The 1.2 BETA release is now available. Features include:
*Continued adding new starting weapons and armors, giving players a wide variety of new looks and weapon styles to add uniqueness to their character. You'll now be able to try out all of the new CEP-unique weapons such as the trident, sai, pick, mercurial sword, etc (unfortunately they aren't compatable with feats such as Weapon Focus and I don't have current plans to implement custom feats, so some of them will be more just for fun than practical).
*Made more minor modifications to in-game enemies and bosses; tweaked enemies' armor styles, voicesets, weapons, spells and added new ACP combat styles; each enemy and boss will now have a very distinct and memorable look and feel on the field of battle rather than just seeming like more generic "monsters" to slay.
*Started adding in-game books for the remaining of the 32 "Uber character builds" which were left out, so you'll now be able to access the guides for building your character in-game rather than having to open the PDF included with the module (writing isn't completed as of this time).
*Various other fixes and tweaks; fixed enemy alignments (some of the enemies on the Dark Army side were incorrectly Good-aligned), etc.
*Finished the models and biographies for the 10 planned new bosses, and created a new planned area "The Floating Coliseum" where the Demiurge and his champion Apollyon will be hosting a fighting tournament in which only the mightest contenders in the Arena of Champions are invited to compete. (New bosses are not finished and available to fight; but those eager for a glimpse can spot them in the toolset; current plans are possibly for one more minor update prior to the 2.0 release in which the 10 new bosses will be available to fight).
This is an enhanced update of Commche's amazing module The Arena of Champions. AOC: Redux stays faithful to the core original module with a few changes, improvements, and extra polish. Below are some of the changes:
*Integrated Ragnarok_mr4's Alternate Combat Animations Pack (v 4.0); no separate install required, simply choose the crafting option in-game and select the "change ACP style" option to change your fighting style. Also applied new fighting styles to several of the in-game bosses so you'll be in for a nice suprise.
NOTE: Avoid using the ACP styles if wearing armor which includes the new CEP tunics/robes; the animations only synch properly with unmodified HOTU-style clothing, such as HOTU mage's robes, but not CEP clothing with integrated robes. (The CEP armors with integrated capes however synch fine). Aslo note that the 4 "monk" fighting styles (Bear Claw, Dragon Palm, Tiger Fang, Sun Fist) only synch properly with unarmed characters, while "Demon Blade" only works with Human Male characters.
*Disabled the default HOTU cloaks from being visible, as they clash with the new CEP armors which include integrated capes.
*Fixed various minor text, portrait and conversation errors; tweaked some NPC portraits and voices to fit the mood better.
*Updated the outdated descriptions of the modified in-game armors, weapons, jewelry, etc; included a few more bits of text lore here and there as well.
*Added absent music tracks to module areas. No more battling to dead air. (And of course if you prefer to listen to your own music while playing, you can just disable in-game music in the options menu).
*Added a nice variety of new starting weapons and items making use of the CEP's custom content; made some minor tweaks to weapons and other items.
*Fixed the broken "Shogun Lord" boss fight in Deathmatch mode; he now uses his correct spells rather than useless low-level Bard spells. Also made a few minor tweaks to some of the bosses' weapons and spells, but nothing very noticible. And as mentioned above you'll now get to see bosses like the Bard Heretic, Divine Archer, and the Guardian Angel make dazzling use of the new ACP fighting styles.
*Likewise, any characters created or used in the origional AOC module should transfer over to Redux without any problems.
As of now, think of this as more of a much-needed patch than anything else. If you encounter any other bugs or problems that I missed, be sure to hit me up. In the future though I may expand further and include more new content, such as a "New Challengers" game mode which offers a host of brand new bosses to fight.
*Be sure to read the readme files included with the mod for gameplay instructions and hints, particularily the "Uber Build guide" for creating character builds designed to stand a chance in the Arena of Champions.
*The Uber Build guide is available in a PDF document with this download, and lists 32 different powerful character build recommendations (this information can also be found in-game via books). The builds in the PDF manual marked with an "Arena of Champions" logo are the first recommended for completing the single player Arena of Champions challenges (other builds may have a more difficult time). You are welcome, of course, to create your own unique builds too. It is recommended that beginners start with the "War Captain" build if playing against the Dark Amry, and the "Black Knight" build if playing against the Light Army.
*Remember that Good or Neutral-aligned characters will be pitted against the Army of Dark, while Evil-aligned characters will be pitted against the Army of Light. (It's recommended that beginning players attempt the Dark Army before taking on the Light Army).
*Be sure to use the AOC Player Registry board in-game to save your Arena of Champions progress (e.x. rank, defeated bosses, etc) - this allows you to resume your in-game progress simply by loading the module from scratch, and selecting your most recent saved version of your character; of course you can also simply save your games the old fashioned way from the menu as well.
