a project like ADWS.
Here is a list of things of suggestions going from easy to hard. I don't know how well they work in the grand scheme of things.
-A conversation/eavesdropping with Kane in the temple at home. It'll give you an insight into Kane's relationship with Lisa as he prays for guidance.
-A conversation with the ghost in the "Dancing Cat" in Betancuria. Plus two additional pieces of dialogue when entering said building for two companions.
-Chances to improve your relationship with Melissa. (Existing dialogue given impact.)
-A possibility to get a romance blooming between Kane and Bull which would have an additional chance of success if Melissa likes you. Basically you don't need to persuade her to "go along" with your scheme, but if she likes you enough you won't have to do so.
-If Kane and Bull were to get into a relationship, Kane would eventually tell his wife that he wishes to divorce her. From a story viewpoint I think it'd work best if Kane owns the house, which causes a distraught Lisa to arrive at your place. From this point on you would be able to start to improve your relationship with Lisa like giving her flowers (since buying flowers right now no longer has a purpose after buying Kate flowers once). Playing your cards right, this could also bolster your relationship with Kate as the two discuss dresses they saw (eavesdrop for this and then visit the shop near your house to buy them). The idea/catch is that if Taris is at your place there won't be any free beds, so Lisa will have to sleep with you and Kate. Of course, a gentleman will find that he cannot convince Kate to intimacy while a jerk (who didn't invite Taris to stay at their place) may find himself sleeping in the guest room.

Interesting thought, but more difficult to implement. A romance has always a lot of influence on other dialogs, reactions from the other characters, etc.
What does Melissa have to do with a romance between Kane and Bull?
That's a possible option given that Kane indeed owns the place and given that this marriage (like most in Khondir) is just a functual one.
In fact if Kane were to enter a new relationship, he'll divorce Lisa. But she wouldn't be devastated about this - just have to find a new place.
Let's just avoid this cliche. Kate is more pragmatic than that.

I like that. Consequences for intrusive behavior. It could also be the arm-chair in the living room where the player is banned to.

My idea was that after you leave Betancuria a second time you arrive at the old cult's site you can try to get a rest. Persuading Kane directly would be difficult, but Melissa had an injury which inhibited her movement. I think it'd also be nice if helping her/getting on her good side actually matters.
Imoen and Sharna would take up Sharna's old living quarters, Melissa (and Taris if you brought her) would stay in the hallway and Kane and Bull would be in the adjecent room "defending the women".

Well, any gift ideas would do. I am not sure what else Kate could want that she doesn't already have though.

A shame, I'd love to see Kate bring home someone for a change and I think it'd make sense considering the circumstances.
Nice stuff, I wonder if are any plans for(or maybe some of these are already included in this version).
- A romance with Taris. I've found the girl to be IMO one of the most likeable characters in the mod and I think it would be great if she got a full fledged romance with an ending that depends on the players actions. With the happiest/more satisfying requiring the most work. It would be great.
- Expand the relationship with Kate by making your previous decisions having an impact on how the relationship develops.
- Maybe some more character's reactions depending on your choices in previous chapters.
-Possibly give some extra options in discussions by having a particularly high charisma or intelligence socre which allows for some new outcome and expands roleplaying possibilities.

