OK, what's the trick/cheat?

So....I originally bought NWN 2 from Best Buy many years ago...PC couldn't run it.  forgot about it, when I got a new PC year later...Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, saw NWN2 complete on GOG, got it.  Got to the end, 3 Shadow Reaver fight....and thus the subject line of the post.  I've looked at the stategy suggestions (only use Ammon for Naming, Only Zhaere, use both....only have created char go talk everyone else stay back and cover...etc, etc). None work.  a Shadow Reaver always teleports/walks through people to get to whoever is Naming, always disrupts their concentration.  Every. Single. Time.  It is simply *NOT* possible to get the True Name Scroll read for even one Shadow Reaver.   So what's the secret/cheat/trick/hack?  I have literally tried it thirty eight times (yes, I kept count).  So don't tell me "have everyone protect Ammon while he reads"...that has not worked, twelve times.

buff. That's one of the tuffer fights - easily the most tactically challenging.

i don't do anything special to protect the Reciter. Just let him/her stand back from the top of the stairs, and keep the reavers occupied by keeping other party-members closer to them (i guess that's protecting the Reciter ..).

iirc, companions keep getting blown back and knocked down ... send in another one!

Pause & Puppet (no ai), ya'll need full tactical control

As I said above....doesn't work.  Maybe I suck at the game, but trying to protect the Reciter (s) in every way recommended has not worked 38 times, and THAT many times following guides faililng is beyond a lack of skill on my part.  It's an issue with the game.  I was referring to literal teleport...the Reaver is standing in one place....then there's a reaver next to the reciter, about 1/3 of the screen away, because I *AM* putting other party members out to engage and hold back the Reavers.  Does not work.  Up until this, I really liked the game.

Maybe temporarily reduce the game difficulty level, then put it back where you want it after the encounter. Or just cheat code kill the reavers?

Iirc I followed a guide to do that battle, because I am not a good player.

As I said, followed guides.  38 fails...and I've added four more, applying kevL's advice above.

I know it's frustrating, last time I had both reciting and tried some invisibility spells on them, somehow i got through.

Well tens of thousands of players have gotten past this fight so, not impossible. Let's collect some info first.

  • What difficulty level are you using?
  • Who do you have in the party?
  • What build did you use for Khelgar?
  • What build did you use for your PC?

Let's see what you have to work with, then we can get into tactics.

Note, I got hung up here a couple years ago until someone reminded me you can only have one recitation in progress at a time.

The shadow reavers have ability to knock down everyone in their surroundings, just like the Air Elemental's Pulse in NWN 1, only they can use it unlimited times. Once they succeed in knocking down, they proceed to target others. One tactics is to avoid being knocked down by the reavers, so they'll spend their turn to keep trying.

IIRC there are boots or something that give you immunity to knock down. Give these to Khelgar and let him tank the reavers.

Another way is have Elanee take Scribe Scroll feat, and have her scribe as many Foundation of Stone as possible. Prior to the battle, have Ammon Jerro use UMD to buff your characters with those scrolls.
