What's the update?
Have you installed the 1.69 critical rebuild and the latest CEP1?
Had the same thing happen but the second time just walked away for a while, and after I came back the game had finished loading and let me choose a Premade character and I was off and running! I timed it another time and it was about 2.5 minutes!
This is a great and very large module. The Haks alone are a very large install! Spoliers ahed:
1. To start, a Level 1 PC cannot stand against the 8 or so tough skeletons that you are hit with immediately! I cheated myself just to be able to hang on until I got the chest open. Even then it was tough going!
2. Level up was fast due to all the fairly tough baddies that would swarm in constantly. Just had to move aorund a bit and they would appear! Nice to get up a bit and get some feats and skills.
3. The sword that I then got from the Militia Captain's tent was a great weapon, but after I died and reloaded a game a fair ways in, the Firestrike additional damage went away, making this a fairly mundane weapon for the bulk of the game! Very nice equipment in the tent to help the PC along though.
4. After I cleaned out the cave as requested, the Captain did not acknowledge the feat. Depressing! Cave was easy compared to the contstantly respawning baddies all around the camp!
5. Various items to loot cause the game to crash, also some merchants. Save often!
6. No real journal or map pins to use, makes this a bit hard to figure out. Especially later when you are asked to find the king, with no guidance!
7. Only real henchman is ridiculously overpowered, but does not converse, and there is no way to equip the super duper scythe that you are given for him by his dad. He also does not follow the PC, either in Guard or Follow mode, so I had to lead swarms of baddies to him to get him to even move. When I tried to rest, to help him replenish his spells, the game crashed!
8. Marissa the Shadow Witch is impervious to all harm, even with very strong weapons and Base Attack at 78! Never lost a hitpoint from me or Attmos. I had to just leave the area and she didn't follow thankfully!
9. When you finally get to Omnia City there is a really neat Blacksmith gith by the gate called Dragon's Hoard or something similar. Okay equipment, but you can place items on the anvil and pay to have them upgraded! This worked well for some weapons, but when I tried both of the shields I had collected, they disappeared after I had paid to have the altered! I had to do a reload and not mess with them!
10. The final baddie(?), the Toothcollector, is so tough that you cannot even get near him before he hits you with a death ray that wipes you out immediately! I quit at that point, but may go back and see if I can cheat myself to victory, once again! There is a sword that I finally got that was good enough for my character, but now cannot use it, not being able to hit the guy! And I do not think that it delivers all the On Hit effects that it says in the item description. A bit more damage than the Captain"s sword, but not much.
All in all a fun module, most things work. You just have to be careful and save often, as I said before. Have fun!
Spoilers:
Tried this again and the loss of the super powers of the Captain's Sword is a real bummer, when you have to Reload! There are few if any weapons that really let you fight off the mobs of respawned monsters successfully. I got my main quest this time from the Dragon and had to kill him, not good, but am now stuck in the crazy Jubilex City and castle. In the castle there are situations where the guards and Mayor are fighting some poor chick without being able to hurt her, but still keeping me from being able to talk with him. Also, the main good guy attacked me, even though I do not have a Faction bug, and I was forced to kill him. And his special Mace disappeared when I tried to pick it up! This happened a few times during the game, not so cool.
Another good guy who I did not run into but whose room I tried to loot, was Darion. His desk was trapped and I could not deactivate this, but could also not bash the desk or access it. I bet there is something pretty cool inside, but no go. So I am now stuck with no way forward through the Wizard's Woods, as the guy I killed was supposed to give me the key! Not sure what can be done now except for a total restart, which I do not want to do. so I did deduct a star for these frustrating situations. I guess th author is not monitoring the site because these things could be dealt with, I am sure.
Tried this yet again with a different PC that I already had, but named her Angelheart! Had Hammer of the Gods and Fire Strike Oh Hit with a greataxe +10, but that went away when imported into the game! This is not a stripper mod so you can keep your gear, which was useful as I had other weapons and gear that helped me survive. I played all the way thru the Town of Jubilex, this time being able to talk to the Mayor in the castle after killing the leader Nazir, who was indeed turned to evil. I then left the City after trying to help with the invasion and somehow got a faction shift, without realizing it. I noticed a lot of this happening in various areas but mostly this town! I fled the City and was able to get through the Woods and meet up with Ozo and get his staff, but I am now considered evil so really cannot continue in any good conscience. I ended up having to kill townspeople that attacked me and I just bailed.
I hate when this happens and you really have no inkling as to why! And there should be a way to counteract this with a DebugMode Console command or something, right? Very frustrating to have played this twice through to a fairly far point and having to quit once again. Somebody needs to change some things here! One thing I did discover is that if you do not mind Respawing instead of Reload, as I usually do, the Sword of the Captain retains its Flame Strike attribute, which is really worthwhile in handling the respawning mobs of fairly high level monsters. Just an FYI.
Sorry for the multiple posts about this module but I felt that it was important to get the word out. Maybe not...!
