Question about Castle Crossing (spoilers) :
Since there is apparently something time sensitive with this quest, or some actions that need to be taken in a particular order, would someone mind providing a bit of explanation ?
What happened with me while playing this :
- i got emprisoned after the baron died, got out of my cell, met his son who invited me to dinner, found the Kraken and all secret passages underground, and the escape boat.
- i never found Terek and Claile meeting together and met Claile only once (just after arriving, when everyone is in the main hall and still alive). Terek was never in his tower and i met him only one more time after our initial meeting upon arriving.(see below)
- i found about the hostages and where they are, but never managed to meet them. Maybe i was supposed to report to the Dhorn envoy ?
- When i found Dana's brother killed in his own room, Terek and some guards rushed me and attacked. Terek soon teleported away, we killed the guards and everyone turned hostile, so i decided to cut my loss and use the escape boat.
- never managed to find what was supposed to happen with the adventurers at the inn.
Sooo... how did you do this quest, and how did it turn out for you ?
*** SPOILER ***
Order is important (especially you have to find Terek&Claile before you talk to Castias)
- escape prison (unlock door yourself or rest)
- find Terek&Claile in the 'basement' (search the prison area - this explains what happens at the castle)
- talk to Castias (you get invited for dinner the next day)
- come back the next day
- you get attacked by Terek, the baron's brother and some guards
- talk to the dhorn emissary, tell him you may have convinced Castias to hand over the castle
-follow the dhorn into Castias room (prepare for a fight)
- revive Castias (+ Dana + Baron)
- get Claile (only possible if you had found Terek&Claile in the basement)
- find Terek
- leave the castle
The three adventurers are there to help you in the fights. Be careful where you take them as they may leave or turn against you. Also they may influence how you leave the castle.
Thank you Kamiryn, i'll try to proceed this way next time :)
>get Claile (only possible if you had found Terek&Claile in the basement)
That's the correct order of doing things. The first time I played this I confronted the Ambassador with the papers found in his desk and killed him before I found dead Castias -> This leads to an unresolvable situation and the Quest is "busted".
But where can I find Claile?? Never seen her again after the scene in the cellar.
Thank you for this great overhaul. I believe I found an exploit. When enchanting both armour and weapon, if you do not have enough gold, an item will still be created and stored in the inventory of an NPC, which you can steal and sell in the guild, giving you basically an indefinite amount of gold.
Hi
Many thanks for this latest version.
I just tried to play, but at the very start when we get to the pub, the cut scene hangs and nothing happens. I had to kill NWN via the Task Manager.
Is there something I have done wrong or is there a workaround for this problem? Also, in case it is relevant, the start of the cut scene in the castle, everything shakes.
Any help or suggestions will be very welcome.
I just tried it again and found that the issue is with camara positioning. I changed the view (zoomed out) during the Vico scene and now when I get to the pub I can see the conversations that are happening. So all is working.
Seems like some automated view when you get to the pub could resolve this problem.
Is this necessary to play the module on the Enhanced Edition? Also, a list of the changes made would be greatly appreciated!
Let me first say to Valine that this is one of the best RPGs I've ever played -- and I've played a lot! The pacing, setting and story are all fantastic, and the whole thing is refreshingly different from the typical AAA RPG. I rarely replay RPGs but I went through the original ADWR twice and was delighted to see an updated version posted. Thanks so much for all your work!
Second, a question for anyone who might be able to help... (Spoilers follow, highlight to reveal)
I've played through the quest "Kingdom of Shadows" up until it looks like I either need to sell the book to Jacia or give it to the priest on the Isle of the Dead. It seemed like the chaotic evil approach would be to hang on to the book, though -- Jacia intimated that to go through the process outlined in the fane way images I might need to summon a demon. So I held on to the book and continued on through the game, thinking that keeping it might trigger a story-advancing encounter later and/or it might come in handy when I went to Hyath's Temple.
I just wrapped up Hyath's temple, though, and the arc of the quest there seemed similar to the original version of the module: I spoke to the shadow at the altar, took the ring, then had the option of summoning Hyath in the inner sanctum. I tried going the "betray Chris and Myra" route, thinking that the ensuing conversation might advance the fane way storyline, but Hyath offered me the standard reward of XP/gold/etc. and that was that. I left the temple and returned to Betancuria without further incident.
