Description | |
A PnP conversion of my fave mods. Your mission is fairly straight forward - to destroy the troublesome Giants and find out who is behind the evil pact that unites the various Giant races. An all out assault on the Hill Giant Steading is just the begining - where else might it lead? I know these mods have been done on the vault before but I wanted to create them in my own way and with HCR rules. Hirelings are available for those short on numbers. The full series consists of 7 modules. |

Without a DM, this falls completely flat.
For those playing without a DM, I strongly recommend not playing this module.
While it's fun to play with the hardcore rules, the sheer size of areas in this module turns what could be a fun romp through a classic adventure into pure tedium - if my tabletop DM forced me to roll every singular dice roll imaginable, I'd spend all day rolling dice instead of doing what's fun - playing. In two hours of play, my husband and I had only just reached The Steading. Two hours for the action to actually get started is a bit much, even for someone who enjoys tabletop roleplaying more than hack and slash. Combined with areas that are way too big, and sparsely populated, fog planes are cut a bit too close, making finding your way in those enormous areas even worse - and just to add insult to injury, you actually have to pin the map yourself, without really knowing where those potential transitions actually lead - needless to say, you'll be doing horrendous amounts of backtracking. The initial questgiver comes across as a bit of a grump at best, your journal entries are surprisingly uninformative, and instructions given are maddeningly vague, given the vast size of the areas.
I've actually played this adventure as a tabletop game, and this module was pure disappointment, made worse by spelling errors that, on their own, would be something I'd overlook, but with the lack of polish in this module, it's hard to overlook.
Really, honestly, I was hoping for better. I loved this adventure as a tabletop game, and I'm just so crushingly disappointed at how poorly this was implemented by this builder in NWN.
What the heck is DM?
DM = Dungeon Master. It's the person who essentially runs the game if you're playing d&d in any form as a pnp (pen and paper game.) I have not played this module so cannot comment on it directly.
Checked the toolset and decided to start with D1/D2.
Udasu's version is much more nicer than this.
Have you played any other parts of this campaign?
My advice is to skip to D1 or even further, I think the quality improves much with each module in the series.
Love old school conversions. Will give it a try.
why do you keep going to all these mods, and rate them a 10 when you havent even played them ?
Trev's (Migrate Wizard's real name) conversion of the original PnP Q1: Lolth Queen of the DemonWeb Pits AD&D module, which if you play through all the Giants & related modules is where you ultimately land (plus Trev created his own follow-up to Q1: Q2 Lolth's Revenge) is the finest conversion of a pen-and-paper module to NeverWinter Nights EVER! The incredible detail he included, even adding the Dwarven world under attack by Lolth's minions, reduced to a single fortress of Dwarves and their alliess surrounded by enemies whom you can assist, or not depending on your alignment (which in the original module is just short paragraph, an idea for the DM with what I thught was a silly suggestion to have the players decide the outcome of the battle via a game of chess minus many key pieces on their side to represent the underdog aspect, but Trev fleshed it out nicely by making this alternate world a locale players can travel to & actually take part in the battle - the fact that MW took the time to add this speaks volumes re: his enthusiasm & capabilities) and Lolth's Spider-Ship and the two-pyramid temple and SO much more, all very well-done and clearly representing a vast amout of work and talent. Point being, some may not care for this G1 conversion, but trust me, Trev was just getting started and especially if you are a fan of the original epic (SPOILER!) giants/kua-toa/drow/Lolth saga, you will deeply appreciate how well Trev converted these many inter-connected classic AD&D PnP modules into NWN. Migrate Wizaard is one of the great ones, really, and like I said, his Q1 module conversion is fantastic. Am getting ready to take on Q2 Lolth's Revenge which looks like a true masterpiece. Thank you, Trev aka a lil' app named Migrate Wizard.
The module author is Trev.
Migrate Wizard is a bot that moved the module here from the old Vault (with considerable help from community volunteers).
Thnks for the enlightning info. Now the name makes sense. Thank you then, Trev. Will correct prior entry.
