'Tis only a little thing but here in the UK clowns are usually found in Circuses and Carnivals are street parades. What people in the US call a carnival (at least from what I have seen at the movies and on TV) would most often be called a Fair (i.e. with rides and sideshows) in the UK.

Except in our UK village, where it's called a carnival (in July) but that's just us...
Where I used to live it would be called a gala (just to be even more awkward it was pronounced gay-la).