At that point I broke down and checked the Toolset, and it looks like I did miss something. I was able to hunt down some scripts (like do_hyath) that I definitely missed, and it looks like LocalInt HyathTalk goes to "3" at the end of the Chalice Quest and I missed some Hyath-related actions that use it in the "2" state.
I'm not sure if it is possible to get from the toolset "what object/trigger/conversation is this script attached to?", because if that can be done I could probably trace out precisely what I missed. But as it stands I'm not sure how I can pin down where the scripts in question are supposed to come into play, and my undirected searching through the module hasn't yielded much insight beyond what I outlined above.
(end spoilers)
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Hello Lujan,
thank you for your feedback!
As it stands, there is no connection between the Temple of Hyath and the Kingdom of Shadows quest. The scripts you saw in the toolset are fragments of older versions.
Bad housekeeping, I know.
I understand completely -- thank you so much for the quick response! :D
@Lujan
>>I'm not sure if it is possible to get from the toolset "what object/trigger/conversation is this script attached to?"
Afaik you will not get this information from the toolset. to find the info requires a bit of searching through the files I.e. If you want to know to which dialogue a script is attached, you need to do a binary search through all *.dlg files in the mod (use grep or something similar). Then you probably want to know, to which character thie dialogue you found is attached, so you need to search for the dialogue name in all *utc files and maybe in the *.git (areafile ... if the character is already placed with individual settings).
A bit tedious, but can be done. And maybe somebody knows a better method.
First, thank you so much for revamping and revitalizing my favorite campaign of all time. However, I did find one particular bug, after winning at dice in the sewers hideout and leaving the table, Dara and Kenny just dissapear.
Now, after delievering the dead cat to Ters. Jacia is also no longer at the sewer hideout.
Jacia's only available during her "office hours"; she leaves the Hideout around hour 18/19 (probably to do something quite nefarious).
Silly Jacia.
Found a bug, perhaps - got the Spotted quest, told the man to meet me at his house. Went directly there, there was no one in it. Looted it, went back to Nathan, princess says she took care of it, gets 50 xp, quest still shows open in the journal.
Possible bug:
Castle Crossing: Castias keeps dying when trying to leave his room after being raised. This is the 1st time this has happened for me.
A suggestion:
Make Alfons the quest giver for Dhorn Slayer.Otherwise it will likely not be solved.
OK, can I get a couple of hints.
Undertow,
Punisher: ( cant find the carpenter)
and Missing citizens.
And I love the foreshadow for the next part.
OK, can I get a couple of hints.
Undertow,
Punisher: ( cant find the carpenter)
and Missing citizens.
And I love the foreshadow for the next part.
- Punisher : the carpenter's already dead, and you can find his body in prison. Just bring back his head.
- Missing Citizens : go to the Isle of Dead, in the northern corner, at night (if i remember correctly). you'll meet someone in need of help. He'll provide the means to enter the tower in southern part of the Isle of dead (it's on a separate islet). You should take this one quite late in the game, after having completed most/all of the available quests from the hideout, but before searching for Pia. In particular, finish the Dhorn Slayer quest before entering the tower.
Punisher: I searched the prison. nothing there
A head is there :) Turn it in and you will be enlightened :)
Hey there. It seems that I have encountered a stopping point in the Golden Chalice quest. There's a glowing door just past the Undead Priest and Paladin which requires a specific key, but I seem to unable to find it anywhere. I have gone looking all over the temple I can access and tried hugging all the walls I could in hopes of finding some sort of secret door but it seems that I completely stuck. Is there something I missed or there's some sort of specific thing that needs to be done in order to open it?
There are secret doors on the left and right side of the main room (not the room with the undead paladin and the glowing door, the large one just before that one). Taking the right secret door (when facing towards the room with the glowing door) will get you to several room, one of which you can lock yourself inside to get some rest..
Taking the left secret door will lead to an area with several cells. Be careful to explore the cell area, there are four of them but only the two rightmost are visible at first. The cell on the farthest to the left has a hole you will climb down (with a rope) to bypass the door.
