***IMPOSSIBLE*** Shop Items (RESOLVED!)

EDIT: OK, I finally tracked this down .. and its quite hard to understand why this is happening, but ....

If I had set a recipe book to an "infinite" availability within the store, it would fail to use the correct XML setting for the "container type" associated with the blueprint recipe book. i.e. It used SCREEN_CONTAINER_DEFAULT, which caused my recipes within it to become unuseable! (A dreadful bug that I was totally unaware of and probably caused frustration for players as well as myself.)

However, I have now placed a check in the code to ensure that, even if I have the "breaking" infinite setting on a recipe book in the store in the toolset, then the code ensures it becomes a one-off item, thereby ensuring the correct version of the book with the correct XML container type: SCREEN_CONTAINER_RECIPE will be acquired upon purchase. You can tell the difference because of the container backdrop image used with the RECIPE version (a texture image), and it is seethrough (like a normal container) in the incorrect version.

Why the store "infinite" setting should have affected this item, I am not 100% sure. However, these books (after being bought) do handle a lot of variables, and so maybe that has something to do with it.

This is worth noting for builders anyway ... :)

Hi All,

OK, this one has me stumped.

I had some items in a shop that had the wrong blueprints to the ones I need to use (fixes broken recipe books).

So, I removed the old blueprints and added the new, and the old ones remained when tested. I also did the following:-

1) Deleted the shop and remade it.

2) Removed the books, tested (gone), added new ones, went back (wrong blueprints again).

3) Rebooted my computer and restarted toolset/game. Checked for duplicated stores. Bad books still there!

4) Dropped copies of the new blueprints into game and tested that they had changed. This confirmed the new blueprints should have been fine.

So, can anybody explain how to get around items that refuse to update in stores, even when the module/campaign items no longer exist in the format they were changed from?

Cheers, Lance.

thx, Lance

that's exactly the kind of bug I'd go *bang bang bang* at if(when) we have opensource.

what didja think i was gonna say ;)

Every couple years I get fed up with stock Nwn2 bugs and compile Xoreos. At present, i think, it still needs someone who knows or wants to know OpenGL, 3d-lighting, implementing texture-maps, that kinda stuff. I'm too old ....

But i do have experience working on (my version of) OpenXcom. That's a/the popular remake of the classic 1994 XCOM game. The original suffered its share of bugs, comparable to Nwn2. Programs had to run in ~640k RAM, which led to ... several interesting glitches. Like running BaseDefense missions with 50 unloaded pistols. And player-units that were unconscious would suddenly disappear from the battlefield.

And, well, anyone can look them up on Ufopaedia.org

point: I know what it means to have opensource code. here's what it looked like a year ago

west harbor

but you know what, as i flew around West Harbor I nearly fell out of my seat.

Hi KevL,

Perhaps I am even too old for that (when it arrives) then. ;) I find it difficult enough just trying to get my head around NWN2 as it currently stands.

I mean ... what are you actually saying here ... in the above "West Harbour" scene ... that it's being viewed outside of NWN2 in a different system?

You may be talking at a level I still need to grasp. :)

Cheers, Lance.

The West Harbor scene is being viewed in the open source Xoreos engine, which aims to implement the Aurora engine and it's derivatives. DrMcCoy is a member here and in the Vault irc channel, and can always use new contributors.
