Original NWN for Download!

Back in 1991 on what would later become AOL, Neverwinter Nights made its debut as an online game that became extremely popular and was live until 1997.

According to Wikipedia, at its height, NWN on AOL had 115,000 players and typically hosted 2,000 adventurers during prime evening hours. Also of interest, Neverwinter Nights was honored (along with EverQuest and World of Warcraft) at the 59th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards in 2008 for advancing the art form of MMORPG games.

We definitely owe a debt to the success of that game for eventually getting the development of our beloved NWN, which launched in 2002.

I recently came across a downloadable version of the game and thought I'd share it here as a nod to its storied history and importance.

I still enjoy the very pen-and-paper feel of these types of games - its very similar to other older D&D type games. The turn-based combat allows for strategic use of spells and combat that few modern games recreate.

It's downloadable or you can play it in your browser (though can't save games).

Check it out and relive a bit of NWN history!