In addition to what Penombre said I just want to note that you will only spot hidden doors with a successful Search skill check. So if you haven't been putting many points into Search skill, you may have a hard time spotting secret doors. You may have or be able to acquire items that will boost your search skill. There's a few amulets for sale in the jewelry shops that boost skills.
HELP!!! I GET STUCK! T_T
Please 2acornupper, if you read this, tell me how to proceed the A Brave New World quest. I made my way to the North wing of the Betancuria castle and Simon speaks with the men and leaves with them, I am now alone again but have no way of getting out the castle and trigger the following even with Alfons. According to the wiki I should climb up a ladder in the North wall, but there is no ladder in my game! This is so heart breaking as I have been enjoying the story so far.
WARNING: DO NOT get this enhanced edition if you are new to everything and have never completete this module before. Chances are you will need the walkthrough, but this module change up things so the wiki won't be able to help you, and it become impossible to play. Just get the original edition.
This enhaced edition breaks and glitch left and right like no tommorrow , making it night impposible to play blind. Sometime neccessary items won't spawn (First chapter, lesson with the 3 rings, it spawn the worng rings), sometime events will play out completely different with the wiki (the Caslte under siege, for example). Maps are different too - like the sewer (this cause me to get lost since I cannot for the life of me find the hideout) and a lot of minimap missing important pins (ex: Academy in Old Town). Sometime events just plain won't trigger.
Another thing make me absolutely NOT reccomended this to new player, is that the game is very cryptic in telling you what to do next, so lot of time you just waste time not knoing where to go (the journal never tell you enough). Worse, you may go somewhere you are not supposed to go yet, breaking the game and get stuck. (The game do not have any way to notify or prevent you from doing such things)
Even with the Debug mode and cheat code enabled I still get stuck a lot. I'm dead afraid eveytime I got stuck, because I cannot be sure that is normal gameplay, or the game just breaks on me : ((
Again: Seriouly just get the normal edition if you are new, even though it may look a bit old school.
Ignore the wiki, it refers to the old module by Valine and many things are outdated, and some quests totally different.
In Betancuria Castle, if i remember correctly, i was just inside the North wing when i met Simon's guards, who gave me back my equipment, and then i was left alone. I kept inside the north wing, passed near the vault entrance (which i avoided, i thought that Arto and company could still be inside) and after some exploration, i finally found my way out. Sorry, i don't remember the details right now.
you got your equipment back? I never have.
After Simon leaves, leave the building through the near door. You will need to stau in stealth mode as all the Dhorn are hostile, even in the city.
Go west. There is a large wall making a square in the SW corner of the castle clearing. In the North wall, there is a pull down chain near a door. Pull the chain to open the door.
Make your way south to the south wall. You wil find the door you left earlier open. Go through it and follow the path. You will be in a house on Temple street.
Your home in 2 Acorn has 4 Dhorn commandos is you want to head there.
Make your way into the Harbor district, out the Southern gate, head east to find the rowboats.
Thank you so much gumby. I tried to do that and it works (never get my gear back as well). Let's see how far I can get before I get completely stuck again.
Do you by chance know how to finish the Castle under siege quest? I got to the part where after the baron died, Pia and I get locked in the cells. Some cloaked guys come up and we kill them. I sneak out to meet Castia, he tell me he will tell the guard we a re innocent and then invite us for dinner.
After this what do I do next? cause I tried go to the inn, sleep there unitl sunrise and go meet Castia again but he is dead in his room. Once I entered I get swamped by terek+the guards and we die everytime, so I presumed that is the worng course of action, but then what do I do?
In the end I'm so sick of it that I , er, cheated by teleporting to the hideout (Debug command for the win) and speak to Alfons to skip the quest. It is still marked as uncompleted in the journal though, so I pray that it does not break anything else later down the line.
I really tried to enjoy the game, but it is just really hard sometimes, sigh
That is the right course of action. You should be able to survive. It might require some planning. What is your character build? I tend to like mage/rogue builds. So I cast stoneskin on Pia and blast away. If you have poison, that should also help. This is a tough battle.
