is it really cancelled, or is it only unfinished? I cant find a difference
All premium modles that didn't get officialy relased were canceled and later uploaded to the IGN vault (and yes, some may be unfinished as well).
Though the author started building part 4 but never finished it..
Let's say the adventure ends up with a minor cliffhanger.
Wrong category: the entry should be moved to modules section.
Corrected, thanks.
I've noticed playing all three of these modules that the dialogue can be a bit wonky in spots if your character is an elf. In someplaces more so than others. They really are best played with a human.
Has anyone else experienced the problem in the Arena where the cut scene, after killing the golem, never completes and the game has to be killed via the task manager?
If so, anyone know how to get around this or avoid getting the problem?
Many thanks for any help.
The bug is known and the solution can be found here: LINK TO WEB.ARCHIVE.ORG SITE
and below as well. :)
Hi Baksheesh,
Forrestwolf kindly posted the solution to this issue a month or two ago:
1) Do everything normally, but during the fight, type `DebugMode 1. Then use the period key (.) to bring up the Chooser as a DM. Open the Hillsfar Arena area, and select the Announcer. Jump him to the spot where you'll go at the start of the cutscene. Then Type `DebugMode 0.
2) Finish off the golem, and the cutscene appears to work fine.

My Blog
I am playing through AL3 now and my game has just got stuck on a cutscene.
SPOILER
In the Hillsfar Arena quest series my game freezes up just after I kill the energy golem. I see the announcer run off the podium and then nothing happens. It stays like that till I ALT+CTRL+DEL out of the game.
I have tried winning the battle with no spell effects but this doesn't seem to matter.
I have tried ending the match in different parts of the arena, but the cutscene is always from the same view.
Have you seen this before? Have any fix suggestions?
Thanks in advance (and for the fun).
Thank you so much for the workaround - fixed the problem - and many many thanks for all the hard work you have done on the AL Series - really brilliant stuff.
I've only found the workaround for this issue on web.archive.org and quoted what Alazander replied to a guy, who had experienced it before. :D
Oops - didn't notice the author was quoted :)
Thanks for the work around anyway.
Not so easy to do that on Android.
My (simpler?) solution was to save when the golem was near death, then move into the trigger on the side of the arena away from the announcer before killing it.
SPOILER As far as I can see, the golem is only vulnerable to unarmed strike.
Wow, finally finished Part 3!
Most excellent, wish there was a Part 4!
Highly recommended!
Well, you don't really have MANY choiches in this module, but it's well made though. About the "unfinished" part, well, you can complete the 'main' base quest, but surely there were some unfinshed buiseness that would have been cool to take care of.
Um, the instructions for the work-around in the Arena state, in part,
"...select the Announcer. Jump him to the spot where you'll go at the start of the cutscene...."
Well, how do we know where that is supposed to be? There are Waypoints available via the chooser; which one is it? A little more detail is needed. Thanks!
Somwhere in the arena where the fight takes place and where he won't be in the way of the fight. Just click where you want him positioned.
Thanks, Surazal!
Took a while for me to respond as internet is sporadic up here at the base of the snow-covered mountains... (9,000 feet, tops: 14,000s)
Your Instructions worked just as suggested. Module Completed. Some parts were even enjoyable ;)
Guess I should post a more articulate set of comments apart from this Thank You note...
After playing Alazander modules i gave a try to his book and must say it is really, really good, so i can honestly recommend The Grim Company to any Fantasy readers.
A shame this one was never finished--the module felt like it was just about to kick into the main part of the conflict, and then it ended abruptly. As for what we do get...it's pretty good. Crimson Tides of Tethyr is one of my favorite modules, but I'm afraid going through that module makes this one a tad too easy--that one went a little overboard with the funds/magic items available, and this one just layers more on top of that. My whole team was Hasted from the very start of this one, so very few enemies were even remotely challenging (including the bosses--I think the only one that gave any challenge used save-or-die spells). Also, there are very few meaningful choices that you can make here, so the game is very linear. I encountered the Arena bug as well, but the instructions presented in these comments did solve the issue.
Where this game shines is the storyline, which was getting quite interesting by the time the module came to a close. There are a few distinct NPCs that stand out as characters, and the lack of resolution for most of them (as well as for a certain henchman from CToT) is what makes the abrupt ending sting. This is a module that was well on its way to being a good one, but with so much left undone it's hard to give it more than an average score.
