According to the 3E PHB monsters have the same weapon enhancement as their damage reduction (eg. a Red Dragon with reduction of 20/+3 should have a weapon enhancement of +3). In NWN monster damage can be reduced even with the lowest level of damage reductions (eg. damage of a Red Dragon attacks is reduced by Ghostly Visage 5/+1). Monster weapons don't have enhancement properties and the engine doesn't 'enhance' the 'monster damage'. This can cause serious balance problems as: - enemy monsters do far less damage if the PC has normal reduction (with Stoneskin or those uber powerful/cheese Greater belts it is not an issue) - high level summons (without 'real' weapons) and shapechanges (Shapechange spell or Elemntal change) are almost useless. This quick fix targets it from another directions. It is simply assumed that harder hitting monsters have better enhancements. The enhancement levels are set so, that in most cases it really matches the reduction. Currenlty only generic damaging items (eg. Slam2d8) are enhanced, as for lower damage special attack (poison, level drain), the important is the speciality not the damage. The following scheme used in the 'enhancements': 2d6 = +1 2d8 = +2 2d10 = +3 Standard monster weapons which were enhanced: Bite: 2d6, 2d8, 4d4, 2d10, 2d12, 4d6 Claw: 2d6, 2d8, 3d6, 3d8 Gore: 2d6 Skin/Hide: Elder/Giant/Huge Fire Elemental Slam (misplaced item) Slam: 2d6, Warrior/Greater Mummy Slam, 2d8, 2d10, 3d8 |
