This is a rural winter tileset based on my Mountains and More tileset. It has most of the terrains, but none of the buildings. I will add different buildings to it later, like longhouses for example.
I called this tileset "Early Winter" because as you can see the lakes and rivers aren't frozen yet and many trees haven't completely lost their leaves yet.
Latest update: January 2020, fixed a typo in the edge.2da that caused a missing edge tile
There are two 2020 versions; one has compiled models, the other uncompiled ones. If you don't need the models to be uncompiled, remove the uncompiled hak (mountainsnow.hak) and rename the compiled hak (mountainsnow3.hak) to mountainsnow.hak. The compiled models load faster, but can't be used for adding normal maps etc.

I love this just like I love all the work you do Zwerkules. Thanks for sharing this with the community.
This looks nice, like it might have a bit of a "Christmas" feel with water still running under a snow-covered bridge. Can't wait to try it.
Great, that you make this addition to your other sets! Fitting! Very much looking forward to it!
Thanks. This is sooo much better then NWN default!
Yes! Finally a good winter tileset!
Downloading right now!
Great job!
I've smushed around a bit and taken a few screenshots of the result.
Areabuilding with this is ridiculously satisfying. I love it. Excuse me, I need to go try to build a mountain-goblin-cave-hive exterior.
Looks really good, Zwerkules. Thanks for sharing!
Longhouses, yes thank you, please!
Just at this precise, exact moment, I have absolutely NO need whatsoever for a lumpy, wintery Tileset with bits on... damn; have to go and think of a need for one...
Yay, Zwerkules does it again! Let's rap!
Yo, yo Zwerky twerky, on the floor movin' like a turkey!
Gobble, gobble, gobble, gobble-yo, Zwerkules buildin' like there is no tomorrow!
How many stars do you give this gent?
TEN, TEN, it's all you give!
I'm not going to let the elevator break us down!
Oh no! Let's GO!
Let's go Zwerky.
10's all around!
Snowflakes falling.
All to the ground!
FP!
As assumed, this is a beautiful addition!
I do have a suggestion of a maybe "improvement": The edges, where snow and stone hills meet is a bit harsh. An examplke for this is the last screenshot of TheBarbarian (https://neverwintervault.org/screenshots/zwerkules-early-winter-tileset-...), where it says "A female dwarf" (which is in deed an awesome name for a toon :D ). It works well for the original set, where the grass color and the rock color blend and the edge is also covered a bit by rendered grass.
So adding a bottom mesh to the rocks, which is partly snow covered, will make this edge more smooth looking. I'm totally aware, that this is a pain of a job and there are tons of rock tiles in there, but maybe you find a time, when you're totally bored and don't know anything else to do... ;)
Just a suggestion. And please keep up creating your beautiful stuff!
wonderful !
This is beautiful, I'm going to update my old mods with this in appropriate places :)
Look forward to seeing some houses in there too, and I really like the little fort. One small issue is some of the cave 'doors' cause the toolset to crash for some reason, so I've been putting in area transitions instead of using the door objects.
Hello Savant!
Can you tell me which of the cave transitions cause a toolset crash for you? I'll fix that asap.
Sent you a DM but not sure it went through, so I'll just cover it here. It seems like all of the cave doors cause an access violation when I put in area transition target info, with only a couple of them not crashing the toolset (two of the raised caves under the feature>mountain category). I'm wondering if this is a windows 10 compatibility issue? Am I the only one experiencing this?
edit: Also noticed a couple of blank ridge tiles, nothing major though :)
edit 2: All of the above was my fault, as I found a .2da file that was clashing with this tileset. Problem fixed!
I was redownloading this after a reformat and found, to my dismay, that this page was lacking in rodent votes. While I cannot rap my apology, I can offer cheese. Sweet, golden, star-shaped cheese. Also, maybe even more mods will update to incorporate this and others, so all of NWN will be by Zwerkules !
ahem
Thanks to all who suggested this snow tileset for me. I do have one issue with this. Why wasn't the hak named "Early Winter"? Otherwise, this is absolutely a Winter Wonderland !!!
There is a missing ridge and its called trs01_a82_07 - I've uploaded this to my Kissmet Vault page.

