Description | |
Several months have passed since you defeated Mephistopheles. You enjoyed some renown as the hero of Waterdeep, but, despite the epic nature of your deeds, you faded from the public eye rapidly. However, this period of relative peace in your life would not last long. A messenger delivered a letter to you one afternoon, a letter that requested your immediate assistance. The message's writer was a man named Vinscott - a duke in the aristocracy of Vagabond Island. In his letter, Duke Vinscott explained that he had discovered a plot that could provoke a disastrous civil war which would drag the entirety of Toril into chaos and destruction. The Duke wanted to prevent any of these events from coming to pass and, having heard of your exceptional skill, asked you to travel to Marble City, the political capitol of the island, and meet with him. After carefully considering the request, you hired a sailor to take you to Vagabond Island... |

According to the read me, this module requires CEP but it does not state the version that is needed.
This one has been on my list to play for a long time. It is a post HotU Module and so I was waiting until I eventually ran through HotU again.
The number of good high level modules is so small I decided to forgo HotU and play it with another. The module has been around awhile and had a 9.43 with 75 votes on the old vault. For what its worth, the events in HotU only are mentioned a couple of times and really only to point to your status as a "hero" and to launch you into the story, they have no bearing on the story.
The level recommendation is 25-27, I played it through with a 23rd level dwarven F8/C15 with 1.69 and the "Complete CEP 1.X" package installed. I did not find any bugs.
Reading through the old vault comments one of the common themes is "it took a while to get warmed up to this module" and I would agree. It does start a bit slow. Once you get into the meat of the plot the module is actually quite well done.
The puzzles and traps are nicely done and incorporated into the story well. Though this is where the module gets a slight knock as I did have to go to the walkthrough at least 3 times to advance the story. At least one of the puzzles I would have never solved without the walkthrough, and frankly I am not sure how anyone could. This is a common refrain in the old vault comments.
The battles are tough and appropriate for the level.
The author put a ton of hard work into this one and it shows. While the tilesets and placeables are indicative of a 2005 module, the work put into the story arc and the planning of this intricate tale is appreciated. Thanks BigBordan for your hard work.
I enjoyed this module, it was a fun couple of nights once the module gets going.
Very nice mod. A stealthy character can avoid most fights, only that damn dragon gave my lvl 22 rogue some headache...
Btw: it runs well with the latest 1.x version of cep.
A lot of work and imagination went into this module. That being said, I do not like to constantly have to follow directions in a Walkthrough in order to move ahead even one small step. I am quitting while in the mirror rooms. Too much messing around. I have to admit to a good ol Hack n Slash as my preferred type of mod.
