This is a stand-alone tileset for use as a red sandstone canyon setting within a desert. Based on the Granite Lands 2 tileset, this set follows the same basic layout, including up to +4 raise/lower functionality, as well as both shallow and deep water. Single elevation change is of 3 m height, and uses a rounded sand dune, while all other height changes produce the red sandstone cliff appearance.
There are three versions of this tileset so far. The first version is the prototype, which has all the original bugs, such as incomplete shadows.
The second version is the LITE version. This version has 3 variations of each tile if only two terrains are mixed. It has 1 variation otherwise. This helps reduce the hak file sizes. The total tile count before any groups or features is 600.
Known Issues:
The third version is almost more of an expansion to the LITE version, but I'll just call it STANDARD. It has 6 variation of each base tile, 2 variations of 3-terrain mixers, and 1 variation of any other tile. The total tile count before groups and features is 960.
Known Issues:
This version is a prototype. It has known pathing issues in the SET file as well as known depth issues in deep water around cliff edges. Feel free to explore the set and start building. SET entries for this set may change if updated which may cause trouble for builders. The original SET file contains 1200 tiles.
Known Issues:
As always, feel free to modify models and textures. I've purposely made these tiles very simple so that they can be retextured quickly.
The GMAX builder script for this tileset is now available.
Within a single zipped file you will find two MS files. Extract both of these to your gmax/scripts folder or wherever 3DSMax keeps the similar folder. You will also find the GMAX file which I don't believe will run in 3dsMax, but could probably be converted somehow. You can extract the GMAX file to the gmax/scenes folder.
After opening the GMAX file in nwmax/gmax, you will see the scene listed in the trd_builder image on this page. The parts within that scene are labeled on that image based on what they are for.
Notes:
This is W O N D E R F U L !! Thanks to keep NWN alive!! :)
I like the look and feel of this set. Looking forward to trying it out.
EDIT: After looking this set over, I can't wait for the finished product. I see where this will be used in our mod. Thanks. This gets a 10 from me.
these are luscious !
great work, md !
looking fwd to the finished product. :)
If there is any issue with the builder script, such as missing functions, please contact me on Discord @ merricksdad#5577
Amazing as usual!
The screenshots look nice indeed. But the tileset seems not to work on 1.69 (lots of textures missing at last). Do I miss, where this is pointed out? The download-size could be dramatically decrease by using 7z or something similar.
Unfortunately, I see no point making stuff for 1.69 anymore. Almost everything these new sets can do is because of EE. The textures are missing to you because they call EE material files rather than 1.69 textures. The download size is also because there's over 1000 tiles with medium polycount meshes, and they're not yet compiled. I don't expect this set will ever be released for use with 1.69.
Well, to make nothing for 1.69 anymore is your decission. All I ask for is to point it clearly out. A short line "This is EE only" won't hurt.
As for the download-size: The two haks and the demo together will be a slim package of just 60 meg. with 7z, which is just a quarter of the current size.
This is easily my favourite of your tiles so far, merricksdad. Your work's just a straight up essential for the modern NWN server.
You nailed the feeling of the desert in these, we'll be making use of them for sure. Thanks so much!
This set is fantastic!
thanks for it
Cheers!
This is lovely!!
How come when I try to open this, the whole area is plain white?
Be sure to use also the textures hak
Besides the walkmesh issues and the shock when you only see a couple of tile options in the palette, the tileset is superb. Thanks!