Outstanding piece
Should the new version be backwards compatible with modules utilising the older? :) I assume yes.
Yes
I may have found a bug with the Mage Tower terrain feature using the Compiled version. See below:
Thinking it might be me, I removed the hak and tried it with the October 2017 Version and the mage tower rendered perfectly. I removed that hak and then added the compiled version again, started with a new area and got the same result, just the blank space in the mountains.
If you look a little further down, you will see a tile there. The tile isn't missing, it got replaced by a wrong one. I uploaded a fixed version now.
If another Mod requires the Early Winter hak, do I use the compiled or uncompiled version?
Many thanks for any help and your continued support and work.
Use the compiled one if you don't have any haks that add normal and specular maps to the tiles.
Many thanks for responding.
How do I know whether a Mod I am playing, that uses your haks, has specular maps?
So far nobody has used Dafena's fancy maps in a module, so it's pretty save to assume you can use the compiled version. Even if someone uses the fancy maps, you won't get any bigger problems with the compiled version than the fancy maps not showing.
Many thanks for all your hard work and responsiveness - very much appreciated.
Zwerkules, this is magnificent! I had a couple of ideas for a winter/icy themed module and this is perfect. Often with haks, it's hard to get a right feel for things, with constant tinkering just to get the mood right. This tileset of yours however, is so well done that just about any combo of terrain features elicits the right mood for adventure, combat and exploration.
Still, I hate to be "that guy" but, would you consider implementing houses into this as you did with your Mountains and More set? Maybe with a coastal feel to them (I'm thinking Ten Towns/Spine of the World here).... I know, I know. It's possible to create a different area with Bioware's Rural Winter set, but that tileset pales in comparison to what you've achieved here.
Regardless of my request, this is a very well done tileset. Thank you!
Hi Zwerkules, thanks for this.
Can you tell which rows in the doortypes.2da belong to this tileset? So we can merge this file with our own.
OK, I guess they are from 960 to 968, because your 2da has a lot of other doors I don't have in mine (I only use latest Project Q).
Yes, 960 to 968 is right. I follow naming conventions, so the doors are easy to find. If they are for a tileset trs01 (Early Winter), the door names start with TRS01, for Medieval City (tcm01) they start with TCM01, TRM01 for Medieval Rural and so on.
I have NWN1 and the expansions but I've never played it as it came with the CE Edition of NWN2 when it was released way back.
Seeing all these amazing creations and visuals from other people makes me think I really should install it just to appreciate their work. Who knows, maybe it'll help me improve my own.
This looks great, even just from the screenshots!

So which one to play Aielund? Compiled or uncompiled?
It doesn't matter. The only difference is loading time, compiled models load faster.
A clear 12 out of 10 ... But I cant use it. Too bad. I need some additional features, can they be ordered? :-)
Depends on the features ;-)
Oh, it's not much :-)
I need a massive wizards-tower (the size 2x2 as the bio-cloak tower - it has 5 indoor levels + basement), just standing on the snowy ground (maybe there is a placeable for this somewhere)
A palisade with a gate and tile where the palisade is broken, so that a dexterous PC can climb over it.
Some barbarian dwellings would be nice, including a longhouse.
An open air monument as the tomb of a famous leader (by now i'm using the "good" temple of the bio tileset for this)
Actually the "Barbaric North Tileset (Beta 1.1)" comes nearest to my needs. It has very nice buildings and the palisade is exactly what's I'm looking for, but this *@!?#$%-thing has not a single "normal" cave/mine entrance and no ramps to lifted terrain - so it's no go.
Nothing else. :-)
A simpily stunning tileset addition! The only reason I gave it 9 stars is the lack of any of the "simple habitation" or "ruins" features or groups. I'm wondering, is there any chance that this is still in the works? We use this tileset already for our PW, but right now it is limited to unihabited regions, and we would like to expand how we use this.
Thank you for your continued contributions to the community.