After that battle, speak to the Dhorn emmisary and say that you could have convinced Castias. You will have another tough battle after someone recognizes you.(I really think there should be a disguise self option.)
After that battle, you find a rod of 9 lives. Raise castias. You will need to take him to the tombs. Raise the Baron, and his daughter. Go to the secret room below Terek's tower (where you saw Terek with Timmins wife). Then go up to to top of the Terik's tower to confront Terek.
If you need some combat gear, go the the Baron's closet and there is a nice set of armor, sword, and gauntlets.
Thank a lot for your help, I get to part 2 but lost the Rod in the process (at the end of part 1 they never give me back my stuff). Now I'm in the abandoned mine and I need to ressurect the guy in there. I spawn the rod through Debug command, but it said the rod is unidentified and I can't equip it to use. Do you know how to solve this?
I have not gone onto part 2. It does not match up well with the changes in part 1 V2.
That said, I think you get another rod on the body of the drow. Search the mine some more and you will find it.
Thank you so much for your guide. I was able to load up part 2 and finish the game. Part 2 is much more stable and smooth, except for about 4-5 hidden doors that does not work: I would just click on the door but my princess is not able to walk to it and open the door (must be something like the doors or the interation boxes are positioned too far back into the wall.
Now that I finished the game, I would like to see different outcome of different romances. Do you know what the variable for each character romance are? I would like to manipulate them through console command. Tried to look it up in the wiki but found nothing.
Use a Lore Potion, or go see Pia and ask her to identify the rod if you can (provided she's got enough bard levels). Else, you'll have to get back to a store and pay 100 gold to get the rod identified.
Be aware that Part Two has few ties to the game you've just finished. The original author of the two ADWR modules, Valine, extensively reworked them, but the latest iteration of part one had some new things (like Simon for example), and then, Valine dropped out of sight, and Part Two wasn't updated to follow up with those changes.
And the game you've just finished, by 2acorn, is a rework of the latest part one. We hope that 2acorn will make his own part two one of these days, but right now, even though the currently available part two is a fine mod in itself, you'll get no follow up for some things started in part one.
(the good news is : the wiki should be more helpful for Valine's part Two than for 2Acorn's part One)

They are the same person...
TR
Yeah, i keep forgetting about that :)
I just finished this module and thought I'd reiterate my earlier comment -- I really enjoyed the revisions in this version of the module. I look forward to seeing the changes in part 2 if Valine ever chooses to release an update to it.
Also, a couple bugs (in 2.01; maybe these were fixed in the recent update to 2.02...):
In castle crossing, when entering the room to find Castias dead, Pia always commented on his being dead but sporadically the body and treaty weren't there. I resolved the issue by reloading the save or leaving and re-entering the area, though I needed to try several times for it to work.
On a similar note, I never got to have a conversation with the Baron about my identity as the Princess, though he did say we'd "discuss this later" or something to that effect when I revived him in the crypt and had the option to assert my true identity. (I'm not sure if that is a bug or just a realistic way for the Baron to say "yeah yeah..."). Maybe I missed a necessary dialogue somewhere else in order to trigger a more significant discussion about the PC being the princess before leaving the castle? If it matters, I brought Claile up to confront Terek, then the baron killed Terek, everyone killed Claile, and I was invited to talk to the Baron when I was ready to leave. It seemed at that point there was nothing to do but go talk to him, at which point I was sent off on a boat.
I thought I was going to be able to return to the vault to get my goodies after Simon left the Betancuria castle, but the entrance was forbidden; my PC said something about it being a bad idea. So I wasn't able to recover my gear -- though maybe I was supposed to find a different way? It occured to me that this might've been intentional; the rest of the game could be completed naked and with no gear and it'd be a clever way to remove some of the strong gear some players might have going into Part 2... but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Speaking personally, I had about 250,000 gold and was able to reequip in the city before leaving, though my armor and weapon were definitely much worse than the ones I lost!
Finally, the last cutscene kept tripping up with the NPCs attacking my character instead of doing what it is they're supposed to do, even though I was invisible, invincible, and immobile (I saw a stream of those orange "0"s indicating no damage as they attacked my position). I checked out the dialogue in the toolset instead, so I'm not personally anxious to see a resolution here, but I thought I'd mention it in case a fix could help out someone else down the line.