Just finished this, the storytelling and overall atmosphere is very good and immersing. If completed I think it would have been really amasing, along with a part 4 maybe. I give it a 8/10
The score of 9 is for considering the whole series as one module. AL1 was on the difficult side, if you started with a L1 PC, with a more balanced combat by AL3. AL2 was probably the highpoint, which I would have given a 10, except Swordflight 2 is my favourite module ever.
This is truly one of the great series, only slightly flawed and a tad too linear to be a 10.
How are you supposed to defeat that Magical Golem? Even with a +5 longsword, nothing. Suck its energy somehow...?
I found it a bit disapointing, especialy when compared to CToT
Guys i stuck! Can't get in to Hillsfar. The guards won't give me a chance to persuade them, there are no dialogues options (just shouting out at my dwarf), what should i do??
Edit: I figured out somehow that the race might be a problem so i used dm_setrace human before speaking with guards and it worked, i had proper conversation options, after getting behind gate i turned back to normal. Companions just vanished, oh well XD Quite a buggy bug this mod.
I played a half-Orc and had no problem.... did you use the scroll which was given to you that transforms you to human ??
Another great module ! Congrats to the makers !
Hello!
Could someone share a link for 1.08 version of this module?
Thanx in advance.
Does this module assume that the PC is the same as in Crimson Tides of Tethyr, or are there merely story allusions?
Played this one through many years ago and enjoyed it thoroughly. I actually started this series again because a module I am currently in the midst of building is set in Tethyr and I wanted to explore what Alazander had done with it.
I do enjoy modules set in the realms with familiar characters as is this entire series.
This particular module is a better than the first but not quite as good as the second installment. It is a enjoyable module that leaves you hoping for more of the story at the end.
I played this one through with NWNEE and did not find any game breaking bugs. There were occassional glitches that either solved themselves or were fixed by a quick save and reload.
I would give this particular module a 9 and then the entire series a 9. I thought I read in one of the Beamdog forums that Alazander was considering an overhaul for NWNEE and finishing the story, apparently there was to be a fourth installment?? Either way loved this module and loved the series!
Thanks for all the hard work Alazander you put into these modules!

A bit confused as to why there are major issues that are not fixed in these chapters, after all these years? A work around that forces the player to use DM commands to position the announcer...? I also got stuck just looking at the stands in the arena and that is where I will leave off. In the second chapter the game just crashed with the decision to leave the City. Very frustrating and not sure I like this happening repeatedly. I appreciate all the hard work that put these free modules online for us to download, just seems some get too carried away with cut scenes and haks that cause all sorts of trouble as far as playability. So 8/10 for the series and the stories, would have been higher if things worked better.
For those interested, Tyrants of the Moonsea is now available on the steam store, as a full release from Ossian Studios, for the NWN:EE (Not promoting, just letting you guys know, because I didn't. I saw it on the steam page news today while randomly browsing)
It does cost money ofc but I guess it's finished/probably bug-free(?)
My vote is for the EE version of the module. It would have been almost perfect if it weren't for all that tedious backtracking. Oh, and the "big" plot twist was just so predictable! Aside from that, a very good module with a long and compelling story, many places to visit and a huge number of quests.
Sorcerer/Wizard with Necromancy focus will have an easy time here. Enemies (except undead and dragons) seems to be very susceptible to death magic, thus he can finger of death anyone :P
Playing EE as well.
Ended up at lvl 24, mostly solo. It was hell of a game, IMO the best module ever, on pair with Swordflight 2 and definitely best written module thanks to mr. Scull.
I had a problem that is fixed now. Terrific job!
Defeated the Minotaur with Elf, and a cut scene begins with Malthir leaving the stands, then... nothing.
Update: I fixed it by entering debug mode prior to the fight and typing in dm_jumptopoint 25 34, then hitting enter before Maalthir begins to move. You port right into his face and dialogue ensues.
What an epic questline my friend thank you.
I have a gamebreaking bug in the Arena of Hillsfar.
Once deafeted the Magic Golem, a cutscene starts and the announcer leave the place but nothing more happens.
I tried to use a solution found online, before killing the golem i send the command : dm_runscript cac_tm_announce3 - enter - dm_runscript cac_tm_announce2.
This makes me skip the cutscene, but then the golem is still alive and the next encounter VS the minotaur doesn't start and I find myself again stuck in a cutscene.
Any solution? Is it possible to console kill the minotaur so then i can skip the cutscene but still have it dead?
Help!
As far as I know, this module was never completed.
You can get the completed version as a Premium Module purchase from Beamdog.
FP!
