What Programs Do You Use?

I'm having problems with 3d modelling. Mostly it's problems with the numerous 3D programs out there, their different interfaces, and the plethora of import/export plugins of which many just do not work. I'd like to know what programs the users of this site/forum are using or what is at the moment successful for actually creating and exporting the product to nwn2. Seriously, I need someone to throw me a bone.... Please list if you can, the program, plugins and platform you use.

       Thanks, Anyone

I use Blender, mainly because it is free. But that mostly limits me to building placeables and tilesets, as it can't import/export the files used for NWN2 animation. For that I believe you need to use 3DS Max 6, 7, or 8. However, supposedly you can use Blender for building helms, shields, armor, and such; I haven't tried that though.

Blender works for me on Windows because I hand massaged the Python-based import/export scripts until they run smoothly with the latest release. It's now set up the way I want, so I have a fairly efficient pipeline going.

Apparently the import/export scripts don't work on some other (non-Windows) platforms though, at least not on the Mac. Unfortunately, I don't have any means to debug those types of issues, and I'm pretty busy with building anyway. :-) Somebody with Python skills and access to the platforms will need to tackle those.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using Linux and Blender 2.74. I was unaware that Blender could not import/export the files used for NWN2 animation, so I'll stop trying and take a step back to make something else. I could not get Blender 2.69 to accept the nwn2 import/export plugins; this may be a Linux issue, not sure. Oddly, the nwn2 import/export plugins appear to work for Bender 2.74. (they actually show up in preferences.) I will test them further. There is a program,..SPE that is a Python editor,(with GUI.) Perhaps I will look into that too.</p>

You may receive more input to your modding queries on the Bioware forums under NWN2 Custom Content. Good luck.