Can be part of quest or events np: we can take dog for walk evening with kate/taris/ lisa after divorce(before divorce we can meet her and start build relationship, take her to dinner, buy gift or flower). With taris this can be part of romance, with kate and other can be talks or sex events. In quest "trouble in temple" we rescued kate, but this can be beginning of bigger quest, some cultists who survive slaughter in temple are back and they want take control of temple of oi, they kidnap kate because she is a mistress, and with the aid of a dog we have find clues and rescue her.
Or we can involve in a few demons and did not get a dog but hellhound (in end of ADWR module princess can get hellhound, demon explains that we need to feed it with blood and mate with him. We're a guy and mating is not available but we still need to feed him with our blood). When Kate is kidnapped we must save her, then we are caught by demons, succubus or something, during our captivity we train as sex slave and learn new sex skill, some time later we escaped but we find that we have some demonic power which we can improve when we have sex with women, we can get np: tail, small horns, bigger penis, better sex stamina. After we save kate and when develop some power we can take a position in temple of oi (np. overseer)or to challenge kate and take the place of the master of the temple.
Romance with Taris
I have a idea.
In beginning this can be a conversation(in the kitchen while preparing dinner together) taris may be curious how Kate feels as our wife, after the event with a mirror for safety kate can watch taris while she take a bath, out of curiosity she can peek it and see how taris found her wooden penis and how it is used. After returning from Betancuria kate will be questioning taris did she fulfill obligations as a second wife. The event will end with a triangle with Kate and taris in bed after taris can sometimes come sleep in our bed, or we can invite ourselves.
I dont know in what part of game divorce be implanted but after this she can be down and she want be close with her best friends. Imoen and Sharana they are love each other, may want to find their own apartment, and will find it next to ours. Because they live right next to us some dialogues may remain unchanged, but the string part will require changes.(but it may be too much change to do)

Although it could be a nice asset, the whole dog thing shouds very difficult to implement - and to integrate into the existing storyline.
I agree that there should be some conversation between Taris and Kate about what happened in Betancuria.
Divorce isn't implemented because basically a lot of events focus on the flat. If you are divorced you can't enter flat.

Are there any plans to add more discipline checks to the sex scenes? It was a feature I really liked and was hoping to see more off. I was thinking it could be a neat idea to have consistent failures of discipline checks to add to kates want to cuckold the PC.

Actually there should be something like a dynamic counter that counts sexual interactions in a time window and should influence if the PC "can do it again or not".

Scripting is really not the problem. That would be only a few lines of code.
Texting and refactoring all the existing texts is what's time intensive.
The same goes for the Discipline checks.
I see. So I won't expect to see it added anytime soon. Like I said it's a shame but there's so much other good content that get added it's not the end of the world.

Whenever I sleep in the bed on v109 I keep having the Kate and Lisa sewer scene starting. Not sure if anyone else is having this?
Yeah, same here. I got that when I played the first version of 109. Should of said something, but I thought your testers might of emailed you about it. There's certain scenes that cancel it out, though, like the Kate drunk scene. That sewer scene plays even at the start of the game as soon as you sleep.
I kept reloading when I got that scene and never saw it all the way through, as I thought it was a bug. They were talking about the temple and what not even before I had met Sharna or Imoen.
Yes, that's a bug and I've fixed it now.
Consider it's the Alpha version, which means it is not tested at all.
Also, Prwo, I noticed when I played a while ago that my eavesdropping feat is failing all the time in the Kate and Lisa drunk talks now. Is the eavesdrop skill stat based now, or do you have to use it more often to get better at it? Just curious.
It's still an AutoDC of level DC_MEDIUM on SKILL_MOVE_SILENTLY.