Thanks again for releasing and now updating this module!
You can find your items on a cart in the courtyard guarded some dhorn guards.
Good to know, thanks!
Has anyone tried using the PRC with this? I would love ti have an arcane trickster.
I never even realized there was a PRC mod for NWN1. From searching the vault I've only been able to find hakpaks for individual classes like Samurai... Is there something on here with multiple classes?
I'm completely stumped on a couple of the new sidequests and I'd appreciate if someone could tell me where to look:
For "Risky Business", I cannot find the Dhorn officer armor anywhere. I killed both of the generals for the "Dhorn Slayer" quest and Simon, but none of them dropped any armor. I also feel like I searched every building in Western Betancuria and never found any Dhorn officer armor.
For "Punisher" I cannot find either of the people I'm supposed to kill. I assume they're somewhere in Western Betancuria (Merchant's district) but haven't come across these people.
There's one building that I cannot enter. It's near the sign for "Maiden's Way" and I can open the door but there's no clickable area transition to actually enter the building. I wonder if that might have something to do with these quests.
I've also been unable to enter the Blue Swan. Not sure if that's part of some quest I'm supposed to receive but I've seen posters around town. However, no matter what outfit I wear they won't let me into the building.
For getting the armor you have to enter the Blue Swan.
One of the people you have to kill is somewhere in the restricted area, the other one is I think in the next update :D.
To enter the Blue Swan you need to know about the Blue Swan (read one of the posters), you have to pass an easy bluff check and you have to wear an outfit with no AC bonus.
Thanks. I was playing an older game without the latest updates and I think the bluff check didn't display the number so I wasn't sure if it was actually possible. Now with a new game I can see that I need to have at least a 6 in bluff to pass it.
For Risky Business I forget what dress I wore to get into the Blue Swan -- I want to say it was one of Tony's and that it might have mattered what accessories I put on with it (heels vs. flats etc.). Depending on your CHA score you might want a treatment from the beauty palace, too.
Also, to enter the blue swan you need to have clicked on the posters for it. There are several around in the merchants quarter, and one on the wall nxt to the Blue Swan/.
- Risky Business : enter the Blue Swan after having clicked on a poster and making sure you're pretty, and you'll get involved in a game. Win the game, then steal the armor once it becomes available.
- Punisher : one of your targets is inside the basement of a house, in Western Betancuria, in the restricted area. Search inside the houses you can get in (target is not in Simon's or the two generals' houses).
- Maiden's Way doesn't ring a bell for me. What part of town is it ?
Maiden's Way is in Western (Merchant's) District. The building I can't enter is right next to the street sign. Just across from the Old Town Hall (Dhorn Headquarters) in the restricted area.
If i've read you correctly, there is a door across the street from the entrance to the old Town Hall (where you can find Quin). In the toolset, this door is labelled as "merchantdoor" but there is no area transition tied to it, so, it is likely an overlook from the mod's creator.
Speaking about the Merchant Quarter. Has anyone found out something about the north-east cordoned off area, where a dangerous killer is supposed to prowl ? I've sneaked in and never found if the killer was in there.
Spoiler!!! ABOUT KILLER IN THE CORDONED AREA IN MERCHANT QUARTER!!!:
In the restricted Area should be an abandoned chapel. In the catacombs of this church you find a dead Dhorn-Soldier, a hint that something is not right! There is a secret door in the catacombs leading to a trapped sarcophagus, which is guarded by two standard gargoyles. You can find a magical belt in the sarcophagus. In the same room is another secret door leading to the lair of the killer.
Beware the killer is an Orc-Scout!
He is a barbarian level 6+ and very tough. As a barbarian he has the uncanny dodge II feat, which means sneak attack is nearly useless against him. I relied heavily on seting traps to defeat him. You'll have an interesting conversation with him before the fight! If you defeat him you can loot a unique bastard sword +1 which count as a +3 weapon against humans and a mantle of shadows, which is one of the best stealth enhancing items in this module.
