Toolset and Win10?

Hi all, just arrived here and already have a question.

I just bring out my old DVDs of NWN2, MotB and SoZ and wanted to play a new campaign, but noway to make it work on my Win10 PC... So I downloaded the NWN2 Complete Edition (final version) and fortunately, it works and it's a pleasure to replay the OC :)

Now i want to try to create a new module so i  looked for the Toolset, but impossible to find it! It doesn't seem to come with the Complete Edition i downloaded. Does anyone know where i can find a "Toolset.exe" and does it works with Win10?

(i am french, so i hope my english is not too bad...)

the nwn2 complete edition, as every other edition of nwn2, comes with the toolset bundled. there has to be a nwn2toolsetlauncher.exe within the installation folder.

the toolset works with win10. just be sure to install directx 9.0c. net framework 3.5 should probably help too.

i *think* win10 comes with .NET 3.5 installed but disabled. (figure out how to enable it ...)

If you installed it via steam you have to install the editor separately (via Tools)

Thanks for your answers but the problem is that i don't have the nwn2toolsetlauncher.exe file. I downloaded the GoG version of the game. Any idea?

And if I uncompress my old install DVD and copy/paste the file form it, will it work?

it's quite annoying, I bought the game 2 times and can't use the editor...

Once you get the GOG version, you can download it as many times as you need. I had to install twice to get the toolset working correctly. When you run the install, run as administrator may help.

I have the GOG version currently installed on my PC, and I open the nwn2toolsetlauncher.exe from the NWN2 Complete folder where the program was installed.  I have tried using a shortcut to the file, and it didn't work on win 10.  But the file runs properly when I open it from the folder.

I tried to re-install 2 times (admin mode) but nothing, the file is definitely missing, i don't understand. I'm about to DL a "non-official" one if i don't find a way to have it legally but that really pisses me off :-/

Did you set the toolset to run in compatibility mode for Windows XP (SP2)?

Here's the old FAQ, which got destickied.

My problem is i do not have the file.

My last chance: Is there a process to install the original game and the 2 expansions pack (DVDs version) and to make it work with Win 10?

I seem to recall the GoG version has multiple downloads. Atter loading all the appropriate downloads, I got the toolset and the expansions. Not sure why it isn't working for you.

before downloading from the internet, you could try to contact gog's support. there are some threads about a missing toolset, but it turned out that those people were looking for a missing shortcut - in the end the .exe was installed.

ps: what happens if you start the nwn2launcher.exe and click on "toolset"? does an error pop up?

pps: any chance you got a very sensible antivirus running in the background forcing the toolset.exe into quarantine? perhaps there's something similar integrated into win10 causing this issue? could you check any possible quarantine archives?

The .exe is really missing. I even used the search function on the entire computer, but nothing.

the launcher... doesn't launch on GoG version ^^. Just the splash screen and nothing else.

Right, i didn't think about that. I just have MSE and i just checked, but nothing here.

Actually, if someone know how to make the original DVD version work with Win10, i'm ok with that and exit the GoG version :)

It works! It's been quite long, but that works... I had to install the 3 DVD with the CD keys, and then download the patcher here, then the patchs here and install all. Both the game and the editor works. Thanks all :)

Glad you got it working. My next suggestion involved sacrificing a chicken.