Hello there. I made an account just to ask a some things and give my thoughts on ADWS.
Firstly, Kate. Is there a way to avoid her cuckolding the PC? I went through with a character that was as loving a husband as the game allowed him to be but her main hang-up seems to be that the PC always leaves her alone to do his job if that "dream" sequence (grr) I got in Betancuria is to be believed... which I can't really do anything about, aside from not progressing the story... and she acted real weird when I got her ring back. What's up with that?
Ssecondly, the Temple of Oi. What exactly is there to do there? I didn't see any option other than watching people have sex.
Thirdly, I know it (currently) happens right at the end of the module but as a Special Ops guy shouldn't the PC find it a little suspicious and puzzle out that his wife is cheating on him?
Anyway... with that out of the way...
I'd give this module a solid 8 at it's current version... 9 if there was a way to prevent Kate from cuckolding the PC. (It bothered me, okay? I don't do well with that. It makes me sad. :P) I think Kate should remain a safe-spot for the player. A character that doesn't get involved with anything too extreme that might not suit the player's taste - that's what we have the other 4 girls for, right? Although I feel a bit bad for poor Taris... never want to whore that poor girl out.
The (other) main reason I don't think it's as perfect as ADWR is that there's a LOT of rape/cheating with pretty much only a focus on things relating to sex. The PC doesn't seem to have a long-term goal either, just getting random side jobs; getting that ring was probably the biggest end game goal but I kinda lost the will to do it after the cuckolding.
Speaking of the PC... he's pretty darn useless, ain't he? He's basically the Princess during the first half of her story... for the entirety of his. Hell, he's not even as good as that what with the Princess being able to so easily dupe him in Betancuria.
Imoen next... I smiled when I first saw her, thinking she was a passing Baldur's Gate nod and was actually pleasantly surprised when she moved in and became an actual main character... but that feeling slowly crumbled as she kept going on and on about her "free love" ideology - especially since there didn't seem to be a real voice against it (except Kate, but she's a massive hypocrite)... And I felt like Imoen became a little Mary Sue'ish ("I'm his Guardian Angel") but I guess it's only to be expected with how long she's lived... and how incompetent the PC seems to be. Someone needed to step up.
Other than those things I thoroughly enjoyed the module. The way a lot of sex was portrayed through text rather than animations is definitely one of its biggest draws. The first half, the bits before the time skip, I would probably give a 10 because I felt like it was perfect. I found it fun to come home and see their silly hijinks and made it my duty to be as loving a husband as possible to make up for how the PC apparently used to be... but then the excessive rape/sex (and that cuckolding) got to me and I was left with a sour feeling. If the focus on sex was toned down a bit, a main objective was established and the PC stopped being completely and utterly replaceable (I swear he could die and no one would care after a day or two) then it'd definitely be on par with ADWR (which I consider a masterpiece) but I don't think I'll like the direcion it seems to be taking (ambassador = more time away = more cuckolding).
I write a lot so giant walls of incoherent text tend to happen. Sorry. Take it as me being passionate about ADWS and hoping it'll remain something I can still enjoy as it progresses.
TL;DR 8/10. I liked it, except for the excessive sex/rape and especially the cuckolding (I bet you couldn't tell I dislike that in particular :P) but I understand some people have those fetishes... but a way to avoid them would be swell. :D

Currently you can witness some events. The temple of Oi is the buildup for a story arc in V109. The people there are merely background decoration.

You are the PC. Did you notice her cheat on you? Obviously yes. So, detecting it is not the problem.
The problem is that you don't have any options to act on this situation... yet, which is done in V109.

And that is exactly the part I liked most about ADWR. The city adventure. The lessons. The side quests.
Personally (and that is just my opinion) I found the second part, where the princess chases to Moonville, rather boring compared to the first one.

It won't be turned down. This is an adult module and sex will be part of it.
However, other options will be turned up so that "the one thing" doesn't become too overmighty.

I break with tradition here. You are not the epic hero. The whole world doesn't revolve around your PC and you are not supposed to save it. You are just a guy who tries to cope up with his life, which is difficult enough.

Looking back on it I really did enjoy the first part of ADWR more than the second and I can (and I think did, until I got sidetracked by other things) get behind the PC just being another dude in a big ol' world - I just thought he seemed a little too incompetent at his job, which he had been presumably trained for much longer than the Princess, although that is easily handwaved by his amnesia/poor comparions/me being way too harsh on the poor dude. :P

