Scaling Items In Toolset

Hi All,

I have recently been having problems scaling placeables in the toolset, simply after placing them and trying to adjust their x,y,z setting.

Sometimes it works, more often though it does not.

It is making things very difficult.

Anybody else experiencing this - any known solutions?

Cheers, Lance.

Is the size just not updating, Lance?

When that's happened to me (usually with trees refusing to embrace a new size / seed), I just hit Ctrl + C / Ctrl + V, and the duplicate version should have the right dimensions.

Hi Grog,

No, it seems to be a random problem, and I am going to try reinstalling the toolset, as it is getting worse. (Also, I tested in a second toolset on another computer and that is fine.)

Yes, this did work after I understood your meaning. :) (See later post.)

Thanks for feedback though. :)

Lance.

hey Lance,
some peeps have been mentioning that Win10 may fail to update changed appearances in the toolset ...

I'm on Win7 so can't confirm or deny... but iirc try saving changes + restarting the toolset, switching windows etc. Even *cough* rebooting,

ps. update yer video drivers...... (or roll them back *cough)

Hi KevL,

Yes, I have a nasty feeling that it will be due to video drivers in Windows 10 by the looks of it, as reinstalling has not helped.

For some reason, the scaling of objects seems to play up on some areas that may already have a number in them. (I.e. It looks as though scaling works on area with fewer ojects already there.)  Scratch that - They still fail to scale at times. :(

This has not been a problem before ... and even my other install (still Windows 10 and same video drivers) works fine. Unless there is a problem on the area itself (on this PC) perhaps?

It may even be a specific video "card" issue rather than drivers?

I will keep testing.

Cheers, Lance.

Hi KevL,

Well, "unfortunately", all my computers are up to date with all Windows and drivers. Therefore, the problem appears (after a quick test only) to be related to the latest video card I have installed in my main computer. i.e. This later NVideo (1070) graphics card appears to be the "problem", as I would hazard a guess that the issue started after I installed that a few weeks ago. True, I did also move to the latest Windows 10 revision as well, but then the other computer is that version too. ALTHOUGH .. SEE SEE MY WORKAROUND BELOW ...

I do not like the idea of reverting to my older VGA card, and so it looks as though I may be limited in my options. In another quick test, I did find that I could create a new area from scratch and it appeared that placeables would scale in that OK. Therefore, if I have the scaling issue again, I may be able to work around the issue by scaling in a temp area and copy and pasting the object (as mentioned above).

I would be interested to hear if other people encounter this.

Cheers, Lance.

EDIT: For the record, I also exported and imported the area into a new module and objects would still not scale in the area. (I may try importing the area from the other computer in case the problem is area specific.)

I am experiencing it since I run under W10 and modern NVidia drivers. When the placeable is not rescaled, I just Ctrl-X / Ctrl-V it. You may also save/close the area then reopen it. Converting from placeable to environment rescales it too.

Same thing if you change armor colors or head type or hair color of a creature. Sometimes the change is not reflected. Ctrl-X/Ctrl-V does the trick too.

Hi Claudius33,

I willl try that copy/paste trick then .... I did not grasp the reasoning at first, but it sounds like the scaling is "done", but simply not updated on the version being viewed, and so the copied scaled version (being fresh from a paste) does show the differences.

Sounds like you have the same issue then.

EDIT: Copy/Paste confirmed worked.

Thanks, Lance.

I think it's some type of caching issue as of Windows 8 forward. Flipping a placeable to environmental and back usually works for me. I often avoid the problem entirely by working with blueprint copies before putting the placeable in the scene.
