NWN2 Toolset Windows 10

I have the toolset set to compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 (tried SP2 as well) and am running it in admin mode. I have .net installed as well. Is there anything else that might be missing in order to run the toolset? The game works amazingly well, but the toolset crashes while launching.

Check that your anti-virus software isn't blocking your toolset. I had the same issue and the problem turned out to be BitDefender. I had to whitelist the app.

Nothing blocking it, so that's not the issue sadly. Do I need to install .net 3.5 or is it okay to use the "Windows Features" thing instead? I tried installing it but the installer does not work.

If you have a Windows 10 fresh install (new computer for instance), reinstall DirectX 9.0c from your CDs or Microsoft site.

Check also that .Net 3.5 is activated : parameters / configuration panel / programs / activate de-activate Windows features (approximative translation, my system is in French).

Yup, all of those things have been done. I managed to get the .net 3.5 installer to install by unchecking those boxes, they are checked again but no difference. It complained about SHIM once, but now it just crashes the same as before.

Hm, could it be an authorization issue? As for me I didn't install NWN2 and the toolset on C:\Program Files (X86) but on another drive.

Nada on that suggestion too. I even have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 installed, I think the toolset requires that too? Thanks for the input guys, if you have any other ideas to try, let me know. I'm still stuck on this myself.

I think it uses VC++ 2008.

Look in C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Temp\NWN2\LOGS. Maybe you find an error log.

I'll check on the status of my 2008 installation then, I'm not sure if I tried a manual install on that. Sadly no logs other than when I first tried to launch NWN2 prior to installed DX9.

Make sure you do not have  the  Neverwinter Nights2  install file  inside of the Programs File,  it should be seperate outside the programs file on your main drive

Also make sure you have the DPI setting low enough on the Toolset  since it cannot accommadate some of todays  high graphic settings

I have tried those things as well, thanks for the suggestions. I wonder what could be causing this...!

iirc there was a configuration file for the toolset that could get messed up and prevent the toolset from launching.

I haven't tried the drag-and-drop approach for launching the toolset from the command tool, but perhaps that would emit some additional feedback?

Backup in case then clean the C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\NWN2 Toolset directory. The toolset should restart with all default options. All non standard plugins will be desinstalled,  if one of them is the culprit you may find which resinstalling them one by one.

Still nothing, sadly. I'll keep everyone updated on if I ever figure out the issue.

I take it that you never got this to work on Windows 10? That's too bad. I have the same issue.