ADWS 109 is going Beta
I've upleaded the ADWS 109 beta file. Beta means that all features have been implemented, each tested on its own, but not been tested as a whole.
What comes now is Testing & Reporting:
Testing: Play through the game, especially the new features that are listed in BASE\Checklist.txt, but also take heed of influences the new features may have on old features. Try to do odd things.
Reporting: If you come accross something odd, something that doesn't seem right or something that isn't working (all with respect to what the features are about) report it as a reply to this thread. In the past we've done this per email, but since we have this beautiful new forum here try to post it. You can still send long reports (like e.g. list of typos) per email to p r w o ~A~T~ g m x ~d~o~t~ net.
What's new? (see BASE\Checklist.txt)
Note: The fancy dreams will come independently of the PC's faithfullness. Afterwards you can talk with Kate and they will turn out true or not depending on your own adultery.
Note: The KateSharnaIntermission (after first Betancuria) is unavoidable.
There have been a lot of dialog changes in this release, but still something might have been overlooked or forgotten. So please heed if some NPC "talks out of order".

In the dialog when Sharna gets expelled from school, there is an option to reply to Kate with something like "You mean your little incident with Sharna." I still get this dialog option even though I haven't been to BET yet and caught Sharna and Kate in the act on my return. And there is a few mentions in the same dialogue that assumes you have been gone for a long time. I.E to BET, when I haven't.
Minor thing, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Hmm, can't seem to find anything relating to what I mentioned. Must of read it wrong.
There's a few errors I've noticed in the Imoen-Kate intermission talks at the table. I get this as a conversation:
As you can see, the flat_ksi_has_imo and flat_ksi_is_scol is showing in the conversation. And it also assumes I Demanded them to stop when I came back from BET. Even though I didn't demand them to stop but joined instead. The tricky thing is: I'm not really sure if I saw the flat_ksi_has_imo error in this talk or in another Imoen-Kate talk. But that flat_ksi_is_scol error defientely triggered, I can remember that much. I'll see if I can go back to an earlier save and reproduce it again.
Had a look at the flat_kii_ed.dlgsrc file to see what was wrong, but it just turned me crossed eyed.
FIXED. These are conditional scripts that control if the line is to be shown.
It's a typical typo. In the dlgsrc it should be ?flat_ksi_has_imo. If you forget the '?' you get the result you described. I have now added the ? in flat_bed.dlgsrc and flat_kii_ed.dlgsrc and they should be correct now.
Uploaded a new version with fixes so far.

FIXED. The problem was that when you entered the Delberg Orc Camp Barracks after the Orc Camp quest the barrack dialogs dc_bar_girl?_bc were assigned again. You should have seen some assertions. Now the dialogs are only assigned until you reunite.

After you had the dream about Kate being ambushed you get a journal entry "Temple Trouble" with "I had a terrible dream...".
The Temple of Sune folks don't have an own journal entry. That's just another intermission.

This is a randomized, optional intermission.
You can get it as long as Sharna is not thrown out of school AND you come home at home time, which is from 17:00 to 22:00.
Since it is a randomized intermission, there may be other intermissions being prioritized over this.

FIXED. That comment in timeleap is now based on your decision to let Sharna run around naked.

With the repetitive cuckold flat scenario it will go through both the imoen options and the fuck really hard option then seems to get stuck on the no cuckoldry today. Haven't seen the grading papers option turn up. Is that a bug or does it need some other variable first?

FIXED. The grading papers scenario wasn't set correctly.

I quite like the idea that she was just an insatiable wife. Is it Kate's now adulterous to get back at the PC? What about the instances where there's no way of Kate knowing of the PC's unfaithfulness or has that been addressed?

You can still go for the insatable wife theme by chosing the cuckold option at KateSharnaIntermission and then approve Kate's fantasies in the flat_bed talk.

No.
Kate's adutery should be described in the dialogs as a reaction of the PC's neglection. (If you find an example otherwise, please report.)
In fact Kate's tendencies to commit adultery should be indirectly proportional to the PC's relationship level with her. If you neglect her, she'll commit adultery. But that's difficult to implement and thus not implemented.
It was easier to simply base it on the PC's sexual encounters. It is not a "revenge" thing. It is more a "why is it OK for you, but not for me?" thing or a "you do it, I do it, so what?" thing.

Kate just assumes the PC committed adultery (as he did in the past).
